  1. A little press from the Danville Advocate http://www.amnews.com/public_html/?module=displaystory&story_id=25732&format=html
  2. My daughter teaches at Mercer now, and Jack R. calls her "little Larry", I don't know if that is good or bad?
  3. Well, we made it to the 8th post, before the dreaded "R" word came out:dancingpa
  4. Is Henry a passing team this year? They have always been a big, running team. We have had some good games in the past. Boy is our district down this year!!! 7th post in this thread and the "R" word has not been mentioned
  5. Congratulations to Coach French! I was on the Mercer team in '74, when he was still could out run us, backwards. Good luck and hopefully many more wins
  6. It's easier to drop games (H-burg opponents) than pick up games. However, Western was scheduled for the Fort Harrod Bowl v N. Laurel, and Mercer added Boyle to the schedule, it help them fill a open date. The rest of H-burgs games were up to their opponents to fill. After many years of butt whippings, I for one, am enjoying this year.
  7. Joe, you are right as always:D Russell, last year did pretty good without a huge passing game. High School football is always about the run. Casey's sportswriter could be correct, that Mercer won't win it this year, but lack of a passing game will not be the cause. Casey sportswriter should comment on Casey's on troubles, Casey's kids tried hard, but they have a whole lot of work to do.
  8. School, you really drive by alot of nice houses on the way there. Field was not much. No seating, 2 years ago. Hopefully things have changed, it was a pretty new field when we were there.
  9. You can have your TE back. #81 going to play this week? I heard, if 2 unsportsman penalties, you had to sit. Glad you are back, I tryed to keep up the good fight:lol:
  10. Has seating got any better?, Last time, just a few bleachers. Mercer-whatever Marty wants it to be North Oldham-13
  11. Refs are a Northern Ky bunch, I have been to Newport 4 times, and the bunch last night is about what you get when you go to Northern Ky. Several of us "old timers", were waiting on the crucial call that turned the game around. It makes you grateful for the Central Ky refs. Mercer has a few things to work on , but Newport's D was really tough, not giving up the big play, until very late in the game. Will #81, get to play in next game? He sure has to work on his "sportsmanship", it could cost Mercer later, it did allow Newport to keep a drive going for their only score. Coach Smith was really working on him, didn't look like it was doing much good. Lewis and Buster really had a good game.
  12. Mercer's D was MVP tonite, game not as close as the score, Newport could not move the ball at all. Forced turnovers hurt Newport. 65 and 75 for Newport are players. Mercer really had no big plays.
  13. Reason for "merge" was Mercer is building a new school, and should be ready in 2 years. Harrodsburg's superintendent was retiring this year, Harrodsburg board did not want to hire a new superintendent with the merger in question. Harrodsburg Board of Education voted to merge 4 to 1 now. Mercer Co board then had the option to accept the merger or not. Mercer Board agreed 5-0 to accept. Harrodsburg students get the benefit of addition classes, Mercer gets the property of the old Harrodsburg school system. As most know in our area know the Mercer-Harrodsburg games were intense, and many thought the merge would have some problems, but I believe the sucess of the football team has really helped the transition. So the reason for 2 buildings for all you that don't have any idea what is going on, is that Mercer does not have room to house all students in one building, and will not have room for a couple of more years. Shocking but I believe the merge happened for the betterment of education and the chance for all kids in Mercer to enjoy a new school.
  14. It is a tough place to get to, you can see it from I-471. Parking is around the road and walk down the hill. I hope they have some better lighting with remodel of field. It always seems to be raining when we go to NKY, to play Lloyd or Newport.
  15. Newport only has one side, but the stands are huge. I don't think Mercer will quite have 3000 people there, at Casey game, I bet there was less than 1000. In the past when we went to Newport, we were lucky to have 150 fans. 300 or 400 at Newport would be a unbelievable showing.
  16. Scatback, I have read some of your other posts, especially about Lincoln Co., looks like your predictions are a little off. Mercer 38 Newport 27
  17. You have to agree, 30 or so "reserved" seats are a bit much. Alot of people were there that have not been to a Mercer Co. game in years, and had blankets and sleeping bags taped down. If they play tonite???? We will find out who the fans are. It is going to be nasty. Also we will find out how good that rubber "infill" works.
  18. They use to, but people complained that people with "all the money" were getting the best seats. I tryed to get that approved as a fund raiser several years ago, but that got nixed. That statement that someone "reserved" 30-40 seats is correct. Rain will slow alot of people down tonite.
  19. My only point Buffalo, is that with an offensive and defensive coach, they should get together at least for a few moments after every series and review what adjustments can be made on the fly with the players that aren't going both ways. Usually 8-9 are not going both ways. I think this would have us at a great advantage as we progress deeper into the season. We need to take advantage of our numbers, in both coaches and players over other 2A schools. This would surely be better than having players scattered from 25-25 yard line. Just because things like this have not been done in the past, does not mean we can't do new and better things in the future.
  20. Chris Lewis is about the only 1 that plays alot both ways, luckily, Mercer has not had alot of injuries to force them to go both ways. I look for Freeman to get alot more offense time at TE and FB. I know this is knit picking, but since Mercer pretty much platoons offense and defense, I would like to see the defense sit/stand together when the offense is on the field, and like wise when the defense is on the field. I noticed during the Boyle game that kids were scattered all over the side lines, and when there was a turnover, it was hard to get them out there. With 14-16 coaches, I believe one of them could review the previous series and make adjustments. The best part is, we have enough talented kids to platoon.
  21. We don't have trailers in Mercer Co., we have manufactured housing
  22. "First of all let's be real and point out once again that Mercer is a 5A team playing in 2A." Good grief this is getting old, Boyle was always one to play the Trinty's and St X's of the world and not complain. Mercer is a 2A team this year, and when KHSAA redisricts, Mercer will be 5A, and that is they way it is. Also let me point out something "27-14", Mercer 4-0 and Boyle 1-4.
  23. Great win Coach Buchanan, come on home to Mercer during your off week.
