IMO, you should be careful of a couple of things. With your other involvements, a post like this probably represents the ultimate conflict of interest. Secondly, a case dismissed because it moots itself when procedural moves delay it over and over is hardly a won case (maybe I have some misinformation about this particular case, but past Open Records Requests showed that was the result). I have followed these cases for years and the member schools continually want the rules enforced on 279 schools. Trouble is, there are 280 members. If the kid you represented were at BHS or Bethlehem, I am betting Nelson would have wanted it enforced. If this current kid was at East Ridge or Shelby Valley and an injunction issued, then Pike Central would be raising Cain. The schools make the rules, and have every bit of authority to change them.

The rules don't allow for it simply to be a "no contest" anyway, so why not play?

WHile I see your point, we probably just won't agree. I follow high schools sports pretty closely as you do. The baseball folks don't seem to care what semi-state they win, as long as they win. The object is the fifth week in football, that's the primary goal. Whatever you get along the way is just gravy, in one person's opinion. So no matter when you play these other teams, you are going to have to play them and beat them to get to Papa Johns. I still believe part of the problem is that the schools wanted and embraced change but they maybe didn't tell the general public about it. As I look at what was done, its basically a two year experiment that may be further refined as time goes on.

There are defined regions. They just aren't composed of the same two districts each year. Just like the semi-state baseball from what I can read. This year for example in class A, Region 1 is districts 1 and 2. Region 3 is districts 3 and 4, etc. That rotates each year so that there are always regions, but they don't always encompass the same teams. Maybe that's the problem in your eyes? Are you saying that the same districts should always compose the same regions and that's your issue?

It isn't little publicized. The high school coaches have known this change was coming for more than a year and have been preparing for it since it was first discussed in 2004.

High school sports should be for high school kids, period. If this rule works like it should as I read it, maybe those kids won't be burned out, and high schoolers will participate without fear of beingdefeated by 6th graders.

By the way, are you talking about their Board that made the decision, their committee that pushed for changes (which is made up of their coaches), or just who did a "poor" job? Or did the result just not meet your specific approval.

I don't think the current coaches seem to agree with you. Most are saying in the papers I read and comments I make that they understand the need to curtail travel and right now, the way the basketball coaches feel that "football is getting everything they want", the football folks are wise to just lay low I think. Frankly, change is what people don't like, IMO of course. And we can see in December which one of us was right, but I think it is even less predictable than in the past. You could really in most years, guess who the final eight in each class were going to be, and that led to the better teams continuing to get better. You will see some teams in round three and four who have never been there before, and just like the changes in the college NCAA basketball tournament, this will lead to new teams success. But time will tell.

From what I read, winners of second round games will now be district champs. Winners of third round games will be region champs. Winners of fourth round games will be semi-state champs. Winners of fifth round will be State Champions. And from the emails we got from the stet office, those 3 hour first (and second) round trips were a large part of the discussion.

That's a bunch of garbage. I see that you are from Corbin, so I can only presume Corbin HS is who you support. Why did they not participate in the feedback process with the KHSAA? Look on KHSAA web site and you will see that Corbin didn't even share their opinion. They didn't even take the time to respond. They are the ones who didn't care enough to share concerns or that school was satisfied with the results. Those who didn't participate in the process should just shut the heck up. As should their fans, unless of course, those comments are directed to the school administration who failed to correspond with KHSAA. The ones that care about HS football participated in the process, became engaged in the discussion, and now move on to getting involved with scheduling.

To make it even clearer, the holder can come up off the knee only to recover or catch an errant snap. For example, the ball skips back there or is snapped high. In that case and that case only, he can rise to recover or catch but must immediately go back to his knee to still be a holder. If he does anything else or comes off his knee for any other reason, then when he goes back down, the play is over. That's how it was explained to me and makes sense

Sorry guys. You are forgetting a pretty fair player from Louisville Flaget and Kentucky's only Heisman Trophy winner (I think). A guy named Paul Hornung. You did say "ever" not just since 1965 or something like that.

You probably would also note that the other teams denied moving up would have left a district with less than four teams.

You interpretation is clearly incorrect, and with your moniker, you are giving yourself credibility when in fact, you might be wrong. I would strongly suggest you contact the state office who can clear up your misinterpretation. Half the battle is being able to read a rule book. The other half is being able to correctly apply it. Trust me, you are batting 50% on this one and may want to seek a state interpretation.

Both of you may be potentially a little off base. Until the receiver is occupies the same yard line as the defender, he is ALWAYS a potential blocker by all of the published HS interps. It is not a foul to "jam" them, not by rule or intent unless the receiver has occupied the same yard line (or beyond of course). The defender doesn't have to guess what the receiver is doing, nor vice-versa (by rule).

A lot of coaches are mentioning in the media that the season starts awfully earlier here. I actually heard that Kentucky starts the second earliest of anyone in the country, only behind Alaska. So one option with the new realignment might be to rearrange the final games. I just had some random thoughts and options and wanted fellow BGP'ers to weigh in on the subject. One option would be to tell KHSAA that it could hold its finals on the second weekend in December. I think a recent survey of states showed that several (including several that are north of Kentucky including Pennsylvania which sometimes has to juggle its game times due to Pittsburg Steeler obligations) play their finals a week or two after KY. And if you check historical weather, their isn't much difference and frankly, you are on an all weather surface anyway. If you go a weekend later, you can 1) avoid any conflicts with U of L games, 2) only effect a handful of basketball schools and their games and they have a long enough season to catch up with scheduling, 3) start at least one week later. With that said, could you weigh in on a couple of options, to see if we agree? Just trying to start some chatter to get everyone first up about high school football. The four options would be to play two games each day no matter how many days, or play 1/2 one day and 1/2 the other. From what I have read, it would be avoiding U of L if we play the first weekend (in other words, their schedule would dictate the high school schedule), and no conflicts on the second day.

You have never displayed or written in a paranoid ("they are out to get us or there must be some conspiracy") manner in all your years. It doesn't become you. Use the same 10 schools in those districts and come up with a better plan (and quit using Harlan Central, at this point, they don't apply)

1) The KHSAA cannot help where schools are built. Surely anyone could note North Laurel's proximity to Clay County compared to South. 2) How about Kenton County in basketball? Three schools, three (not districts) regions. If everyone wants districts to always be the same size, something has to give I think.
