  1. Last week I predicted a double-digit win over Prestonsburg. Following that loss I figured that there would be no way that Lawrence county would defeat Johnson Central. Taking into consideration that I was wrong on both counts, let me go on record as saying that........I officially have no idea. Good Luck Eagles
  2. They used to draw for the pairings....but they have been seeding for a while, not sure just how long. They still use the draw for baseball though.
  3. JCHS 12-8 4-2 (JCHS Holds Win Over Paintsville) PHS 14-6 4-2 SCHS 8-11 3-2 LCHS 7-13 3-3 MCHS 5-11 0-5 Things are getting really interesting in the 57th. With Johnson Central losing to Lawrence County, the standings have reallt tightened up. IMO, the most important game thus far in determining the final seeds takes place on February 3 when Sheldon Clark visits Lawrence County. If Lawrence County wins they have a really good shot at the number three seed in the district. They have already finished their season series with both Paintsville and Johnson Central while Sheldon Clark plays Paintsville one more time on Feb 10. Also, if things fall in Lawrence County's favor they could end up as high as the number two seed. They hold wins over Paintsville and Johnson Central. So, if LCHS defeats Sheldon Clark, which ever team loses the next meeting will be tied with Lawrence County. And, I believe in that case the seeding is determined by a coin flip. Sheldon Clark is also in a nice position. If the Cards defeat Lawrence County a three-way tie will exist at the top of the district. Plus, Sheldon Clark also has one game left with Paintsville at home. If they were to pick up that win as well, things would really get interesting. I know it's still early but the LCHS win over JCHS got me thinking.
  4. Hats off to the Blackcats. This was a total shocker to me. I expected the score to be reversed...I figured this one would be a W for the Golden Eagles. I stand corrected and give P-Burg a lot of credit. Good win for the Cats. Congrats.
  5. Both teams have been playing well of late. However, I believe that Johnson Central is beginning to hit it's stride and the players seem to be gaining more and more confidence in Coach Starns' system. I'll take JC by 10+. JCHS 73 P-Burg 60
  6. SC did hit some big shots late in the game. But to be honest, Johnson Central should never have given them that opportunity. The Golden Eagles made some poor decisions in the fourth quarter, taking quick shots that were unneeded and trying to force passes that weren't there. That allowed SC to gain some extra possessions and knock down some threes. However, you still have to give credit to SC for taking advantage of those opportunities. All in all a big win for Johnson Central.
  7. I don't see any way Magoffin County can win this game. Regardless of how Paintsville is playing right now they still have too much talent...Tigers by double digits. Paintsville 75 Magoffin 64
  8. Another huge District Game for Johnson Central. First place is on the line as the Golden Eagles look to avenge the early-season loss to the Cards in Inez. What's everyone's thoughts on this one. I know SCJUNKIE will weigh in on this one. My Prediction: SCHS 65 JCHS 78
  9. Was JD VanHoose 100% in this game? I really felt bad for him. He just couldn't seem to get anything going. He is usually a force on the basketball court but really struggled the entire game. I was just wondering if he had been ill. With all of the sickness that has been going around.
  10. I believe he was referring to the way he changed the style of basketball that Johnson Central usually plays. This was the first time I can remember that Coach Starns slowed down the game. I was questioning that decision at the time...but that is the reason he is the coach and I am not. Turned out to be a great strategy.
  11. How many 3's did Broward hit. It seemed that at one point they hit one on 4 straight trips down the floor. And from what the radio guys were saying, Broward was shooting 5 to 7 feet behind the line.
  12. Sounds like a lot of wishful thinking to me...
  13. I think it is just amazing that individuals have the seuth-saying ability to encapsulate one player's career or an entire team's season with information gathered from one game. Very impressive!!!
  14. I have an idea... How about we rate every player in the state. Then we will create teams based on those rankings so that no team has an advantage over any other team. Then we draw numbers to see which team goes to which school. Then we draw numbers to see which coach goes to which team. That was everybody has a "fair" shot to win and nobody has an "advantage" After that, the team that wins in each sport is banned from competition so that the other teams don't feel bad about themselves. That way we can make sure everybody feels like a winner. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Sounds like a winner to me!!!
  15. This may need to be moved to another thread...if so feel free to move it. The private school debate really doesn't affect eastern KY that much...not too many private schools here...unless you count Piarist. The biggest problem plaguing this area is still recruiting but it is happening on the elementary and middle school level. It may be happening in other parts of the state as well but it is pretty bad here. I have seen coaches corner players after an elementary game asking them what it would take for them to come play at another school. I have seen athletes transfer in mid-season to play for another school. Everyone is trying to get around the transfer rule so they keep moving to younger kids to begin their recruiting. I am not sure what the solution is...applying the rule to Middle School Students might help some...but something really needs to be done. Anyone else have any thoughts?
