Great game, wasn't it SMA? BC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. Scott came back with the 2 run shot by Ross to make it 2-1. Scott extended to 3-1 with one in the bottom of the 5th. Boone tied it in the top of the 6th on a 2-run double by Corey Farris. It stayed that way until the winning run scored with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th. While I personally wished for a different result it was a great HS game played under the lights on a beautiful night at Scott tonite. Brad Krohman, Kevin Williams, and Mark Reed had 2 hits for Boone. Garrett Wander went the first 4 1/3 for Boone and pitched well, as did Drew Fulton, who was the hard luck loser in this one, even though he only allowed 3 singles in 2 1/3 relief innings. Not to take anything away from Scott, who played well, but the same bug that bit Boone Friday night against Beechwood (14 LOB) struck again tonite, Boone leaving 9 on base, including the bases loaded twice and 2 LOB in the top of the 7th.

Conner took the Frosh 9th title tonite, defeating Beechwood. I think the final was 18 to 9. Was called by a friend with the result and can't remember exactly what he reported.

cooperstown.....Thank you for putting the facts out there. Just to let everyone know that all the potential schools at the moment have recruited Corey as a Catcher. Not a CF or 2nd baseman (I don't where that would ever come from). Just like everyone else I understand completely that catching is grueling on the body. Playing a posistion like center field IMO would benefit him and his future. But even with that being said Corey has all the tools to catch and he has improved leaps and bounds every season back there. As long as he is successful and doing a good job behind the plate then why change him? That is his natural position that he has played his whole life. Why mess with that? Just thought I would post my theory....Anyway as for the Elliot situation. Watched him against Boone last night and came away very impressed especially with him at the plate. His hands are so quick to the ball and he has a great approach up there. Good arm in center. The only flaw I saw was he misplayed a line drive hit a little behind him into a triple. He broke in on a line shot that kept rising over his head. He got twisted up on the play. But I am just nit picking because as all outfielders know those line shots hit right at you are the toughest to play.

An unusual game played under the lights at Champions Window Field. Both pitchers, Smith for Beechwood and Kordenbrock for the Rebels, went the distance. Both allowed about the same number of hits, 8 or 9. The difference in the game was the clutch hitting Beechwood got that eluded the Rebels, who left 14 runners on base, including the bases loaded in the 6th and 7th. Cory Farris, Mark Reed, and Kevin Williams (2b) each had 2 hits for Boone. Reed knocked in Farris for Boone's only run in the first. Cody Elliott scored his first 3 times up for Beechwood. Richie Williams also had 2 hits for Beechwood and, at least, 1 RBI. Both teams played solid D, it just came down to who was best at the plate when it mattered.

Those of you condemning the number of games in the summer, with all due respect to your opinion, don't know what you are talking about, at least in the older levels. Unlike the typical HS team which plays the same position players every game and pitches the same 1/2 dozen or so kids all spring, our summer team (17U) carries 20 players, 4 or so of which are pitchers only, 9 others also pitch, 16 players play positions, all have been chosen because they are good enough to play and will get to play at least 1/2 of the scheduled games each, again unlike most HS programs. Pitch counts and required rest are strictly monitored and followed. Players get better in the summer. They are seen by college coaches who may become interested in them for scholarship assistance as a result of this exposure. The competition is consistently better day in and day out. It is few and far between that your ace faces someone not close to him in ability. These older age groups are for kids who have a passion for the game and want to challenge themselves against the best teams around. No insanity in that.

Humphrey is a great player, but Mark Reed is playing rings around the other shortstops in the 9th this year. 2 2-run HRs today, 4 RBI, BA of .509 going into this week, and now higher after Boone's win over Campbell Co. today and 2 hits Monday against Conner. DD, no doubt that the Ryle two-some are the best middle IF combination around, but you have to tip your hat to the year Mark is having. Humphrey's defense is outstanding, but you got to give it up to Mark given he is hitting almost .130 higher, making the plays defensively, as well, and hit is 4th and 5th dingers today, both against the hard throwing Travis Hurd.

Boone County won its second in a row, beating Campbell County today in Florence. The Rebel hitting attack was led by SS Mark Reed's 2 2-run homers, Cory Farris with 2 hits, including a 2-run homer of his own, 2 RBI, and 2 SB, and Brad Krohman, whose bases loaded single in the bottom of the 6th cleared the bases when it was misplayed by the CC right fielder into an extra base for Brad. Freshman Ron Cotton and Sophomore Brian Robertson also contributed doubles, with Robertson's driving in a run. Todd Krohman also stroked a single and added a perfectly executed squeeze bunt to drive in a run. Boone led 7-2 before Campbell rallied in the 5th to tie it up, but Boone's 4 run 6 proved to be too much of a hill to climb. Garrett Wander picked up the win for Boone, going the last 2 1/3, and despite some wildness, which aided Campbell's rally, only allowed 2 hits and struck out 2. Junior starter Drew Fulton had his second straight solid starting effort, pitching into the 5th. Hurd (2 hits), who also homered for CC, went the first 3+. Hinkel took the loss in relief. Campbell's Woodruff also homered. The Rebels travel to Dixie (sure wish it was at that new field not being used yet) tomorrow to face the Colonels.

I was the one who suggested Boone's Mark Reed should get some consideration. 2 2-run HRs, 4 RBI, and an intentional walk today in Boone's win over Campbell Co. keeps him in the discussion.

The Kentucky Post and Cincinnati Enquirer name the POY for NoKy and publish it with their all NoKy teams at the end of the year. I do not believe it is limited to the 9th Region, but includes their principal circulation area, and I do not know if they select it or if it is a coaches vote. Anyone out there able to shed some light on Strike3's question?

Brad Krohman, yet again, led BCHS to the win over district rival Conner. He took a no-hitter into the 5th before allowing an IF single to Conner's David Osuna. Conner's only other hit was another IF single by Ben McQueen. Krohman went the distance and improved his record to 6-1, while dropping his season ERA to under 1.00, while striking out 10 and throwing a complete game. No ball all game was hit to a BCHS outfielder, and only 1 CHS runner advanced as far as 3rd base. Cory Farris had a single and triple, 2 RBI, and stole 2 bases, to lead a season high 7 SB game for Boone. Mark Reed (2 RBI)and Brad Krohman also had 2-hit games for Boone.

Still has Conner this coming Monday night at Freedom Field at 5 PM.

TOG, wasn't that a seeding game? And if so, what does that likely do in your district as far as tourney matchups? With Ryle beating Conner today, Boone's game with Conner on Monday determines the 3rd and 4th seeds and which team has to play the extra game with Heritage.

The fact that these are supposedly real situations bugs me tremendously. Why don't all the umpires who are out there getting paid learn the rules. I know most do, but the ones who don't know only take away from the players determining the winner of the game. I have been coaching in the SWOL for years and enjoying HS ball nearly as long, and leading up to the start of each season I regularly re-read my well worn copy of the official rules. No self patting on the back intended, but I'm not even being paid to do a JOB, they are. The IF Fly and CI calls are basic right out of Umpiring for Dummies. They happen in some game every day.

Neither team played their best, too many walks and errors.

One explanation for the difference in ABs is simple and says what coaches and opposing pitchers think of the two players, Cory averages between 1 and 2 BBs a game. The reason he and Reed switched spots in the order was to try and get Cory some more pitches to hit.

In a district seeding contest, Gilchrist for St. H and Brad Krohman faced off today in a great pitcher's duel. Both took no-hitters well into the game. Boone took a 3-1 lead through 5 before the Crusaders plated 2 runs to tie in the top of the 6th. Gilchrist went 8 for the win, allowing only 2 hits in my book. Krohman went 7 and only allowed 4 hits. Both teams were aided by defensive lapses from the other. I only have 1 earned run allowed by either team, that being by Krohman. Someone wrote the other day that it is getting to be that time of the year, especially in seeding games, where teams' better pitchers start facing off and this type of exciting nail biter becomes the norm, rather than the exception. IMO neither of the teams is going to go quietly come tournament time.

Also, since we are nominating guys, don't neglect Boone's junior SS Mark Reed, now batting in the 3 hole since he and Cory switched spots in the order (which also explains Cory's RBI total being lower than it would otherwise be, he now being Boone's lead-off hitter). He plays solid defense and has been leading the Region in hitting since the first pitch of the year (well over .500), and has proven to be a clutch RBI guy, as well. Ask the umps who have been behind the plate how well he goes opposite field when the pitch dictates it, plus 4 dingers, including the game winner earlier against NewCath to the center field side of the RF bullpen at Champions Window Field.

3 hit games by Cory Farris (2 doubles), Mark Reed (4 RBI), and Sophomore Brian Robertson (2b, 2 RBI) led the Rebel attack. Boone scored 13 runs in the first 4 innings and cruised. Junior Drew Fulton went the first 4 1/3 in his first varsity start to pick up the win. Solid relief followed by Tony Krohman and Todd Krohman to close it out. 7 Boone hitters registered hits in the first 3 innings as the bats woke up after losses in their last 3 games. Boone now moves to 11-9 with a district seeding game tomorrow against St. Henry at Boone and at Beechwood on Wednesday.

A Brewers scout told an assistant coach of a No. Ky. HS they were going to take Revere in the first or second round if he did not take the scholarship offer and was still available. If true, pretty high praise for his abilities.

Definitely agree on that..Coach Sanders is a great coach and would never put a Kids arm in jeopardy to win a baseball game!!
