  1. That poll was put out the same day the state top 25 poll with Beechwood and St. Henry came out... it is wrong obviously. No offense, but putting Newport in a top five regional poll is just not possible. NCC doesn't belong either at this point.
  2. And I'm sure that some kid did get the schollarship. Today's recruiting goes from 8th grade to JC, not to mention transfers..
  3. Not necessarily. A lot of seniors with scholarships don't play their final club season, especially if they are early graduates.
  4. The only NKY team NDA plays outside of their District and Conference teams is St. Henry.
  5. This game will be interesting. I always like a good underdog story so I will definitely be pulling for the Eagles, but NDA has controlled the region for the entire 21st century. I don't see that changing with this senior class with or without Morgan. They're pretty deep. NDA in straight sets.
  6. Thanks for the update. I think a lot of those serve receive errors will go away when Morgan gets back. It's not surprising to me that they would struggle against Mercy without her. Lets face it, she's one of the top kids in the country and is headed to Stanford, any team trying to play at an elite level would be a bit out of sorts without her in the lineup. Without her NDA is just an above average team. No offense to the other girls on the squad, but there's a reason she's on TEAM USA. She's a game changer.
  7. Surprisingly the scrimmage was fairly even. Boone County won the first two sets 25-24 26-23 and tied the third at 12-12 as time expired. In all three sets Dixie led most of the way before Boone battled back to take control. Dixie's JV team won their portion of the scrimmage IMO, with several bright spots. On varsity BC had several players who did well. Their setter and outsides mainly offensively. Defensively they were pretty scrappy but like Dixie have a few holes to fill in the back row, which is expected at a scrimmage. For Dixie the biggest surprises were Senior Setter Emma Alkofer and Sophomore DS Alex Englehard. Both played very well. Alkofer got some limited time on varsity last year, but it was obvious she's put in a lot of work during her club season. Metzger and Long remain the offensive focus, with both playing 6 rotations, but Long has switched to Middle Hitter due to a lack of depth at that position. Jr. Bella Sizemore will assume the L2 duties, and was very solid defensively. In her first varsity foray at Middle Blocker I thought 8th grader Irene Wogenstahl did a good job overall of adjusting to the speed of the game in HS. This kid has a huge upside, as do several of the younger players at Dixie.
  8. Dixie JV/V scrimmages Boone tonight. Looking forward to seeing where we're at. Dixie will be young in spots this year. Our freshman team looks good compared to years past. I think they will do pretty well this season for a change.
  9. That makes sense that they would still be on the schedule. Frankly I thought it strange they would not be. As far as the KHSAA website goes I don't know where the issue lies with keeping the info up to date but I agree something in the system is flawed.
  10. From Holmes schedule last season on the KHSAA website.... Aug 28, 14 Notre Dame away (L) 0 - 2 (25-4, 25-7) Holmes is not on the schedule this year.
  11. They have a conference awards banquet for volleyball? I'm guessing they only give a few awards out if so.
  12. Carlie Wise at Cooper has nice hands but was a little slow getting to errant balls in the past. I thought last club seasons she made some strides at fixing that. If Cooper can pass effectively she will do a good job at setter. For some reason I didn't get a change to see Hollis play much last club season, so I can't speak on her, other than to say that in HS any kid playing club has a leg up on those who don't. Cooper has a nice bunch of hitters and running a 6-2 might just be what the doctor ordered, especially if the coach uses it to teach the kids during the spots in the rotation when their not in.
  13. 1. Assumption (9) 2. Notre Dame (5) 3. Mercy Academy (5) 4. Sacred Heart (2) 5. Henry Clay 6. Ryle 7. Paul Laurence Dunbar 8. St. Henry District 9. Cooper 10. McCracken County 11. Oldham County 12. Tates Creek 13. North Oldham 14. Christian Academy-Louisville 15. Allen Central 16. Apollo 17. DuPont Manual 18. Butler 19. Central Hardin 20. Newport Central Catholic 21. Holy Cross (Louisville) 22. Beechwood 23. Scott 24. Owensboro Catholic 25. Male Interesting that Assumption is ahead of NDA, St Henry's below Ryle and Dunbar, and Beechwood and NCC are ahead of Scott. Not sure I see those that way but hey, for a preseason poll its pretty good.
  14. I like this but I'm not sure about 2 and 3. Campbell lost quite a bit off last years squad. I guess we will see how well the underclassman can step up. Filling Cundiff and Gray's shoes will be tough. Both those ladies were very good.
  15. Couldn't agree more. It concerns me that the program may slip back to where it was. Love her or hate her, Andrea Atwood did a great job of making SK relevant in recent years, and the fact that she is moving on to the college ranks says something of her understanding of the game. With all that said I know nothing of the new staff and wish them the best. There's a decent amount of talent there.
  16. By the way, Hi Moonie and welcome to BGP. Gray is one of the few places in NKY where a public school culture exists that gets kids started early. Glad to hear they are doing so well.
  17. Actually, if you go to a national qualifier the USA division is the second top qualifying division. The National Division bids only get handed out at the region level. USAV ranks the importance of a National Div. bid over a USA bid, which I totally disagree with as do many others. There are many Open teams who play multiple National Qualifiers and start out playing in the USA division hoping to secure a bid so they can cement their travel plans, and then move on to attempting to get an Open bid once that is accomplished. The top teams in the USA division can easily compete in Open at any National Qualifier.
  18. Very interesting to say the least. I still think volleyball should be divided into classes, as it would help the smaller schools, but other than that I like the proposed changes. Especially when you read that the coaches are not taking the voting seriously.
  19. uhhhhh.... I guess you didn't see the part that said she was a former JV/Varsity assistant to the previous head coach.
  20. That doesn't mean they're wrong.... and volleydad isn't a Cooper parent. Generally where there's a lot of smoke there's fire.
  21. FYI - Dixie is not going to this this year. I also think Ryle is the class of this field. They only lost 3 to graduation and we all have heard about the new girl transferring in. Below are the underclassman from last years rosters and current class year. 1 Caroline Hsu DS Jr. 12 Kallie Ailstock DS Sr. 6 Chase Barber L/DS Sr. 7 Skylar King DS Sr. 4 Hayley Bush S/OH/DS Jr. 9 Hannah Meyer DS Sr. 8 Samantha Shane RH Sr. 11 Tatum Davis S/DS Sr. 10 Allie Stinson OH/RH Jr. 13 Olivia Dellecave OH/RH Jr.
  22. If I remember correctly I believe both Scott and SK asked to be moved into those regions.
  23. Probably because even in their decline they are still the 2nd best team in NKY. We will see you may be right, they will lose a lot after this season. It all depends on the Frosh's and Sophmores this year.
