It's Volleyball Season!!!!

Featured Replies

Is everyone as excited as I am about the upcoming season? I've missed volleyball this summer and can't wait to see how the girls have improved or changed since last season.

Other than the players we normally talk about, anyone new to watch for this year??

Oh yes there is.... but I think it'll be better if everyone waits to find out. You'll know who I'm talking about when season begins.

Yea I already heard about that transfer...anyone else to talk about?

let's talk about the transfer - reports are Ryle getting a 6'2" class of 2018 middle moving here from Texas. Plays on a high end club team. With Ryle graduating both of their middles, she will presumably walk right into a starting Varsity role.

With the biggest player in the 9th region now at Ryle filling a need they had, are the Raiders now the team to beat in the 9th?

She originally approached NDA but for some reason that didn't work out an she went with Ryle. From what I understand she will make an immediate impact on varsity - how could she not at that height?

Not sure that she played on a "high end club team" - but they did win the USA division at GJNC this summer.

Ryle will be good there is no doubt. IMO They won't beat the machine known as NDA but St. Henry might be a good game.

Looking forward to see what happens this year!!

Volleyball is a TEAM sport, so unless she brought some other players with her, I don't see anything changing in Region 9. NDA wins it. As far as St. Henry vs Ryle, I think that will be the same too; an up in the air decision that will be determined by how well the underclassman adjust to their new starting roles. I'd give Ryle the edge right now, but St. Henry has several Freshman who may make an impact by the end of the year, it just depends on how they adjust to the HS game, and how well the upperclassman in front of them perform. Either way, going forward next year I see St. Henry taking over the #1 Role in the region. In my opinion NDA's reign will end after this season. The well is starting to run dry on the hill, but never fear, they will be back in a few years.

In the last 14 seasons, ND has 10 Region titles, and St. Henry has 4 (all other teams combined have 0) I don't know if ND's reign ever ends. It may take a year off. They are 7-1 the last 8 seasons, so maybe they are due.

But then again, I believe 2 years ago ND graduated like 6 or 7 seniors, with the majority of them playing in college, and everyone said ND was done. And they finished 2nd in State the year after those losses. So you take the field, and I'll take ND next year. And if I'm Newport Central, I'm begging to go back to the 10th region.

Good points, but I still don't believe NDA's team the next few years will be anywhere near what they have this season. St. Henry will take their turn at holding the Regional reigns next year IMO and we will see how long that lasts. NDA doesn't have another Morgan Hentz in waiting. Again, its just my opinion. I still believe they will be good enough to pummel many of the teams around here.

St. Henry has been on the decline for many years now. I don't know why you would put them ahead of Ryle and NDA even with Bessler and Tobertge going there.

Probably because even in their decline they are still the 2nd best team in NKY. We will see you may be right, they will lose a lot after this season. It all depends on the Frosh's and Sophmores this year.

I know this is mostly a northern Kentucky/Louisville are dominated sport but I will say from my area in the 10th Region Scott will be the favorite in the region with everyone else way behind. But a player to watch in the 39th district IMO is 6'3" Korbin Florer of Bracken Co. she is profecient in all aspects of the game and plays alot of club (AAU) ball with the northern KY girls. If you have not heard of her yet you will. Bracken will most likely be the favorites in the 39th and potentially top 5 team in the region. Will they be a threat to Scott? I dont think so this year, but who knows what can happen on any given night.... May be a slight favorite in the All A but i know nothing about Brossart.

Not true My Shadow. Talked to the parents this weekend and never approached NDA, was headed to Ryle from beginning. Also played Varsity as a Freshman at the 6A level in Texas, and played club ball for one of the top teams in San Antonio competing in the Lone Star Region. Club team was headed to Open division before injuries hit the team. Ryle has some great players so should fit right in. Agree

A few of us heard it from someone at NDA so not sure where the disconnect is? Regardless, she is part of a great program and will get some great training from the Ryle coaching staff. Saw her play this weekend. She is young and needs some work but she has the potential to be a crazy good player!

When you say "headed to open" I assume that means they won an open bid? Unless the rules have changed, they are required to play open - regardless of injuries. USA is 2 divisions below open so that is a significant drop.

She is an awesome addition to the Ryle squad! Excited to see how she develops!!

[Did not qualify for open. Played open tournaments after qualifying for usa in colorado. Injuries took their toll and team was unable to qualify. Saw some good players this weekend. Henry Clay has a talented 2018 Mb as well. Should be an exciting year.

Actually, if you go to a national qualifier the USA division is the second top qualifying division. The National Division bids only get handed out at the region level. USAV ranks the importance of a National Div. bid over a USA bid, which I totally disagree with as do many others. There are many Open teams who play multiple National Qualifiers and start out playing in the USA division hoping to secure a bid so they can cement their travel plans, and then move on to attempting to get an Open bid once that is accomplished. The top teams in the USA division can easily compete in Open at any National Qualifier.
