  8. Didn't they get beat pretty bad by Casey County in the Southwestern Scrimmage?
  9. The tournament in open to anyone who wants to play in it. There is no qualifier to play in such as district or region. There were 20 teams in this years tournament. Clay played 5 games, 2 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. The tournament has improved each year they have had it. They run a class program at the KBA. The awards they gave away for the winning teams and all-tournament were very nice. This is a tournament that a lot more teams should take advantage of.
  10. For the 3rd time in 4 years the Clay County Middle School girs basketball team won the State Tournament at the KBA in Lexington by blowing away the competition. None of their games were even close. They were led by MVP Whitney Belle Jackson. Also making the all-tournament team were Kayla Smith and Blake Smith. Clay County defeated Sebastian Middle School from Breathitt County in the finals.
  11. Page Jackson of Clay County showed why she just may be the best player in the 13th region this year. In 20 minutes of action against Knox Central she scored 24 pts. had 5 rebounds 4 assists 4 steals as Clay County rolled over Knox Central in the SEKC panorama. 8th grader Whitney Belle Jackson had 12 pts 7 rebounds. Senior Maleah Roberts had 7 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Jessica Mosley had 10 points 5 rebounds.
  12. Clay County has 2 8th graders who are 6'1. Whitney Jackson just turned 14 in September, and Whitney Shell won't turn 14 until March of 2007. The middle school program has went undefeated 3 of the last 4 years. The future looks bright for the Lady Tigers.
  13. Clay County has a 6'1" 8th grader (Whitney Belle Jackson) who will be a huge factor on this years team in addition to the other experience players they have returning including Page Jackson, Stephanie Jackson, Gemma Gray (recovering from ACL surgery), Maleah Roberts and Sarah Burchell. Also look for contributions from 6"0" Jr. Jessica Mosley and 5'11 freshman Jordan Phillips.

  18. Clay County captures the 49th district championship by routing OBI in 5 innings. Freshman Nick Gray pitched a 5 inning no-hitter. Justin Collopy, Nathan White, Richard Jones, and Eric Harris all made the all-tournament team from Clay County.
  19. All districts in the state should play the post season the same whether it be seed or draw. The only fair way to determine that the best teams get into the region is to seed. The KHSAA should mandate that all districts have a seeded tournament. Great win Tigers!!!! Good luck against OBI.
  20. From the reports I got Baker beat Mars rather easily.
  21. Mars had to go to a tie breaker to beat Sarah Burchell of Clay County earlier this week.
  22. Freshman Nick Gray went the distance for the Tigers in a well played game by both teams.
  23. Clay had the bases loaded 4 different times in this game but couldn't get the big hit. Clay is in a tough part of their schedule playing quality teams on the road. Somewhere down the road this will pay off. Hang in there Tigers.
  24. He will be back in the lineup today. He had to be out of town yesterday.
