  1. You are correct Somerset's inside D, was solid. Mercer's O line needs lot of work, no drive off the the ball. My guess is, alot of Mercer's scores this year, will be of the broken play variety, due to the speed of Walker, Jackson, and Ford. Weak spot of the night was the referees, quick whistles, wierd penalties, I hope we do not draw any of those guys during the early part of the season. Next's week scrimage against Danville will be a test for sure.
  2. Neither team looked very sharp, Mercer scored a couple of times on broken plays. Both teams have alot to work on next week. Huge crowd for a scrimage, Mercer had more coaches than some "class A" teams dress for varsity. What did everybody else think?
  3. I am guessing there will be a huge crowd tonite for a scrimage, due to open house and first viewing of the merged team. Who has been getting the most snaps at QB in practice? If it is like last year, Marty won't show alot at this scrimage.
  4. Big doesn't always work, there must be a reason some of those kids sat out for several years. I think it will be a work in progress, but with 14-15 coaches, they should be able to give alot of attention to each of the kids.
  5. I think the QB's and RB's will be fine, the question is, how are the lineman progressing? Mercer lost most, and H-burg's were very young, and having to adjust to Marty's offense scheme. Mercer's overall speed will help cover alot of line problems.
  6. Donald Smith wasn't sure he would ever coach football again. However, the chance to help Mercer County coach Marty Jaggers mold the newly merged Mercer-Harrodsburg football team was an opportunity Smith couldn't let go by. The former star running back and coach at Harrodsburg will officially join the Mercer staff July 10 as associate head coach. Please read the attached http://www.amnews.com/public_html/?module=displaystory&story_id=23090&format=html
  7. If Mercer has 60 or so players by the 3rd game that would be great. I realize that a 120 or players are out, but when contact begins, they will start dropping. Freshman/JV program helps, but it is hard to schedule games. I look forward to an exciting season.
  8. Maybe not the best, but certainly, one of most interesting opening games in the state.
  9. Could this be the best opening game in the state this year? Merger? Blending 2 teams? Playing a up and coming Lexington school? Playing on TV? Coming off the first playoff win in years. How could it get any better for Mercer Co fans?:dancingpa
  10. Looks like mostly Mercer coaches, Football will be Jaggers, basketball coach is new from another school, baseball will stay the same, might have a few changes in other sports. Yeast, H-burg football coach, is suppose to be district wide AD.
  11. Students voted and board approved the new name "Titans" and it just happens that one of the kids' nickname is "Sunshine". Heck of lot better than Trailblazers.
  12. Isn't the student body voting on the new name this week? Trailblazers or Titans? Anything else changing? school song? the "M"? ........
  13. Please see story, http://www.amnews.com/public_html/?module=displaystory&story_id=22591&edition_id=893&format=html
  14. Changing Mascot was part of "merger" agreement, I believe, everything else stays about the same.
  15. Panel of students, with some supervision, have already picked Trailblazers. Sounds alot like a Pioneer.
  16. New Mercer Co. name, what does everybody think?
  17. The best part of this, is we are talking about Mercer football in May. After winning only 1 playoff game in 17-18 years, this sure is a refreshing change. After playing Lex Catholic and Boyle Co. in district play, for several years, I do not think anyone at Mercer is going to feel bad about be one of the largest 2A schools in the state. What a great way to start out the combined Mercer and Harrodsburg schools, than playing football in December. Hope it works out.
  18. Excellent Post 4th and Long, a few kids might have a few issues when the 2 schools finally merge, but for the most part, it should be a positive for education and Mercer's sports program. First few games should be interesting, I hope no one gets my seat
  19. It would be shocking if Jaggers, wasn't still head coach, after what he did last year. Very few of the Harrodsburg staff were teachers. Should be an interesting season.
  20. Russell by a bunch, after watching Friday night, Russell by 2-3 TD's
  21. Russell is a hard running, hitting team, with not alot of big kids, but I have a few questions about Russell: What's up with that fake kick-off? 7 out of the 8 fakes the referee had not yet blown the whistle for ready for play. Do they ever run the fake, seems kinda goofy for as good a program as Russell #18 and #24 are as hard of hitting kids as I have seen, but #24 was a little late on several of his hits, one on the QB and a couple on the sidelines, does he have a history of that, or just pumped up for the game Russell should advance against Newport.
  22. Maybe Mercer can help Russell shoot themselves in the foot, like Morgan Co. shot themselves in the foot. 41 points in 24:04, and Cougardad says Mercer needs to play better! Better get the Kool-aid out, if Mercer beats Russell.
  23. You can always count on alot posts, when you play Russell. They know all the stats, and history. Should be a heck of a game.
