UK Great Mike Casey on BCG .."He's in Over His Head"
MountainThunder replied to Hasbeen's topic in College Basketball
NFL is a bad comparison. Free agency allows them to 'buy' better players, experienced players in the offseason. But normally, the biggest positive change on many teams from one year to the next in the NFL is a new coach. :sssh: But I don't want that to happen. I just want to see improvement in the program, and right now, it isn't there. In basketball, 1 or 2 players can make a HUGE difference in a program. Ask Pitino the difference that Mashburn made on the UK program. It was gianormus! If both Patterson and Meeks stay (and I hope they do), with all that is coming next year, we should see a better team on the floor. If we don't I am afraid that these types of threads could be much worse. I agree that this should be a Tubby vs BCG thread. I want BCG to succeed, I really do. If he succeeds, UK wins and as a big blue fan, I am happy! I just don't understand some of the things he does. -

I am glad you are finding humor in it. Everyone I talk with who is associated with the program believes that the pressure is getting to him. I hope you are right and that next year shows marked improvement. They should with everyone back plus Orton, Pilgrim, etc coming on board. You can rebuild MUCH faster in basketball than any other sport. Do you disagree with thatl? Does that tickle your funny bone as well? -
Todd Harris (coach) 2006, he went 2-8. Todd Harris (coach) 2007, he went 3-7. Clay Dalton (coach) 2008, he went 2-8. They did not have a home field until the end of the 2008 season. Clay was a great guy, but didn't know a great deal about football. They need a real football guy to build the program.

To me, there is no probably about it, ... the SEC is down big time. A lot of young talent, but just not very good this year. I agree that BCG should have another year or two, .. but in basketball you can rebuild MUCH faster than almost any other sport. -
They have a tremendous freshman class coming in this fall, ... best I have seen at SL in several years. But it will be a few years before those kids contribute. Whomever gets the job has some solid young talent coming.

So the SEC is just as good now as it was then? -

Very true. The SEC will be lucky to get 4 teams in the dance this year. During Tubby's time UF won back to back NCAA titles and they are struggling to even make the tourney this year. UK's schedule is also MUCH weaker this season than we have seen in many years. -

Every ex-player I have talked to said that BCG does want them around the program and they are not made to feel welcome by the current staff. Most stated that Billy Clyde isn't much on UK's tradition and wants to build his own. With that being said, I don't see Carter starting.

I agree. They need someone who will help build the feeder program which actually started after they started the high school program. I haven't heard any names, but this could be an excellent job for an assistant coach like Roark from North to cut his teeth on. He has a lot of energy and enthusiasm and could be a very good head coach at a building program like this. I haven't heard any names yet, but know a member of the school board and will see what I can find out.

Tubby had much more success AND when the conference was probably at it's peak the past 10 years. No conference has had 40% of their members get in nearly every season as the SEC has. This year that streak is over. But while I want BCG to succeed, ... he has 2 potential all american caliber players in Meeks and Patterson and IMHO, they should have been much better this season. I still think BCG deserves more time. It took about 7-8 years for the pressure to get to Tubby. It seems to have gotten to BCG much sooner. I hope they finish strong as I still maintain, if they win out and have a decent run in the SEC tourney, they can still get into the dance. -
They completed Jackson County's football field towards the end of last season.

I am pretty sure it will be a hire from outside at South Laurel.

South Laurel 40 North Laurel 35

North led the entire game until there was 2:20 remaining in the game. North got off to a great start, but unable to finish down the stretch. Great effort on the part of both teams. South put together a terrific comeback especially after not hitting 1 field goal in the first quarter. They did it with pressure defense. 2 years in a row these teams met in the first round of the region. Good luck to the Lady Cards the rest of the way! -
I was told that Coach Chappell was speaking to his players today and would be taking the job at Campbellsville High School.

Nickelback concert at Rupp in February '09
MountainThunder replied to ScarHeel's topic in BGP Break Room
My sister went. She didn't like Seether (mostly due to an abundance of foul language in their lyrics), they loved Saving Abel and Nickleback. She and her husband both said it was a great show. -
Not without an adminstration job (assis princ or princ) job for his wife. Too much of a pay cut if they lose her salary. And right now, there are no openings for those positions in Laurel County to my knowledge. Also, can anyone confirm that Chappell has resigned his position at South Laurel?

They win out and make a decent SEC tourney run and get in as a #10 or #11 seed.

I am sure that Mama Larkey will just be happy when the game is over! -

I listened to the final quarter (Dave and Dave are excellent). It was a GREAT game, right down to the wire. -
UK needs to win 2 of the last 3. I think they pull this one out. Call me an idiot, but I really think they do. Big game from Galloway!
-
The bottom line is that SC wanted the game WAY more than UK last night and played 10 times as agressive on both ends of the floor. 1. I don't want Liggins shooting the ball that much 2. Get the ball to Meeks (remember him) 3. Miller gets 2 shots? 4. Oh where art thou Perry Stevenson?

Not joking about the seperation between the 2 Laurel teams and the rest of the region. Not nearly as wide as it was, but still there is a big difference. The other 13th region teams need to step outside the area and play some much tougher competition to improve their programs. Harlan did play Lex Cath last year, and lost 21-7, but their schedule for 2009 will probably have them with a very good record, but unprepared for the postseason. The Laurel County teams are 2 of the winningest programs in the state (NL #1 in wins wit 455, SL #7 in wins with 381). Last year Corbin had a very good season and pulled a major upset when the beat SL earlier in the season, but in the postseason, they were beaten soundly by SL in the district and NL in the region. Middlesboro had Jimison on the hill, who could keep them in most games. After that, the region was pretty weak. South outscored their opponents in the regional tournament 25-1 and lost to North 7-0 in the title game. NL outscored their opponents 25-1. The only team in the state tournament to score on NL last year was state champion Greenwood. There is still a big gap between the 2 Laurels and the rest of the region.
