  1. I love the idea. If nothing else, it will get the players used to an arena-type shooting background especially if the students are seated behind the goals. This may help aleviate some of the shooting problems 15th Region teams seem to have in Rupp. Also, there will be plenty of parking, a number of restaurants to choose from and it's not that far from any school. The only thing that concerns me is that it, of course, won't be filled to capacity. That might take away from the atmosphere.
  2. WOW!!! I have never seen a team shoot like the Tigers did in the first quarter. I believe they were something like 75% from the floor in the first frame and 70% for the first half. Paintsville absolutely dominated Johnson Central in this one. They burried the Golden Eagles early and the hole was just too deep to get out of. Congrats Paintsville.
  3. I don't believe that there are any specific rules that apply to student sections specifically. There may be some that apply to fans in general but I don't believe the student section is singled out.
  4. I will be the first to admit that I have not given Magoffin County much of a chance to win this season. However, after watching the Hornets play Johnson Cetnral last week I will say that this may be the game that MC breaks into the District Win column. I will take the hornets to pull the upset by 5 in this one. MCHS 59 SCHS 54
  5. I agree that Paintsville is a very talented team. However, talent does not always manifest itself as wins when it is found predominantly in younger players. This is a unique situation. I have never seen Bill Mike struggle like he is this season getting through to players. For some reason, these kids don't seem to want to listen and they refuse to play defense. The Tigers have an opportunity to do something special but in order for that to happen the players must first buy what Bill Mike is selling.
  6. The Golden Eagles played a pretty complete game tonight. PCC is a very good team and I believe will make some noise in the Regional Tournament. This is a great momentum game for the Golden Eagles as they gear up for the Tigers on Friday. BTW...Brad Lowe is a player. Jamie McCarty 27 Kyle Rice 22 Ryan Fannin 17 Brad Lowe 35 (15 of 17 FT) Great Win JC!!!
  7. Looks like Paintsville was the team looking ahead to Friday...Johnson Central took care of business
  8. I guess everyone is looking ahead to Friday's matchup between Paintsville and Johnson Central...hopefully not the Golden Eagles. I can't believe that this game is not generating much discussion on this board. This could possibly be one of the better games of the year and is going to be a tough test for Johnson Central. The Lowe kid is arguably the top player in the region. The Hawks have the best record in the 15th Region with a mark of 16-6 and are 11-2 in their last 13 games. Those two losses came at the hands of Belfry and a Prestonsburg team that, at the time of the loss, was playing very good basketball. Also, PCC avenged that loss to Belfry last Monday with a 77-72 win over the Pirates on the road. Despite not getting much attention, I believe this game could answer a lot of questions as to the legitimacy of a possible regional tournament run by the Golden Eagles. With that said... JC by 3
  9. JC by 4...I believe that home court is worth something in this game. There are a few more seniors on Johnson Central's squad than that of Paintsville's. And those seniors would despise nothing more than allowing the Tigers to come to their home court in their district finale and knock them off. In this case, I believe that home court will definitely be an advantage.
  10. The Hornets really came to play in this one. But, this win for the Golden Eagles sets up the matchup most figured would be the deciding game for the district title and the number one seed in the 57th District Tournament...Paintsville at Johnson Central this coming friday. I can't wait for this one...I guarantee the place will be packed, especially with the girls playing as well.
  11. I believe Johnson Central already defeated Magoffin County once this season and unless I am mistaken that is the only time they have played. So, unless I missed a game Magoffin County has not beaten the Golden Eagles this year. But we also already addressed that possibility.
  12. Actually, if both JC and Sheldon Clark win out...that means Paintsville lost their final two games. If Lawrence County defeats Magoffin County in their final game, there will be two coin flips. The first will determin which team is the four seed between Paintsville and Lawrence County and will face Magoffin County in the play-in game and the second will decide which team is the number one seed...JCHS or SCHS. So, if that scenario plays out it will be like drawing the tournament instead of seeding it.
  13. Seriously, Pikeville is a team that I would move up in the rankings. I believe they have defeated East Ridge twice and are on the virge of a number 1 seed in their district.
  14. I think you may have David ranked a little too high...
  15. JCHS 12-9 4-2 (JCHS Holds Win Over Paintsville; Split With Sheldon Clark) PHS 15-7 4-2 (PHS Holds Win Over SCHS; Lost To JCHS) SCHS 9-11 4-2 (SCHS Split With Johnson Central; Lost To PHS) LCHS 8-14 3-4 MCHS 6-12 0-5 Wow, one would think that this late in the regular season, district seedings would be a little more clear than they are right now in the 57th District. At this point, only one thing is for certain. Magoffin County will be the number five seed. However, their opponent in the play-in game remains a mystery. Right now, the possibility remains that three of the other four teams could finish the season in the 4th slot. The only team exempt from that possible dubious distinction is Sheldon Clark which has defeated Lawrence County, the team currently holding down the numer four position in the district, twice. Therefore, no matter what happens to the Cards the rest of the way they can finish no lower than 3rd and still have a shot to win the district. Believe it or not, both Paintsville and Johnson Central could find themselves in the play-in game despite their early-district success. Johnson Central has, by far the easiest road to avoiding the play-in game while Paintsville may have the toughest. Johnson Central Two District Games Remaining Magoffin County @ Johnson Central 2-10 Paintsville @ Johnson Central 2-17 The Golden Eagles should, I repeat, Should have little trouble with Magoffin County this Friday. However, Johnson Central has been sliding as of late. A win here eliminates the possibility of a tie with Lawrence County for the number 4 spot and a trip to the play-in game. Also, if Paintsville defeats Sheldon Clark it puts the district Championship on the line the following Friday as the Golden Eagles host Paintsville. Keep in mind that losses in the last two games and a Lawrence County road win over Magoffin County on 2-18 places these two teams in a tie at 4-4 in the district and a coin flip would determine which team is the number four seed. While unlikely, the possibility remains. Paintsville Two District Games Remaining Paintsville @ Sheldon Clark 2-10 Paintsville @ Johnson Central 2-17 The Tigers have two tough district game remaining and to make things even tougher they are both on the road. The scenario of both a Johnson Central and Paintsville win on 2-10 has already been hashed out. But, should Sheldon Clark defeat the Tigers this Friday, they are then in the Drivers seat for at least a tie for the regular-season title and a possible coin flip for the number 1 seed. Just as is the case with Johnson Central, losses in the last two games for Paintsville and a Lawrence County road win over Magoffin County on 2-18 places these two teams in a tie at 4-4 in the district and a coin flip would determine which team is the number four seed. Sheldon Clark Two District Games Remaining Paintsville @ Sheldon Clark 2-10 Sheldon Clark @ Paintsville 2-17 A lot of criticism has been give to Cardinals' Coach JR Hammonds this season. Now, whether that criticism had been deserved or not, the fact remains that he has his team in a position to win a district championship and their fate is in their own hands. If the Cards win out they are guaranteed of nothing less than a tie for the district title. Even if they lose their remaining games they are guaranteed a seed no lower than 3rd due to two wins over Lawrence County (something that no other team in the district has been able to accomplish). While there are a lot of possibilities as to the possible scenarios that could play out for teams finishing second or third, that is really of no consequence since the 2 and 3 seeds play in their first district game anyway. Let me go ahead and tell you that I am sorry. This post turned out to be a lot longer than I expected. So, with all of that said...we still don't know what is going to happen.
  16. I believe that one of the advantages held by the smaller private schools is the coordinated effort to run all feeder school programs the same, using the same terminology, drills, offenses, defenses, etc. The mandate comes from the top (the high school head coach) as to what he or she wants to have taught. In some of the larger public or county schools in many instances there is so much competition between the schools that individual agendas are put ahead of the program, creating power strugles between the grade school, middle school and high school programs. In order for a high school to be successful all of the feeder schools must be on the same page when it comes to preparing the young athletes both fundamentally and in terms of x's and o's. Just My Opinion
  17. Not hiding here...Johnson Central has got to pick it up on the defensive side of the ball. Until they do they will continue to strugle. The Golden Eagles have a long layoff before their next game which may include some 6 a.m. practices. I really expect to see a different team take the floor next Friday against Magoffin County.
  18. If we are talking about sports other than basketball...Heath Castle from Johnson Central signed with UK as a pitcher in baseball. He is now with the Yankee organization.
  19. Are JR VanHoose and Todd Tackett (If You Count Tackett) the last two DI players from these regions?
