  1. GC rolled. I don't know if GC is pretty good or Ludlow is that bad, but GC subbed early.
  2. It's not like he is commuting from Dry Ridge to Pikeville everyday. They had to move. I have never understood the khsaa's stance that you can't move for sports. You can move because the rents cheaper, because you want to live in the country, etc., but not because you want your son to play for a coach you like and admire??? Every real estate brochure I have ever seen mentions the school district. I know people that move to have their kids at a successful music school, academic school, etc., why should athletes be discriminated against. They don't make band members sit out a year.
  3. The kid has done nothing wrong. We live in a free country. Go to school where you want to go.
  4. Andy can't be the head coach if Joe is the principal. Nepotism rules.
  5. I have no idea if he is interested, but Johnny Leep from Trimble County would be a good hire. He has done a good job with Trimble, but that is a brutal district.
  6. I watch a lot of 8th and 9th region basketball. I can normally tell you the projected starters for most of the 8th region teams. I think this is a transition year for a lot of teams. I think the Oldhams will be good, but can anyone name three starters for any of the Oldhams. Collins lost a lot. Simon lost a lot. Owen and Gallatin lost a lot. Anderson lost some, but Anderson and Grant may have the most talent coming back (even without Carr), as a result, Grant's status has improved in my opinion. My preseason picks. District 29. Collins and Anderson District 30. South Oldham and North Oldham District 31. Owen and Henry District 32. Grant and Simon I think the 32nd is the only district that I would bet money that those 2 represent their district in the region tourney. Walton and Williamstown are down. Gallatin is a dark horse along with Eminence if Dixie returns. Shelby is a definite possibility. Spencer may be better but that is a brutal district for them. Little hope. Oldham could be good enough to win their district I just don't know much about them at the moment.
  7. Hicks is a capable player as well.
  8. I have heard good things about them this summer. Cummins can score, Johnson can handle. I have heard they have a big boy coming on strong. I like Collins as the leader in the 8th.
  9. No, you totally misunderstood. Morgan was/is a great player. He was a better player than Carlton and he was not selfish. I am saying a team misses its point guard more than its scorer. Gallatin needed Morgan to score and he did that well. I think Gallatin will be more balanced this year, which is harder to guard. I do not think they will be an elite team, but Gallatin has thrived over the years with balanced scoring. I think they will have more of that this year.
  10. I think Grant will be top 4 with Or without Carr. They have a nice squad.
  11. He played with Gallatin this summer. I certainly mean no disrespect to Morgan, but the injury to Carlton had a greater impact to their season(last year) than the loss of Morgan. They went 0-6 without Carlton, 1-0 without Morgan. Carlton can score, handle the ball and he makes everyone else better. I think Gallatin will be better than most expect this year.
  12. Possibly Johnson and Cummings, Cummings is a nice scorer as well.
  13. Is there any word on Carr yet? I think Grant will be solid regardless.
  14. High school basketball is intended to be teams made up of local kids. If we want to do away with all rules, then every coach can go find the best players willing to attend their school. The schools that attemp to follow the rules are penalized. I am certain I could upgrade the talent at my school with minimal effort, however, how do you look people in the eye that pay local taxes, have participated in your junior leagues, have financed or worked fundraisers, etc. I would rather lose with my talent than lose with kids from Canada.
  15. Coach Nethery has done an excellent job bringing the Warrior program back to respectability. I believe he has gained a lot of respect in the 8th region from his fellow coaches. Eminence defeated everyone in their district at least once last year. When Dixie is on they are capable of upsetting anyone. I hope Dixie remains at Eminence.
  16. I bet he is in Eminence by December.
  17. If anyone has Coach Dawns cell number, I would like to talk with him. Send me a private message. I know someone needing a team for some games.
  18. Summer ball is a time to give young kids some playing time and an opportunity to evaluate talent. Very few teams ever have their starting five there. Baseball, football, golf, vacation and jobs are often prioritized over summer basketball.
  19. Generally, we talk with the athlete together. The football coach and the basketball coach are both sitting in the room with the student. I have a kid that has gone from the end of the bench to a possible starter next year because he is going through summer workouts, summer games and summer basketball conditioning. He was too skinny to get on the field in football, he got hurt every season and it ruined both sports for him. The football coach wasn't going to cut him but he encouraged him to concentrate on basketball during the summer because he had a shot at playing time in basketball. I have done the same for several kids that are good kids to have on the basketball team, they are athletic, they hustle, but their skill development is so far behind that they will probably always be role players in basketball. We encourage them to concentrate on football in the summer. We let them know it may hurt their potential in the sport they slight, but sometimes kids need some direction. Hanging out with your friends/the social part of sports is all some kids are looking for, while other kids are hoping to play collegiately. I think coaches have a responsibility to let kids know where they stand and what they need to do to reach their goals.
  20. I would assume Jump.
  21. I agree with most of you on this thread, but not totally. My school has a great relationship between our football and basketball coaches. We do not fight over athletes. We actually plan our summer schedules so kids can do both. However, there are times where we encourage kids to prioritize their better sport. I have kids that play basketball, football, and baseball. If they are a borderline college prospect in baseball, I tell them to play baseball first in the summer and fit basketball in when they can. It would be the same with any sport. However, we occasionally have kids that can be a role player at best in one sport and a contributor in another sport, sometimes in those cases we tell a kid he might consider concentrating on one sport to insure playing time for that sport. There are occasions where the kid should pick a sport, for his own best interest, not the coaches.
  22. I am out of the loop, did Spurlock step down or get fired?
