Though it loses a solid QB and a great back, Central will be loaded this year. Grim, Johnson, Welch, and a bunch of other good backs will return, and the passing game will be much improved. Almost ever one returns on defense. Barring injuries, this Central team should be the best ever.

Well said. I assume you would prefer one class in football, for the same reasons you so pasionately oppose classes in football, academics, or any other form of competition. I respect that, but have no problem whatsoever giving more kids more opportunities. Football is a game. Playing and surviving a season is rewarding for most kids. Simply playing the game, and sacrificing, is what molds these kids; not running into a brick wall year after year after year. For most schools, just having a chance to play in a state championship is something they'll never experience. IMO, more classes would boost interest, fan support, and revenue. The larger, traditional powerhouses would still have overall bragging rights, just as they do in the present class system. Six classes is fine with me. It would water down nothing.

They were only biased for Hazard, Perry Central and Leslie this year. All hometown stations are. That was OK, but unnerving at times. I don't have that concern as much for this game, although if Sheldon Clark wins that'll screw up their show. The field goal was real news, so I didn't have a problem with it. Kind of like instant replay...just not instant.

Well, I disagree with transferring when you're school's program is down, or going through hard times (with rare exception). Kids generally don't decide to transfer and leave their friends. Parents usually decide for them, for all the wrong reasons, and that's what stinks. But, that's just my opinion.

You're exactly right Dino. He's an excellent coach, and as long as he coaches football he will be dominate, or at least be very competitive, with the other 9 opponents on Paintsville's typical schedule. Central has turned the corner, and it will be lopsided for many years to come. The mass exodus of good players has ended, and the only players who will leave now are the weak ones (as evidenced by the past year...the whiners and troublemakers...good riddins). Paintsville is having a big kick out of their playoff success, as they should, but when they turn it this way and demean our program, or even "tongue in cheek" suggest that they are better than Central, or their coach is better, they invite a hard reality check. Get back, little sister.

Back in them days, women played line, and they needed little paddin'. Quarterback was a competetive pooooosition. Van Lear pummeled the Wayland Wasps, then rode Bankmule stayle up Ashland, and inaugurated Putnam stadium in fine fashion. Wynona's great grandmother played center, and Ashland had a chance to to win the Van Lear 7 year line, and 1 second on the timepiece. The kick sunk up into Granny's buttcheek, and Van Lear was on their way to lex-n-ton. While thar', they turned them mules loose, and Keeneland was born. At ole Stoll field, the matter was settled. I hope so, and after that, I hope they play Central. We need more rivalries with our good teams. Win or lose, it only makes both teams stronger. Central had to schedule 2 WV teams and travel all the way to Bryan Station, because no local non-district opponents would play us. None in Letcher, Pike, Floyd, Perry, etc. Where's a brother to get a little head-knockin love??? P.S., I know this is an Ashland thread, but all my buddies have left to remind our minor league program that they have a chance. I'd rather cry in my beer here in the majors.

I've heard this comment on here before. Who in the world questioned him? I live here, and know that almost everyone was excited about BMR as head coach.

I did Blumedad, but I'm a slow, white hillbilly and it took awhile to react (lol). He may have a point though. I guess its 'cause one leg is shorter than the other.

I assume the quality win was against Lynn Camp? I see no other quality wins on their schedule. BMR inherited the best Paintsville team in 20 years, so I think next year will be a better indicator of his coaching ability. David LeMaster would have won 9 or 10 with this team and schedule too. In fact, he took basically the same kids last year and gave Central a better game than BMR did this year.

That's what I did earlier, and after further reflection, I'm doin' a 180. Somerset should win easily.

No, that wasn't my thread. That thread did get me wondering why none of those great backs excelled beyond HS.

I really don't have an answer for who the top backs were, other than statistics (which to me, are not a real good indicator for a number of reasons). The real question I have is, why have none of them stood out anywhere? One would think that, just based on the odds, some mom and pop would raise a D1 starter.

I'll buy that. I know West went to Marshall and apparently decided not to play. It just seems like someone, over the years, should and would have made a statement.

He had a bit of an angle, and Blume stepped out of bounds, but there was a kid from Mason who chased him from behind for 50 or 60 yards and did bring him down just short of the goal line.

(Note: Just curious after the thread regarding best East Ky. backs over the last 20 years). We've had some great backs from East Kentucky over the years, but IMO, high school glory is all they ever achieve, and occasionally, an education. Have any of these players ever starred for a major D1 program? Any D1 program, or any other program? The closest I can think of is Beach, and he plays for a weak D1 program, and isn't what I'd call a "star" on the team. No agenda here; just wondering what theories people have. Any thoughts on why we can't have an occasional running back go on and do something special somewhere?
