I understand where you are coming from now. I thought it was based solely on Petrino not getting the nod. You can understand where I was coming from with that.

I don't see the hatred in that thread at all. He was simply stating that maybe the coaches looked at Mathews more than Petrino because he did not have the supporting staff around him. Which would make his numbers look that much better in some coaches eyes.

The way I read the post was that it was TheDuece's opinion of who would or should win.

Like I said earlier. If it wasn't for the Russell fans popping in here and stirring stuff up this thread wouldn't be near as interesting. There are very few if any OC fans even posting in this thread.

As for this comment let me give some stats to back up some of the hype. I think this will give Russell a bit of reason to brag. Going back 5 years Russell is 61-9 including 4 state semi final appearances and 1 state championship so far. Mercer is 43-16 with 1 state semi appearances and no state titles as of yet. That may give us a reason to brag a bit.

So some of the Mercer fans are trying to make up for it in 1 week.

Do you know for a fact that Belfry would have went out last week? NO! Remember the last time the Scotties faced a Russell team? I do. Of course there are some that seem to think that Mercer would have won had they been healthy. What's the old saying. If Ifs and buts were candy and nuts what a merry Christmas it would be.

All I can say for sure is the fact that no one has put up over 19 points on them. Sounds like a solid defense to me.

If you go back and read my posts I never said anything about convincing fashion. I merely corrected someone that was saying they didn't see winning in OT convincing fashion. In my opinion winning a state championship by 1 or 100 is convincing fashion because that means you beat the odds and are the best team in the state in your division. There will be others with different opinions of this. There will be a lot of shoulda, coulda, woulda excuses. But the final fact is that you are the state champ for the next full year. Speaking of convincing fashion. How often do teams in AA being as weak as it supposedly is get the opportunity to play in back to back state championship games? I think it was in convincing fashion that Belfry beat E-town the first trip then OC the second trip. Back to back has been unheard of in AA lately.

If I remember correctly only 1 of the three went into overtime.

My bad I thought there enrollment was a bit higher than Ashland and it was my understanding thaat Ashland was one of the largest 3A schools under the current classification.

But it wasn't a funny joke. Russell moves up to 3A with the new classification system that is put in place. So this year according to their enrollment they are a 2A school and next year based on their enrollment and the KHSAA ruling they will be a 3A school. The school number that Mercer has this year would put them in 4A and they would move up to 5A next year.

According to the KHSAA website they will be $10.00 at the gate. $7.00 in advance.

I really would like some clarification on this. I'm trying to figure out what 3A school you are talking about that is playing in 2A.

It's my understanding that regular cleats are fine. I know that Russell wore them last year. The field turf plays similar to regular grass.

The twist I see in this is that you think this is Mercer's best chance to get a ring. Because next year when they play with "the big boys" they will be an average to above average team. Not the beast that they are in AA this year.

Not saying they won't be competitive. Just saying that the playing field will be a bit more level which will get them to an average to above average team. Not the monster that they are this year.:thumb:
