What does the Rose Hill / West Carter game have to do with a referee calling a game at Ashland? Officials in the 16th Region call games at virtually every school, unless they have been blackballed from calling games by the coach or AD of that school. I can understand it if someone doesn't care for the way a game was called. Happens every Tuesday and Friday night. As Devil58 said, just scratch him if you don't like the way he calls. Frances

I watched Rowan twice in the AIT. I look at Matt Daniel and see a typical shooter - when he's hitting, he's the best option you have on the floor. When he's cold, he can still help by distributing the ball. The old saying applies to him, just like all kids that can stroke it that well - they can shoot you into a ball game or they can shoot you out of one. The bottom line is, he's on the floor to take shots, and that is what he should do. You also have to give credit to Boyd's defense. It's tough to score when you have someone playing inside the same jersey you are wearing. Just my .02 worth ... Frances

I usually wear sunglasses when looking for Gertrude indoors. Welding goggles are recommended for anything in the direct sunlight .... As for the "falling down disease", I'll just say that if she is averaging a double double, she can play sitting down, for all I care. There isn't one coach - not one - anywhere in the state that wouldn't love to have her on their team. She (along with Terry) would start on any team in the state, and she would be a focus of the offense. Frances

Thanks for the kind words, spindoc, but I have to say that the 16th has four or five teams that could win it this year. Unlike years past, I don't say that because the region is down. I think the way our region is playing in many of these tournaments shows that we are a pretty solid region, and we will probably be represented by a sound team at Rupp this year. Question is - which team will it be? Frances

I would like to have seen him make the all tournament team, but you can't take any of the kids that did make it off the team. Aaron Cosby is a true freshman for Manual. Li'l Frances played on an all-star team with him for the first three years after we moved to Oldham County (playing in the St. Matthews league). He's a great kid, and his parents are as nice as they can be. You WILL be hearing his name over the next four years, so get used to it.

I moved from the 16th to just outside of Louisville six years ago. Without question, the game is officiated differently here. I think that over the last 30 years, the 16th Region has enjoyed extremely good officiating (speaking collectively). Officials in the Louisville area definitely do not call the game as closely as the 16th region officials do. I agree completely with TheOldGuy - call it close, or call it loose, but stay consistent throughout the course of a game. Frances

I thought the officiating was balanced, and I agree with Lionfan - they were definitely letting them play. As long as it goes both ways, it's fair. It might not be what some would like to see, but it is fair. I didn't get a chance to rub elbows with Graybeard, but I did see one of his great great great great grandsons (or, that may have been his son).
