X 42 PRP 20. I watched PRP this past weekend, and they have good speed. Trinity's offense flummoxed the PRP defense, but then it has bedeviled many teams.

RockPride, a lot of the improvement you witnessed should be attributed to the doctor. X had about seven starters injured or out the first game. Your analysis is correct, though, that the team you saw opening night "would've been throttled by Trinity". Any chance the docs for these boys were Trinity grads?

I saw that team play, and although I was at a tender age, even then I realized that meteors that bright don't flash by often. They were.

Not to rekindle the discussion that you and I and other St. X and Trinity supporters had on a different thread, and speaking for myself and not necessarily others, I acknowledge that KHSAA rules and regulations declare Trinity the winner of the game. It would be my assumption that the site (I concur with you that it is awesome and accurate and I also appreciate the time and effort that went into creating it) would declare Trinity the winner of the game, pursuant to the KHSAA rules and regulations. That site was not a party to the agreement made between the representatives of the two schools. The point I made in the earlier post, and reiterate here, is that representatives of the two schools looked one another in the eye and shook on an agreement that the game would be considered a "no contest". Therefore, if those representatives and those schools are true to their word, between those two schools and their representatives, the game is a "no contest." You really did not need to be "somewhat devious" to elicit that admission from many of us. It has been stated on this board before. Pardon me for deviating from the topic of the thread, but I did want to respond to your statement so there is no misunderstanding, although I confess that sometimes I wonder if the shoe were on the other foot the X partisans would be adopting Trinity's current position, and the Trinity partisans would be adopting X's current position.

Over the years I have found a few minor errors, mostly occurring in the 60's and 70's. When notified, Mr. Vessel has corrected the mistakes. It is a labor of love for which I suspect Mr. Vessel has put in countless hours. For example, he and I have corresponded regarding Lit ratings, and I am aware of some of his research. From my own modest research on Lit ratings I can extrapolate that he has spent perhaps hundreds of unpaid hours in the library pouring over microfiche.

Well, you are correct. I had forgotten that aspect. I traveled up to Cincinnati and watched Cincinnati X play their first game of the season, also without their star running back, but for some reason that important factor had slipped my mind. :thumb:

Well, one of their losses was out of state, so it doesn't factor in to these ratings. They lost to Ballard in overtime and dropped another close one to Eastern. Both of those teams are good teams. They keep did get beaten pretty soundly by Manual, but Manual is an excellent team. Overall, considering strength of schedule, the rating may not be that bad. They are well coached and have good athletes. Although I do not claim to be an expert on high school computer ratings, it seems as though strength of schedule is more important than overall record for purposes of these ratings.

Trinity wins over a well coached PRP at PRP. Eastern and Ballard are teams comparable to the PRP in strength. PRP has lost to both in somewhat close games. BTW, PRP plays X next week. A death wish, perhaps?

You are probably correct. However, Trinity led the top ranked high school team in America this year through part of the third quarter.

There seem to be problems with Butler's football program. Players have left throughout the season, including several this week. My understanding is that some starters, including the QB, were freshmen.

From what I understand, that has come to be the Ballard way in the last few years. Trinity is doing it the right way: ignore the boorish treatment and go out and take care of business. Good luck.

I have commented in the past that I would like to see X and T field large bands. It would add to the entire school experience. thsrocks, we should attempt to get X and T locked into a band competition. As competitive as the two schools are, very shortly they would each field a 300 person marching band. A win-win for each school.

Well stated, PepRock01. Perhaps we can move on to something else. For example, jimmyref gave an outstanding in depth game analysis. I would like to see a similar analysis provided by some on the Trinity side of the ledger that I feel are knowledgeable about football, such as CentreRocks or RockPride.

XgradROCKdad, you are reading too much into the various posts, It seems a nerve was hit, and I do not think X posters wish that on you. Nowhere, even with the best X spinning, do I see anything like "you'z guys make it sound like T petitioned the KHSAA gods for a ruling or something Tony Soprano helped with. " Also, there is no need for you to concede anything. The issue is not whether Trinity would have won had the game been played to conclusion-it wasn't. (Although had this year's game been called shortly after the outset T would have won-and we know that they did not). The issue is also not whether the game was an official Trinity victory-the KHSAA says it was. The issue, to many, is whether the institutions honor their word given one another that night.

I really felt that I did a passable job of laying out the positions in my earlier post. Review with an open mind and you should be able to understand both positions. Sometimes our biases preclude being able to see the other guy's position.

Now, TD, you are opening a new can of worms with that question. X leads the overall series; that much is beyond dispute. However, the devil is in the details. Last year's game was stopped due to lightning with Trinity leading. X and T agreed that the game would be considered a "no contest." The parties later learned that the KHSAA rules specify that Trinity won. Depending upon your opinion (and, coincidentally, that often depends on your allegiance to X or T) X leads 33-29 or 33-28. If your position is that KHSAA rules take precedence (and your allegiance is to Trinity) it is the former. If your position is that when two parties look one another in the eye, give their word and shake on it (and your allegiance is to Saint X ) it is the latter. :D:D

X has historically put in backups as quickly as prudently possible. It is in keeping with Coach Glaser's philosophy that the game is about the players, not the coaches. It would not be surprising to see 100 kids play.

I just saw the link. It appears that X is tied for 5th in the country. Like many who posted above, I do not put a lot of stock in this type of rating.

Trinity hits the comeback trail with a vengeance. Although at Ballard, against a good Bruin squad, the Rocks win going away. Make it 42-14 Trinity.

Top ranked X gets a chance to play everyone. The Bears visit the Tiger's den for the first time Thursday night, but the talent disparity is too great to upset an X team that could still be basking in last Friday's glory. St. X 41-10.

St. X vs. Butler - Who wins, by how much, and why?

This an instance upon which we disagree, my dear friend. "Truly classless" could be when a coach looses a family member in death scant hours before a state title game, and although racked with grief coaches his team in an upset loss and then a "fans" from the winning side start rumors the next day taunting about whether the loosing school is going to fire the grieving coach.. "Truly classless" could be when a coach of any school over the years runs up the score on hapless opponents by keeping the first string in long after the game is decided. This was just a little a little umbrella on the field joke, hardly rising to the "Truly classless" level evidenced in the two examples above. For the record, I did not care for the umbrella or the broom props. But there are some on this board who never miss the opportunity to make harsh personal attacks on this man. Perhaps fans at both schools should take an moment to recognize that Coach Glaser and Coach Beatty are human. They make coaching mistakes on occasion as well as mistakes in personal deportment. That said, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. X fans who know Coach Glaser, and T fans with Coach Beatty, cite innumerable examples of each man's decency with and for the kids they each coach. On some occasions, after an unexpected or difficult defeat, it is easy to have the hurt and disappointment turn to misplaced anger toward a person or an institution. We all do this. But let us not, X and T fans, mar what has thus far, during the week of a heated rivalry, been an relatively civil discourse.

Congratulations to both squads. Stating the obvious, X achieved a win under a lot of adversity, playing the second half and a portion of the first with a backup QB. T did shoot themselves in the foot all night with a variety of penalties. Both teams should meet again. Glaser and Beatty have been lambasted here for speaking what each believed to be true: Glaser that X has to rougher path to the finals (Male and a dangerous Manual), and Beatty that Louisville X did not have the best defense Trinity has faced. Several have tendered areas of improvement for Trinity. How and where can X improve for the anticipated rematch? SHAMROCK69 and I agree: Coach, leave the brooms and umbrellas home next time.
