  1. I am a diehard Cowboys fan since 1966. I have jerseys of Meredith, Staubach, Aikman, Smith, Romo, Witten, Bryant and Irvin, but if I ever wore another teams jersey it would be Tebow's! He is an awesome role model for people of all ages and he is proud of his faith and he lives it on and off the field. Did anyone even catch him talking about the real great thing was getting to spend time with a young girl who had been through 73 operations? The NFL and sports in general need more Tim Tebow's.
  2. I coached against Gary and my youngest son played for Gary for 2 years with the Cobra's and he was nothing but a positive role model. Prayers to his wife, family and friends from the Hilltop in Harrison County.
  3. Gary Ishmael (February 7, 1957 - January 6, 2012) Gary R. Ishmael 54, of Flemingsburg passed Friday morning January 6, 2011 unexpectedly at Fleming County Hospital. He was born February 7, 1957 in Ayer Massachusetts to Lloyd "Dick" Ishmael and the late Fumiko "Toni" Ishmael. Gary worked at Toyota in Georgetown, KY as a team member for over 25 years. Gary was well known around the region and state as an outstanding baseball and football coach. He had coached small fry football in Fleming County for over 20 years, and worked with the middle school football team for several years. His pride and joy was his Cobra baseball team that he traveled with every summer for 15 years, mentoring and coaching many young men from the area. He was the first baseball coach at the middle school when the team started back several years ago. He had coached girls softball and was on the "Chain Gang" every Friday night at the high school for a decade. Gary attended New Creation Praise and Worship Church. Survivors include his wife of 35 years Linda Grannis Ishmael Children: Michael Sean Ishmael, Joseph Allen (Sheena) Ishmael, Kimberly Rae Ishmael, & Desmond Christian McAdams Siblings: Bill ( Lynn) Ishmael, Michael Vernon (Penny) Ishmael, and Nancy (Tony) Gregory Father: Lloyd "Dick" (Molly Bacot) Ishmael Several Nieces & Nephews Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, January 9, 2011 at Fleming County High School. Visitation will be after 5 PM Sunday at the High School. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gary Ishmael Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Peoples Bank. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone - Nickell Funeral Home.
  4. Please post the visitation and arrangements when they become available. I had heard that visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 at the High School, but I am waiting on confirmation of that. Thanks!
  5. It is with a heavy heart that I report that long time Fleming County and Cobras baseball coach Gary Ishmael passed away early this morning from a suspected heart attack. My prayers go out to Gary's family. He was a great person, great with kids and a very good coach. Gary we will miss you!
  6. Did Harrison County play Montgomery County in this Tournament?
  7. 2-7 and make the play-offs? Wow there is something wrong with the system and this picture. Congrats to the Breds for extending their season 1 more week!
  8. Can you say 7 in a row after those 3 games? Didn't they really beat up on Bourbon County last year?
  9. Very well said. I hope that his teammates, coaches and fans rally around him. His play was not the only play that hurt, it was just the last play. I do sympathize with any kid when something like this happens. I guess that just being raised in Harrison County and playing for Coach Snopek and Coach Whitaker you learn to respect the game above all else and throwing of bats, gloves, etc. is not tolerated.
  10. Congratulations to Central Hardin on the State Championship and congratulations to Mercer County on an outstanding season. Again, Mercer County left it all on the field with the win over PRP and were really at a disadvantage by playing so late last night. But honestly, the best team did win.
  11. I have played at a competitive level as have my sons. I witnessed Harrison County lose a 1-0 9 inning game a few years ago to Lexington Catholic in the State Tournament on a ground ball that many thought was a routine play to the shortstop. The ball actually took a bad hop just before getting to him. He was visibly upset, but he didn't shun his teammates, he didn't throw his glove, he got in the line-up and shook hands with the Catholic players. Although upset over the play, this young man showed class and character in the situation unlike what was witnessed in this situation. I also saw a player this year who got robbed on a home run call go to the field and throw his glove down and the coach benched him immediately for it. This is how baseball should be played and how the players should react. Being around high school baseball for over 25 years I just can't see how anyone can defend this type of behavior. This is all I have to say on this issue. I do sympathize with the kid, but I do wish he had shown more class and character when the game was over.
  12. His behavior after the play is an issue. Respect for the game means no throwing gloves, bats, helmets, hats in anger, period. And for fans not to see it as an issue is what is wrong with some of today's players. In my opinion a very disrespectful move that showed lack of class. I have seen other games end in the State Tournament in years past similar to this and the kids showed class and respect for the game through their disappointment and didn't lay on the ground for minutes, reject a teammate and throw their glove. This kid needs to grow up!
  13. I agree to a certain point, but his attitude after the play was ridiculous. 1) He laid out there and then shunned a teammate who come out to console him and 2) He threw his glove which is so childish! It wasn't the gloves fault. Kids need to learn to respect the game and should be taught that. He will be more remembered for how foolish he acted after the play than the actual play itself. The one play did not cost PRP the game. Look back at it and you will see that it was a culmination of several plays that caused them to lose. Pray that this young man will learn to handle adversity better than he did in this situation.
  14. I agree with your point. I don't know all the circumstances or even if he was kicked out of school, but if he was and if we don't stop rewarding athletes for bad behavior who will? This is becoming a very serious issue. Most all high schools have the student athletes who they have a different set of rules for. I mean who thinks Bud Mackey had never been in trouble at Scott County before his Senior Year? He did get punished, had opportunity after opportunity and still keeps messing up.
  15. Final from the first Semi-Final game. Congrats to Central Hardin on the win and to St. X on a great season.
  16. But even saving the ace doesn't always work and that is why they play the games. Nothing better than Kentucky High School Baseball.
  17. Good Info KY Thorobred. Thanks for setting the record straight.
  18. In my opinion not much of a surprise. Bourbon used all their pitching and won an emotional marathon last night in beating Harrison County. Congratulations to Coach Larry Allison and the Cardinals on the win and also congratulations to Coach Nelson Farris and the Colonels on an outstanding season.
  19. Final. Bourbon County improves to 25-8 while Harrison County finishes the season at 20-10. Brandon Kendall pitches a solid 9 innings for the Thorobreds giving up only 1 earned run. Harrison flirted with disaster all night as Bourbon County squandered chance after chance to score, but finally in the 11th they were able to finsih off the Breds.
  20. "I think Clark will win a nail biter in this one. Clark 5 Campbell 4." Oh well I missed each team by 1 run, but it was a nail biter.
  21. Should be 2 good games on Wednesday at the "Hump" in Campbell County.
  22. Walker was Mr. Baseball in 1992 and Newby was Mr. Baseball in 1993 if I am not mistaken.
