  1. I liked Jorge, from Puerto Rico. Great pipes.
  2. I am not wanting to offend anyone, but South has historically had a much better basketball program than North. They also had have much more stability in their coaches. Steve Wright has been at South Laurel since it was originally Laurel County High school and has given it a great deal of stability. North has had numerous coaches in that same time frame (actually 3 different head coaches in just the past 5-6years). Sometimes it works the other way, but not very often. There is a young man who actually played a little bit at South early this season, transferred to North during the season, and was ruled eligible by the KHSAA. I do not know the circumstances of how/why, but the KHSAA believed it was a legitimate change of address and he has actually played in a limited capacity for both teams this season. Very strange.
  3. Something must have really drawn him to the Campbellsville job. South's defense has never seemed to get untracked at SL, even before Chappell got there. They had some games over the past several years where they played well, but never have found that consistency. I think if they give Welch the DC a few more seasons, he can turn the defense around.
  4. I like Jason and wish him well. :thumb:
  5. I am pretty sure he was talking about Miller. After the game he had against North a few weeks ago, I am sure the Jags know they have to slow him down.
  6. The difference is that Canseco admitted his wrong doing as well as pointing out everyone else he thought/knew were also guilty. We are still dealing with a Washington that has not changed in that it is all about partisan politics on both sides.
  7. I would not want them to weaken the OOC schedule.
  8. Personally, I like Conway as a coach. To be honest, he hasn't had a great deal of talent (except Seidel) in his tenure. Good kids, but not a lot of really skilled basketball players. They turn over middle school coaches far too often, and hasn't had a great deal of support in getting the AAU program going. I think he has done pretty good with the talent he has. Also, it is hard to build when many of the best players in your district, even if they started playing at North Middle end up at playing at South. There are 2 major contributors for South who started their careers at North middle and found their way across town. Both could have been an enormous help to NL right now. One even played varsity as an 8th grader when he was at North. That being said, I think this will be a very close game. I look for Seidel and Miller to play big. The difference will be their supporting casts. North needs a big game from Couch and Shears for North to pull it off. I will have to be a Laurel County homer and pick North in the upset. If they play the way they did for most of the game against Henry Clay and Marshall County in the hoopfest, I think they pull it off. But I agree, it would be an upset. NL 73 KC 72
  9. True, but if you have kids on the floor who aren't doing what you want at this point of the season, ... then I have to question why are they on the floor?
  10. I agree that sending him packing now would be a mistake. I may not understand or agree with BCG, but he is the coach and I really do expect to see them turn the corner next season. If the other issues that have haunted BCG aren't a factor any longer, he will be back next year and I hope that is accurate. Barnhardt has been pretty good at sticking with his picks and think he will do the same here.
  11.:thumb: In all fairness, Pitino did a pretty good job his first go round with the Knicks, but he also inherited Patrick Ewing.
  12. Do you mean Cody Miller? He lit North up a few weeks ago for 33 points and 17 rebounds.
  13. I would be surprised (not shocked, but surprised) to see anyone but Corbin and SL in the title game.
  14. I am not a huge BCG fan, but I think that is a little overboard. We don't have anyone near a Jordan or Bird on this team. But then again, what college team does?
  15. :isurrender: I would take his experience, win or lose, over anyone on this board every day of the week and twice on Sunday! I am willing to bet he understands the game a little bit better than you are giving him credit for. BTW, he had a better winning percentage in the NBA than Pitino.
  16. There is no comparison to what Brooks stepped into and what Gillispie stepped into. None. UK football had NEVER been consistently competitive (since Bryant without cheating), ... lowered scholarships, NO recruiting under Morris, sanctions, restrictions, in the best football conference in the country, etc. BCG took over a good team (not great) at UK with some decent talent (not great), no sanctions, with a 100+ year history of winning in a time when the conference is not very strong. Like I said, no comparison. I do agree that we need to give BCG more time, but I think if the SEC was what it was 2-3 seasons ago, many would be calling for his head as they would not even be on the bubble right now. I think this actually works in his favor as he will get another year or so to right the ship. As far as Mike Casey, he is entitled to his opinion like everyone else, and probably has a little more weight to it than any of us. I think he is probably tainted a little bit as he and many of the ex-players have not fully come on board with BCG as they did with Pitino and Tubby. BEST CASE (and what I am sure all UK fans should be pulling for): UK wins the next 2 games and has a good SEC tourney run to get into the dance. Pulls an upset or two in the dance, and the mood on this forum will be MUCH improved. :thumb:
  17. I don't think it would take a minor miracle, just better defense for the Jags. Last time, Miller had 33 points and 17 rebounds. They MUST slow him down and get Seidel some help offensively. I think KC pulls it out, but I wouldn't count out NL just yet.
  18. He did leave Berea for this job. I think after 2 years and no home field to play on, he just moved on. He did a good job and was not fired. I think he didn't see the support the first few years that he thought he would need to build a solid program. As far as talent, they athletic talent is there. However, they were already playing HS football before they ever started a middle school team. I think a young hungry coach can build this program up. The community support is okay considering that until 2006, they had never had football at any level in Jackson County. It is getting better. They need little league and middle school programs to develop the pipeline to the high school. I talked to a few officials who did some of their games and they said that the coaches and players were classy and gave great effort. If they can develop the pipeline, I believe they could have a solid program in the future.
  19. That may be true, but the ex players know how they have been treated and I haven't found one yet who is really pleased with BCG. The ones I spoke with have stated that every coach from Joe B Hall, Eddie Sutton, Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith treated the former players like they were welcome. Those players are the ones that the tradition is built upon. As far as starting the senior(s), I am all for it. But if Billy Clyde decides not to start him, it is his team and his choice. I don't think it would hurt anything to give Carter the start. My guess is starting or off the bench, being the lone senior, he could get a rousing ovation from the UK faithful.
  20. I believe that Coach Chappell talked to his players yesterday.
  21. Were you not around for the end of the Sutton era? THAT was ugly! Thank God for Pitino, Mashburn and the Unforgettables.
