St. Xavier 82 Spencer County 75

Featured Replies

Final from Henry County Classic

St. X dominated first half, and led by 26 (52-26) at intermission.

Spencer cut it all the way down to three in the final three minutes of the game, but the Tigers ice it at the line...

Players of the game:

Sam Conley - Spencer

Ben Varga - St. X

Shout out to Spencer County for continuing to play hard and make it close.

Ben Varga led the Tigers with 31. Nicholas Mosley had 8 assists. Kyle Bansbach had 9 rebounds. Retrieved from St.X basketball twitter.

Did Spencer make a comeback against the starters or after St. X had subbed in the reserves?

Based on updates, I believe starters.

Thanks couldn’t tell since CM didn’t list of St. ax’s players.

One minute into game Spencer County's starting point guard Jake Whitlock took a finger in the eye and sat out for a quarter and a half. St. X built a 26 point lead. Once he came back it was all Spencer County and St.X had their main players in the whole game. Nobody out for the flu. When Spencer County plays like that they are very good. They have been in a funk hopefully they are coming out of it.

I saw you mentioned in earlier thread that St. X got beat down by Ballard by 40 something. You do realize St. X was missing two of their starters? Any team missing two starters is probably going to be at a huge disadvantage against Ballard.

True also noticed the difference in Woodford Co. two scores without a starters vs Spencer and South Oldham.

Don't get your point. Spencer County played horrible last night but played great today? Simon Kenton lost to Grant and then beat Collins today. Different games. Different matchups. Your comparison earlier didn't mention that St.X was missing two starters. Just making sure you realized that. Yes, Woodford County was missing a starter against Spencer. Not sure where your trying to go.

The difference is Woodford played both days without one of the better players Spencer beats them 2 and South Oldham beats them 27. The point was between South Oldham and maybe Spencer.

Still don't know how that had anything to do with your original post on other thread where you pointed out that Spencer was down 26 to a team that had just lost to Ballard by forty points with no mention that St. X was missing two starters. I would guess you were pointing out that Spencer County must be pretty bad. Just letting you know that a fully loaded St. X team probably doesn't get smacked like that. Spencer got down 26 when their starting point guard was out for over a quarter getting medical attention. When he came back it was all Spencer County from there in out. You asked if they made their comeback against the bench players and I stated that no St. X played their starters throughout. St. X had all players today. You weren't at game so I was trying to give details. Technically Spencer County was missing their point guard for over quarter if you want to discuss who is missing players. Just trying to give details for the people who aren't there. Especially to the ones making assumptions.

Did Spencer play better in the second half because of the point guard or was it because you changed seats at the half?

Very few high school teams can lose/be without a key player and look anything like the same team at full strength. (St. X last night, Spencer tonight, Woodford, Simon Kenton, North Oldham, etc.) Ballard was without Minkins when they lost to PRP. Male will be different with Howard Fleming.

Foul trouble also can dramatically change the game for a high school team without much depth. Collins ran into that tonight.

Trying to make sense of scores from night-to-night with 15-18 year old kids will drive us crazy, but trends over a 30-game season usually bring some clarity.
