A lot of it will depend on the draw again. If Harrison defeats Nicholas County, HC could have to go through Scott/Campbell Loser, GRC and Scott Campbell Winner. That would be a tough draw. I look for Nicholas County to compete well inthe 10th Region Tournament as well.

Did something happen to one of their players?

I am going with the Thorobreds, too much experience, deep pitching, a tough schedule and Coach Whitaker.

Wow, this is a surprise! Western Hills had a tremendous regular season, but the real season has started now.

Final from the opening round of the 38th District. Jordan Mynear goes the distance for the Bluejackets and drives in the games only run in the bottom of the 6th. Colton Partin takes the tough luck loss for the Wildcats as he pitched very good, but the Wildcats stranded 10 baserunenrs. This was an excellent game. Nicholas County advances to face Harrison County tomorrow in the 38th District Championship and both teams advance to next weeks 10th Region Tournament at Scott High. Pendleton finishes its season with the tough loss. Senior Patrick Johnson grounded hard to 1st with runners on 1st and 3rd to end the game. Best of luck to Patrick at Cumberland next year and to fellow Senior Travis Rawe.

Even so, playing that many games at that age is too much on young arms.

Harrison County's success started long before these traveling teams. It is yet to be determined whether these traveling teams have helped or hurt the program. Coach Jim Whitaker being a long time Little League coach and coaching many of the 11-12 year olds in Little League All-Stars was the big factor in the State Championship years. His All-Star Teams played maybe 20 games a summer and they included most of the players who won the State Championships in 1993, 1997 and 1998. Travel teams playing 100-150 games a summer has not proven anything yet. Although they have ganined some valuable experience and seen Cooperstown etc. and faced some good competition, it all comes together on the Hilltop under the direction of Coach Whitaker. The 2004 team that lost in the Semi-State to Chaz Roe and Lafeyette and the 2005 team that made it to Applebee's did not play a lot of travel ball during the summer. I think some of the younger travel teams in Harrison County now are doing more damage than good by wearing out the young arms. They play Little League during the week and then travel on weeekends. Too much throwing for the young arms in my opinion.

This is a shocker because Scott County has not looked that good.

I finally saw Bourbon County yesterday and they are 23-2 which is an outstanding record, but Pendleton County helped them out early with some poor defense and spotted them an early 7-0 lead and lost 8-0. Looking at Bourbon County's schedule I am still not convinced that they are a top 25 team.

They were #20 last week, but lost to Lex Cath and Trinity over the weekend. It was Senior night on the Hilltop and the 4 Thorobred Seniors (Eric Case, Bobby Feeback, Taylor Hill and Dustin Sellers) were honored before the game.

Me too! Except for last years 1-0 loss to Lex Cath in the State Tournament, now that one hurt. It ranked right up there with the 3-2 9 inning loss to Lafeyette in the Semi-State against Chaz Roe and the 13 inning State Tourney loss to PRP in the 1990's.

Is this a little surprising that is was so lopsided?

Who pitched for Harrison County tonight?

I saw Brossart against Highlands earlier this year and they looked very good. Last night against HCHS they did not look as good. I agree it can go either way.

So do they just play each team once in games that count towards seeding? Those 3 teams are usually very competitive with each other every year.

This is my prediction. 37th - Scott and Brossart 38th - Harrison and Pendleton 39th - Bracken and Mason 40th - Bourbon and GRC 37th - Campbell and Brossart should be a great elimination game 38th - Nicholas and Pendleton should be a great elimination game 40th - Montgomery and GRC could be a good game too. What does everyone else think?

Do they seed the 37th District or does it just seem that Campbell and Brossart draw each other every year? Looks as if it is seeded this year, but they don't all play each other twice.

I heard this morning that Calvary Christian plays Silver Grove in the 37th and the winner plays Scott. Campbell County and Bishop Brossart pair off in the other game. Not sure exactly who plays when.

I know that Pendleton County plays Nicholas County and Deming plays Harrison County in the 38th District. How do the other District Tournament match-ups look? Nicholas beat Pendleton 5-0 in Falmouth and Pendleton beat Nicholas 4-1 in Carlisle. This game has the potential to be a very good match-up.

Wildcats rally from an 8-4 deficit to win on the road. The bats came to life as Pendleton hit 3 or 4 HR's. Pendleton improves to 11-16 on the season. Mason drops to 10-15.
