My head coach at Saint X was John Meihaus. Coach played at Manual then at UK under Bear Bryant, with one of our assistant coaches. As you might have guessed, having learned from Coach Bryant, practices were easy and always had water flowing!

We will miss Alan. His was a job well done.

I am told it was a dollar and cents decision, and not made by the athletic department, who apparently wasn't even consulted. Shively was told after the fact. I don't know anything about Nike. What I have heard thru the grapevine is that this company comes in low and then escalates. I understand money is important, but come on folks, we are in the process of raising 51 million dollars. This is nickel and dime. The bean counters need to get out of this.

The sad thing is there is a strong Saint X connection and relationship with Shively.

I'm sure that when something is needed in an emergency the Houston company will put it on a private jet to Louisville at no charge.

Don't know either answer, but as a private school Saint X has never released any detailed info to the public.

Have recently heard that Saint X, without any warning, has terminated its 53 year relationship with Shively Sporting Goods and will purchase its athletic equipment and supplies from a national outfit out of Houston. If this is true, I am extremely disappointed with that direction. Apparently there was no effort made to allow Shively to respond as the decision had already been made, and the decision was made outside the athletic department. Come on Tigertown, you can be better than that.

For me it's when the game is no longer competitive, not just the score. The coaches know when. If a losing team pulls its starters, it's time to let up. Leaving your starters in the game with a 35 point lead in the 4th is probably past that time. I'm sure the parents of the Ballard reserves are real fans of the Coach as their sons sat on the bench watching the starters play with a 35 point lead in the 4th.

I wanted to add that we are a big boy school, so if somebody can beat us bad, so be it. Just don't pile it on unnecessarily.

My hats off to Spencer for not just throwing in the towel. But, back to Ballard and X, having two starters out with the flu and the Jerk keeping his first team in, is not acceptable.

Maybe someone should just say "Tua" to the jerk.

In today's CJ there is an article about the morons at the KHSAA maybe dropping field hockey as a sanctioned sport for state championship purposes. It admits it is not losing money, and has large crowds. A concern seems to be that it is just played in Jefferson and Oldham counties. It was noted that several girls get scholarships. I think everyone should write the KHSAA in support of this sport. Why should the girls in Jefferson and Oldham suffer because the rest of the state doesn't offer the sport? Not all schools have swimming teams, nor tennis teams nor golf teams. Should we ban those also?

We don'y need to be playing Cincy powers that last game, lose, and limp into playoffs on a loss and sore. Game means nothing to us, but as I understand, somehow it plays into their system.

Hate that regular season ender.
