  1. NCAA would never do it, but it would at least be a BRIGHT LINE for selection. Kinda like having to be .500 to go to a bowl game. Regardless of how tough your league is, do you really have an argument to go dancing if you can't at least go .500 in your league? In 2018, the following would have been eliminated from consideration. (There may be others. I couldn't find a source showing all at large teams with their conference records.) Does anyone think any of these teams would be a great loss if they weren't in the tourney or under consideration at the end? Maybe you add in their conference tournament record, but that could cut both ways. Syracuse (8-10) Notre Dame (8-10) Oklahoma (8-10) Oklahoma St. (8-10) Texas (8-10) Alabama (8-10) Arizona St. (8-10)
  2. Really good showing by Mingione's club this weekend. Last 2 weekends show they can compete with anyone this year. The 2 games with UofL should be barnburners.
  3. Thompson getting the L on Sunday is tough. He pitched very well with 10 Ks. Walked the 1st batter of the 7th with UofL up 3-2 and allowed 2 runs that inning. I thought McD should have pulled him after 6 as he was at 90 pitches, but McD knows much more about it than me. Liam Jenkins still has control problems and showed it in the 8th when things got away from the Cards. Walking the leadoff batter is always a recipe for disaster. Overall, a good showing for the Cards who now run their record to 27-4 in series play in the ACC (a ridiculous statistic for sure). Texas Tech comes to JPat for 2 midweek games after being in Lexington this weekend. Midweek games are tough to judge, but will be nice to play Top 10 team 2x as the ACC is loaded. Hopefully Nick Bennett (Moeller) will be back on the mound for 1 of the games. He is slowly coming back from some shoulder pain.
  4. OH is very similar to KY and courts generally enforce them. As pointed out above, even if it is not enforceable b/c the geographic scope is too broad, ya gotta get a job first (which can be difficult based on the potential new employer questions) and then afford to pay the lawyer fees to win the challenge (realizing new employer may put her "on the sidelines" until it gets worked out). Tough situation.
  5. So since it's just a foul when you rake across a guy's arm or face trying to block a shot or get a steal, the same rule should be applied if a guy is running down the court well away from the ball and you do the same thing? Disagree.
  6. I just saw an article that said Danny Graves and Sam LeCure are going to be Grand Marshals for the Opening Day (not really) Parade in 2018. It also said that Graves and LeCure will contribute to coverage of the Reds this season on WLW. One article said they were both doing color commentary. While it is WEAK SAUCE that's the best they can do for Grand Marshals, what experience or capabilities do either bring to the booth? It's bad enough the team is gonna be turrrrrrible, now we gotta listen to on-the-job training announcers? C'mon man. What we even tryna do here, man?
  7. Sutton typically leaves everything out there and is the only one who aggressively boxes out. I didn't get to see either game in the ACC Tourney, but radio broadcast sounded like Sutton really played well against FSU. Perry also plays very energetic but is a Frosh. He will get better. Love his defensive intensity (except with 0.9 seconds left ).
  8. Correct. I remembered the comeback win at FSU and "assumed" they beat them at the Yum! Forgot about that wretched stretch losing to FSU and Syracuse at home.
  9. Allowing a 26 point lead at the under 12:00 to be cut to 6 is brutal, but survive and advance they say. Would be tough to see FSU (3-0) and VaTech (2-0) go dancing whilst at home, but they'd have nobody to blame but themselves (and not just for that UVa debacle).
  10. I think there is a middle ground here. In your earlier posts, you were talking about "one way" commitments where a coach can't stop a kid from saying he has committed to School X. That's completely understandable and I doubt anyone on here would consider that a "D1 offer." In the middle, there is the "unofficial offer" that is communicated by School X. While they don't have to follow through on it AND it can be subject to meeting clearing house and other requirements, most on here would consider that a "D1 Offer" if it is coming from School X. The reality is a coach is not going to get very far in recruiting if he's sending out a ton of these "unofficial offers" and then pulling them when it comes to signing time. Word gets around. If School X has provided an "unofficial offer," they are likely to keep it out there unless something major changes. Finally, official offers are as has been described above.
  11. Yes, but UofL did not have possession. UVa was at the FT line, where they made 2 then the lane violation. UofL did then have possession and a 2 point lead. Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, I know.
  12. I texted my wife and son (who were in the arena) that "22 will run the baseline" before it happened (10:10 PM). I was hoping to be wrong. I agree from a coaching standpoint running a normal inbounds play was stupid. You could even see 22 asking "do I throw it long?" before the substitution thing got resolved. Ugh!
  13. It probably does. UofL was never up 4 w/ possession at 0.9 left.
  14. Technically 6-8 in crunch time as McMahon was 2-4, Perry was 2-2 and Spalding (although hardly a 90+% FT shooter) was 2-2. Another Q, why was Mahmoud not guarding the inbound guy on the last play? Don't you want to make that pass as hard as possible?
  15. 30 - make a FT 2 - don't foul 22 - don't run the baseline 22 - just throw it downcourt 22 - throw it hard into defender's midsection 22 - throw it at defender's feet 22 - roll it inbounds like a bowling ball (even if a UofL player doesn't touch it to start clock, no way a UVa player picks it up from floor and heaves it toward goal before clock expires) 22 - make sure your coach has 13 in the game so you can lob it to him like a jump ball to stat the game and make sure he jumps straight up and doesn't try to grab it and merely tips it to start the clock (no way a UVa player can get higher than 13 and actually possess the ball, much less shoot while grabbing it in the air) US Reed hoops UC Santa Barbara baseball Cal State Fullerton baseball UVa hoops
  16. Can't believe @TheDeuce didn't take this obvious bait.
  17. Not only his 1st college AB, but the 1st pitch he saw as a college player. Joins a long list of players to do that!
  18. Short-sighted and dumb move by a dinosaur organization soon to be relegated to the annals of history. Team A, a school clearly caught with its hand in the cookie jar, cooperates with NCAA, conducts its own investigation, self-imposes a postseason ban on a team that actually could have made noise in that tournament (not a Syracuse self-imposed ban on a barely bubble team) and other sanctions and throws itself on the mercy of the NCAA. Team B, also clearly caught with its hand in the cookie jar, obfuscates, delays, denies, fabricates, muddies the waters and otherwise acts in a recalcitrant manner toward the NCAA throughout the long, arduous process. Team A gets hammered. Team B gets off completely and wins a championship. If you're called by the NCAA wanting to investigate something at your campus, what do you do? Bruce Pearl has learned the lesson after being burned once. Make 'em prove every dang thing. Make 'em prove the sun comes up in the East and sets in the West. Don't cooperate. Don't facilitate. Don't self-govern. Make it take as long as it possibly can. At worst, whatever happens will be way down the road. At best, you'll never serve a day in your life. :puke::puke::puke:
  19. What is the deal with the official that high steps up & down the floor all the time? He looks like a fool.
  20. Best of both worlds. Custom tailored suit at a good price. Use the code TonyK at checkout. Nigel swears by it. INDOCHINO | Custom Men's Suits
  21. Fools gold. GT anemic offense made UofL defense look good in the 1st half.
  22. Sadly, I don't think the way UofL plays a zone (man principles) is going to stop perimeter drives. It might slow them down from 100 mph to 95, but that's about it. With this team, I think you need more traditional zone approach. The fact that none of the guards (with the possible exception of Perry) can stay between their man and the basket has the pernicious effect of allowing copious offensive rebounds and put backs. Below are the typical scenarios: 1 - opposing guard drives past 4, 2, 22, 30, 0, etc. into the lane; 14 or 13 (or both) come over to block / alter the shot; miss goes to whoever 14 and/or 13 left who sticks it back in uncontested 2 - same except opposing guard passes it to whoever 14 and/or 13 left who sticks it back in uncontested 3 - same except opposing guard is fouled by 14 and/or 13 on the shot which gets them in foul trouble and the "UK scenario" takes hold Depending on how good the opponent shooters are, you are probably better forcing them to shoot and trying to close out on the as they do. It's really a "pick your poison" situation.
  23. While maybe not "great," UVa, Villanova and Purdue approach that.
