I think that it is funny because we have essentially figured out what stats could have told us. A majority of the people like seeding but there a few that prefer the draw. We could have seen that in the pdf file that someone posted earlier showing 54 districts that seed and 12 that don't...

The fact that they might be run out of the gym will be long forgotten because of the fact that they made it there. I venture to say that in the past ten years Dayton/Bellevue combined has not sent more than 3 teams to the regional total. While everyone else plays for more, and don't get me wrong whichever team is there is going to be playing hard, but its the fact that they are there. When you might be the first team from your school to make the region since the early '90s no one is going to discredit you for what you did once you got there, or like I said in another post, how you got there. When you are a Bellevue or Dayton the point that sticks out in your mind is that you were there.

Just thought I'd throw this out there. I know in at least one NKY school baseball has been on a gradual decline in the past 5 years, to the point that it is a struggle to field a team. At this particular place I noticed is that has happened is football is sport priority #1 and basketball is #1A among boys at the schools. The best athletes play these 2 sports first and then have seemed to either turn to track for conditioning in the spring or the football guys go right to the weights and the basketball guys have kept right on playing shortly after the season and on into the summer until October hits again. Maybe its just a wave of student athletes not heavy on baseball but it seems like its been happening for quite awhile... Anyplace else maybe having this problem or even tettering on theh edge of having this be a problem?

See the way I look at that is, Holmes is definately with the big schools, and CovCath has to be there with Holmes, and Highlands has to be there with CovCath. Leave em all in place and move Scott up if you have to. I think if HHS was given the option of being the smallest big school or biggest medium school they would choose the former...

Just out of curiosity does anyone know who did the officiating on this one?

It looks really good for this area... It would be interesting to see how it would stack up around the rest of the state also...

Have you been a player at one of these small schools? Not to be rude but unless you have I think it is irresponsible to put words in their mouth or rather to tell people how these players think. The players think realistically but aren't stupid. The cycle repeats itself because the school enrollment keeps falling, students in the district continue to choose the private schools etc.

I'm going to throw this out once again. This year the top of the 36th is Dayton vs. Bellevue. Last year is was Dayton vs. Highlands. Dayton fell 3 points short of the upset. While I'm sure that those boys would have felt great about beating Highlands, the point is that they got to the regional, not that they beat Highlands to get there. 10 years from now the team that wins that Dayton Bellevue game is going to say they were on a team that made regional and no one is going to say "Well who did you beat to get there?"

If I'm Dayton or Bellevue I would rather play each other for a shot at regional but if you check the 36th district draw thread there is a lot negative being said about that theory. Apparently they shouldn't do what is best for their school and vote to draw, but rather vote to seed because it benefits everyone else better... I like the draw but I don't want people to think that schools that maybe drew well but would've been a lower seed are just wanting to walk into the regional... They want a good draw but aren't afraid to play the other schools...

You are out of line.........you have no idea about the coaches of most small schools! I would bet that in addition to trying to compete on the court year in and year out with lesser talent than most schools, they also fight greater battles with other things such as funding, facilities, equipment etc. Small School Coaches get the entire package of headaches that SOME larger schools don't have. Until you walk in the shoes of the small school coaches, and until you know the work that is done day in and day out by the Cory Highfields, the Tom Dilts's. the Kent Vories', the Matt Sharps, the Robin Kelsch's and on and on and on, then you have no right to comment about a "capable coach". Most of those listed and others from small schools are quite "capable" of coaching. In case no one brought this to your attention, sometimes, you need talent and numbers. Give Tom Dilts or his staff, or Robin Kelsch the Holmes or CovCath or Mason County talent for a couple years and see if they can earn a top seed. My bet is without a doubt. Sometimes, coaches play the hand their dealt, and people aren't knocking down the doors to coach at these small schools for a few cents an hour:irked:

There is nothing wrong with a draw, but I am so worn out hearing the talk about how Dayton and Bellevue have it so easy and NC and Highlands got screwed I almost wish they did seed. Anything can happen if you have a team that isn't scared and isn't beaten by the name on the jersey...

As ridiculous as some posts are in this thread, this one has got to be the winner. 1st, the ALL A is a "private" tourney not sponsored by nor affiliated with the KHSAA so why would you mix the two. Anyone meeting their guidelines has the right to participate or not participate in the ALL A. And secondly, you are better prepared to intelligently post in the thread if you read it. Then, whatever your take is, you at least are better prepared to comment.

You continue to throw remarks out about these schools in which you have no idea of the situation. Not only that, but you continue to blast away with rude comments that are completely uncalled for. Yeah, I'm sorry, but it is different in the 9th than it is in the 13th. Maybe we'll just stick to basketball an do what is best for each individual school and not complain about how a draw is unfair and take "our" chances not wanting to be competitive. I'm done with this one... It's pointless...

Possibly, but that is always the argument that those kids get and I don't think its quite fair. In some cases its right and some wrong but we just don't know yet. And its not his fault that Dayton doesn't play Boone Cty, you know? FWIW, I am fairly sure that Eastin played AAU ball this past summer against some of the BC boys and held up rather nicely... For some reason I am thinking he played on a team with McDaniel from Newport and I have seen both play and think Eastin by far outplays him, not to discredit the kid.

You are highly out of touch with how most small schools in Kentucky work. There is only a small few that can actually compete with bigger schools year in and year out. Also, until you know all the fights that administration and coaches fight within small schools you would know more. Kent Vories and Tom Dilts bust their tails to make the best of what is offered to them in their schools. They take what is given and don't even have try outs. Do NOT discredit them for not being "capable coaches" because they don't have the talent flow or other assets that the schools in the district have. Did you ever look up the enrollment in Dayton or Bellevue? Also, yeah that is a good idea, Bellevue and Dayton I highly suggest you get rid of your coaches because there are people absolutely begging to come to Dayton and Bellevue to coach . They do what they can with what they have and because it isn't enough to win district championships they shouldn't be judged on that fact as you could bring in Coach K and give him the same teams at Dayton and Bellevue right now and he wouldn't be able to do much more than what is being done at either school now. Do you even realize that the tallest regular for either of these teams is 6'2''? Neither has had a DI talent come out in years and Highlands may have 2! Pardon my judgement but I don't think that commenting on Dayton or Bellevue, the job that their coaching staff and administration does with their program can be understood unless you at least have a simple knowledge of the schools that we are dealing with. Have you ever been to Dayton High School? It's one hallway... Thats it... If they can find 8 guys in that hallway that can compete in the top half of DIII and even up at .500 thats a heckuva year! Is that what they shoot for? NO, but in the grand scheme of things not too much more can consistantly be expected. Same goes for Bellevue. I just think it is quite irresponsible to judge a schools program, administration, and coaching when one most likely hasn't seen the teams play, hasn't been to the schools, has not seen recent 36th district tournaments or draws etc. Those schools do a heckuva job with their programs... Its not their fault that the talent that lies in Ft. Thomas, Newport, Alexandria, Cold Spring etc. isnt' on par with what they have in their towns. And that what I really think...

You keep discrediting the coaches/administration at these schools because they are doing what is best for their school and team.... Also I think it is discredit to the kids to say "if you aren't good enough just stay home." They work hard. They play hard. So they hope for a good draw, so what? Its not like when they don't get a good draw every other year they say "well we didn't get a school we match up well with so we'll go ahead an forfeit." They always "compete" as well as they can with whomever they draw. They can be allowed to hope for a good draw without being scared of a less favorable one...

Eastin is around, maybe a little under 18 ppg and somewhere between 8 and 9 boards per game...

We are talking about small schools in northern Kentucky because this thread was initially discussing the 36th district. Why does one have to be either "hoping for a break" or "competing." Why can't you hope for a good draw and then compete once the time comes. Its not like the small schools are scared to play the bigger schools but they understand that they are at a disadvantage. Just like Bellevue and Dayton. They never have shyed away from playing Highlands/Newport/NC but would rather play each other because they know they match up better? Is that a crime?

And look up the two small schools in question in this district... Is 800 students big compared to them?

For whatever reason, some small schools around the state can consistantly compete with the big dogs. The Hazards, Painstvilles, Rose Hills, etc. Dayton and Bellevue are not these schools. They don't have they enrollment, they don't have the athletes, and when they do have the athletes, they often struggle to get them playing all the sports they could be. Its not anyone in Dayton or Bellevue's programs fault, it isn't the kids that are playing's fault. But if there is anything to be done about it to change it a many have tried and failed to do so. Talent comes in waves around here. It's not a steady flow. Why? I have no idea. My last post was based on the fact that Hazard an Paintsville aren't competing every year with schools the quality of Highlands to get into regional. I will somewhat go back on that because I don't know who they play to get into regional or state for that matter. I also am not saying that Hazard and Painsville aren't very talented... I do know that I still don't know that I would favor them over a team like Highlands. And if Hazard or Paintsville were playing NC and Highlands to get to the regional every year would they be there as often?

Because Hazard and Paintsville aren't playing in Northern Kentucky and its different...
