YEAH! back on the thread. I think all fans involved would tell you that the result was a surprise, but I'll take it. (Not the outcome, just the score;) )Sorry! As the stats would show, the LC offense had some success with the passing game. The QB, though undersized, did a nice job. Some of his passes just kind of hung up there but the receivers did a nice job positioning themselves to make the catch. They used their size advantage nicely. I was impressed with the young tight end. Nice size for a soph? I think. Ran some nice underneath routes and made the catches. As for your O and D-lines, well, I think they were just overmatched on both sides of the ball. As 36 yards rushing would tell you, the X D-line pretty well dominated. They also had several sacks. This X D-line pursues extremely well for this early in the season. They are quicker than last year as well. Your O-line didn't fare so well either. The X line did a nice job of creating a gap for Vic and on that night that is all he needed. LexCath is definitely better than the score indicates. With time I think they will be in the hunt come playoff time.

I think Bardstown wins another one. But as stated, you never know in a rivalry. I don't think many picked Nelson Co to beat Bullit East either! Coach Bruner is going to bring that program back, and quicker than people think. So Bardstown better enjoy their recent domination, that's going to end. But for this one: Bardstown 21 Nelson Co. 13

I don't know if he is hurt. Don't believe so. But think about it, do you really expect a soph. to play both ways in his second varsity game? There are about 100 Sr and Jr players in front of him. They are trying to get all the kids in the game when the opportunity arises. He did great as a frosh, now he will have to watch and learn from the sidelines and be happy with the reps he gets. It is an honor to get a varsity jersey at St X as a sophomore. He can learn a great deal just being part of that on Friday nights. Any game time is a bonus. He has a bright future...be patient.

Last week after the BG game Vic 'apologized' to some of us and told us to watch this week. That he would make up for it and put on a show. Did he ever!! Although the O-line played sooo much better than last week, many(most) of Vics yards came after contact -- Some amazing runs. Truely fun to watch. As stated by someone in another thread it was stated that X would control the line of scrimmage and win the game. This happened on both sides of the ball. The defense did not get much credit pre-season but they are showing the ability to stuff the run quite well. 20 yards given up before the heavy substitutions. Not bad. This game did show that the X secondary still needs some work but in all fairness, this is the first game they have had many balls thrown at them. now the coaches and players know what needs to be worked on. Overall, a very solid game for the Tigers.

When I heard Trinity was picked by SI I came to the board knowing Rocks 4 Ever would have started a thread on the topic. Come on 4 Ever, tell the truth, you wear a Trinity cheer leading outfit to bed every night don't you? :laugh:

I don't think this will be a blowout either. I expect a really good game tonight. If your O-line isn't able to step up and dominate tonight, I believe X has the defense to control the game and get the win. I don't know a lot about your defense so, I too, will be interseted in what they do against our offense. BG always has one of the best defenses in the state and if it weren't for the X miscues the score last week would have been much different. Even BG's score was a result of Zoeller's fumble at the 10. One possible key could be that the X secondary was tested very little during the pre-season and the BG game. I'm sure the Knights will put the ball up and see what the DB's can do.Should be a battle. As for Schickel, he was a huge part of the defense last year. He was the 'QB' of the defense and tough to replace. He is playing at Georetown (along with Chris Dornbrook - MLB) as I understand. Should do well there.

Your right, they have a QB AND RB, X shouldn't even show up tonight. What was I thinking! Granted, they probably will get more than that but X will control the line of scrimmage and win the ballgame

X O-line goes something like (L-R) 335,240,285,235,240. Not as big as last year but more athletic, more aggressive. The D-line (L-R) 235,255,220,245. BG got 9 yards rushing first half and 60 for the game with their only run for 10yards or more on a botched punt. If LexCaths O-line is new I think your wrong...definite advantage X. The O-line made some mistakes last week. I guarantee they had a tough week of practice and will come out to prove themselves. If you think they only have "3 good players as I see it" then you haven't seen them play. Enjoy the ride down to Manual Stadium because it's going to be a long ride home.:ylsuper:

Our kicker this year has not shown the consistency to put the ball in the endzone on every kickoff. In the BG game it was maybe 50% of the time, although kick coverage looked pretty good. I don't blame you for looking for an edge:lol: See you Friday night!

Winner of this game is determined not by the speed but by who wins in the trenches. I don't think Lex Cath matches up on either side of the line. Tigers win!:thumb:

Agree totally with that statement...winning ugly. I'm with you on the prospects for the team with a little time. High # of penalties and fumbles will most definitely be addressed in practice this week. Expect a BIG improvement here, and as a result, a much more efficient attack next week. I think we'll see a big game out of Vic, he really wants to lead the team this year. With the receivers we have, I agree with the use of the passing game. I think it would keep other teams from keying on Vic and Duece too heavily. Some of the quickest receivers X has had in some time. As for the defense: contrary to what Coach Glaser said in the C_J preview, I had heard we might be pleasantly surprised with the quality of this years defense. Watching Saturday night got me excited to see just how good this unit can be. The line appears bigger and pursuit to the ball was really good. Nice quickness for their size. It will be interesting to see who can run on them. Linebackers moved to the ball well. Good gang tackling. Hard to tell about the secondary due to the game not really getting past the line of scrimmage most of the night. I think the secondary will get their test this week with Lex Cath. Need to shore up the special teams. Miscues last week helped keep the game close. Usually a strength and I'm sure they will be as the season progesses. For all the inexperience, I'll take 'winning ugly' for the first game. Expect a much 'cleaner' game out of the Tigers this week.

St X killed themselves last week with uncharacteristic # of penalties and fumbles. Thus, the score was closer than should have been. I suspect extra focus on these issues and the offense will look a great deal more efficient and will put more points on the board. With the receivers X has I think it is possible we will see the Tigers throw a little more this year. This would help keep teams from keying on Vic too much. Look for Vic to 'put on a show' as he told some people after last weeks game. He WILL have a BIG game. Even though BG was missing some key players which hurt their offensive game, the X defense showed signs of being very tough against the run. They showed good quickness and great pursuit of the ball and the usual gang tackling. The D-line is big and strong. I think this week, the secondary will actually feel like they are part of the game as LexCath will definitely put the ball in the air. Real change of pace for the D to face. Tigers 31 - 14

Does anyone in Purple Nation have an update on your injury situation? If Steelman is out for the X game, who will they put at QB? Do you have someone able to step in and run the veer effectively? IS your center still going to be out for the game as well? I assume, otherwise, your offense is intact. If you have seen any of your scrimmages, how does the defense look. I know they were exceptionally strong last year. How would you rate the D for the upcoming season? Should be a great test for both teams. Looking forward to tailgating without the storms this year! As for X, Ott(OL) has a bad ankle sprain and is most likely out for the BG game. Bisig hurt ankle in Scott Co scimmage, didn't ply FRiday but should be good to go for the game Saturday. Duece has cast off and doing limited practice, may play. DJ Hall should be fine. Hopefully, they get healthy for the long haul. St X - 17 BG - 7

In my time here on the board I have enjoyed reading what OX has to say. Seems to really be up on things and generally 'on point' with what input he provides. Not to change the subject but, do you have an injury update for next weeks game?? How's your QB and center?? As for X, a few kids banged up from 2-a-days and the first scrimmage but right now looks like only starting O-guard Ott may miss the BG game. Duece got his cast off but not sure if he will be ready to go next week.

I think you are on the right path and definitely making progress. It's hard to compare regular season games and scrimmages but thinking back to 2004 season regular season and state game compared to Friday's scrimmage - I can tell a difference. The athletic ability has certainly increased, The size of your O-line and D-line have improved. It appreared to me the biggest change was the effort on the field. In both games in 2004 I felt the belief they could play with us did not exist. Friday night, I think they felt they should be on the field. That in itself is huge. The team has to believe they are winners each and every day. Hope you have a great season!

The Rocks will probably have any easy game of it since Scott Co will still not have recovered from playing the Tigers:lol: They have a decent team. It was hard to guage since X only ran about 2 running plays and 2 passing plays as the BG coaches were there. We were also looking to eval the two new QB's as well, so pretty basic. Scott has some good athletes, decent size on the line but were fairly one diminsional on offense. With Petrino in place I'm sure you'all will open up a little more than the Tigers did. Probably similar result when the night is done.

I believe this is his third year. Has a long coaching history at different levels, came to X from St. Margaret Mary. Wade probably is the better pure passer, Zoeller maybe the better overall athlete. I think it will be a good battle for the starting spot.

Heard yesterday that the next scrimmage will be Oldham, not N Hardin. Assume it will also be away due to field. Could not find out when. Will update if I can find out.

You are correct in what you hear. I think Wade has surprised some people in buckling down and putting himself in the mix. He's working hard and it's paying off. Over the course of the game, though, I think Zoeller made more of the type plays that a X QB needs to make. He is a stronger runner and his running ability may put him a step ahead over time. I foresee a possible scenario similar to 2004 with Leonhardt and Curley, with the final decision coming after a couple of games. As for the game itself, as it was mentioned earlier, was a very basic offense so hard to say but one thing quite evident was the O-line got very little push off the line. One projected starter (Ott) sat out but should be fine for opener. I'm sure this will be a point of emphasis this week. Defensively, a lot of rotation of players as coaches finalize their new 11. D-line appears to have more size than last year with good athletes. X line pretty well controlled the interior line of scrimmage, some plays got yardage on the outside. One LB hurt (Bisig) with sprain should be good to go for opener. A number of players getting looks in secondary. Typical start, early look for X.
