Year after year, the Rebels underachieve their capabilities. They seem to have very talented players year in and year out, but they never seem to do much.

I have also heard rumors that coach Wilhoite, could be getting the boot soon.

I looked at this years and last years roster, and noticed there are quite a few un-returning Seniors this season. A couple of, which were very good players (Jeff Fitzgerald, Chris Spaulding). Why?

What's going on over at good ole Boone County?!?

I guess it would be coaching, but it could also be that the kids are slumpping or not just putting in the work during the off season.

Two players mentioned never had significant impact on team when they played. Spalding chose to run track this year and as for fitzgerald, not sure, but isn't a significant loss. So not sure what your source is...

I agree, not a HUGE loss, but Fitzgerald was a clutch player that always seemed to spark the team when he was in the lineup...he sprayed the ball all over the field and was very fast. And Spaulding was a huge threat on the base paths, and had some pop in his bat. With his speed though, I'm not surprised that he chose to run track.:p

But anyways, I'm just using them as an example. There were more seniors-to-be that didn't play also. And I do know that at the Boone games that I have been to, Wilhoite does seem way too laid back. He has no aggressiveness and his lineup always seems to puzzle me. If you think about it, what success has he had?

Lets just hope they get this season on track!

The above is obviously from someone not close to the program, nor does he have any clue what is going on with Boone.

Prove me wrong.

And by the way, in 2003 Boone county dominated the region, and went all the way to state after losing in 13 innings to a very good larue county team. Wilhoite has had success. It seems you are placing blame in areas beyond his control. Year to year, talent is subject to whatever you get. What is done with the talent is on the coach. I do believe that Boone has been talented the last couple of years, and haven't had much success. You also need to look at the teams that had success in the years they didn't(Cov Cath and Beechwood).

Once again, i don't know where you get the info about your players that decided not to come back, but easily putting it, NOT A LOSS!!!

Hitking5, your threads seen to state Boone County’s Problems this year can be attributed to two issues. The fact that so many players decide not to come out and play their senior year and the fact that their coach is too laid back, can’t put a good lineup together, and hasn’t ever had any success.

Fact #1 (returning seniors not playing)

In you 1st thread, you specifically mention Fitzgerald and Spaulding as being very good players and your surprise as to why they aren’t playing this, their senior season. In your 2nd thread, you then agree with Cardinal1826 that Fitzgerald wasn’t a huge loss to the team and you then mentioned you weren’t really surprised that Spaulding decided to run track. So I think you just answered why neither of them are playing Baseball this year. Please, include more seniors, by name, that decided not to play instead of just innuendos? Honestly, I would be surprised if we can’t come up with valid reasons why others may have gone the same route. For what it’s worth, count on at least six seniors to be in the starting lineup next year, which won’t help you senior theory.

Fact #2 (unsuccessful, laid back coach that can’t make a good lineup)

Unsuccessful – Please name all the NKY coaches that have taken their team to the state tournament within the last 5 years. It’s not that big of a list, but Coach Wilhoite will be on it.

Laid Back – You say laid back, I say professional manner.

Can’t make a good lineup – Because of your own waffling on the two players mentioned in Fact #1, I’ll only say that we all live in a great country which gives us all the right to our own opinions.

In conclusion, I’ll take a freshman that’s hungry to play the game over a senior that feels he has some right to play just because he’s a senior any day. No one has the right to play at this level. They have to earn the right and once earned, they’d better be willing to play their heart out to keep it. I’ll conclude by saying I think Coach Wilhoite runs a public school baseball program with class and pride.

I would also like to add that I personally know Mr. Fitzgerald and Mr. Spaulding and they are both fine young men and I wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors after High School.

HitKing,

You can't disprove a negative.

Since you are so confident you need to "prove" the coach may be getting the boot...

I will be waiting for your detailed response.

Just because I said they are very good players, doesn't mean I meant they were huge losses. I never said that they were huge losses, I just said that they were very good players. Fitzgerald had some varsity time his sophomore year, and would of most likely been the starting center this year and last, but I believe he had surgery on his hand. He was a loss not only this year, but last year also.

And after hearing that Spaulding chose to run track, I was not surprised. I did not know the reasoning why he quit until then.

Boone's record in 2003 was not too bright throughout the regular season. Yes, they made a playoff push. Some credit may be given to Wilhoite for that.

Can't recall the overall record, but something like 29-8. Not too bad if i say so.

I'm sorry, i believe I'm thinking of the '05 team who won districts. Was the '03 team the one who had Farris' older brother? And Brandon Killion? If so, I can see why this team would have a record like that.

Yes... Farris, Killion, Brodsky, Adtkins
