Thanks for the insight. What are Tighlman's guards like? I think they will have match up problems trying to guard Hill and Jefferson. IMO this game is going to be won with guard play. Holmes is VERY good down low with Nelson, Clark, and Rice. All three will rotate on the McClure kid and try to wear him down. Hill or Henderson will guard the Perry kid. I can tell you one thing though, if Tighlman tries to press the whole night, Holmes will run them out of the gym. They are very good at getting transition buckets off the press. Holmes has seen good big men this year in Kiernan of NCC and Pettigrew of E'Town so I don't see Tighlman's post play creating problems forthe Dawgs.

Couldn't agree anymore. IMO Holmes has the top 3 players in the region in Hill, Rice, and Henderson. Jefferson has flat out done his job this year distributing the ball. As I've said all year, having his leadership and focus on the court would change this Holmes team tremendously and I was right.

What alot of people don't realize is these four starters were all here as soph and Freshman starting. I think one of Holmes biggest advantages is going to be their experience. As Jefferson said in a report "As sophomores we were there to have fun....Now we're back to bring home the hardware." But I have to agree that anyone of Holmes players can take over not only one game but the whole tourney, whether it be Henderson, Rice, Hill, or Jefferson. And like DoggyDawg said, Arrez Henderson (#25) and Greg Rice (#34) will wow people in the pre game warm ups with their dunks.

Bottom line is this, whether you play a zone or man to man against Holmes, they have the athletes to beat it. Man to man, Holmes will kill you with penetration and not many teams have 5 players who can evenly match up with Rice, Hill, Henderson, and Jefferson. They create match up problems all over the court. Sit back in a zone, and Holmes will look for alley oops all day as they did against CCH to start OT. Also as CoachcSu said, they'll kill you on the offensive glass if you sit back in a zone.

Yes it was good to see all the players from both teams still congratulating one another after the game. Jefferson gave every single one of the all region players a hug during the ceremony. And the CCH guys did the same. Class act by both schools. Interesting quote in the enquirer that really stood out to me by Jefferson was: "I can't let this go. But it's not done. We want a state title," Jefferson said. "And I have to say this. I want to apologize for everything people have criticized us for. I apologize. I don't want people thinking of us as a negative. We've been through a lot of adversity. I missed almost the whole season because of my leg (injury). So this trophy right here is so nice to have."

I have to agree with you. Henderson is probably the most all around player on the team on both sides of the ball. Hill is either really hot or really cold, but helps his team out by playing good defense. Hill's only problem is he needs to know when and when not to try to do everything himself. But don't get me wrong, Hill is an outstanding player and leads by example with his leadership.

I'll start first: Holmes: 1)Very athletic and good at attacking the rim and getting points in the paint all night long. Duran Jefferson will slash to the basket and dish it to either Rice, Henderson, or Hill. Great ball handlers all around. Rice and Henderson can throw it down from anywhere around the basket. 2) Not very good with the outside shot. Most teams like to play zone against them which works sometimes but only if you have big kids. Holmes is very athletic so when they see the zone they will try to attack and look for an alley oop, because they have no real outside threat. Also, FT shooting can be poor at times. 3)They run more of a motion offense but once again look more for the drive and dish down low. 4) Defensively, they are very tough. Henderson and Hill are probably their two best defenders but Rice and Jefferson can hold their own too. Rice and Henderson can jump out of the gym and are shot blocking threats. 5) They look to work it down low with a triangle type offense between Jefferson, Rice, and Henderson. Hill can also play down low though and is probably their most all around player at 6'3. 6)Advantage of Holmes against many opponents is how deep their bench runs. Henley can play 8 and not lose a step. After that the bench falls off a little but not much. If Henley wants to press, he'll keep throwing waves of different players at you. Who are the top players to watch from EACH team that will be in the sweet 16? I'll start first: Holmes- Rice, Hill, Henderson, Jefferson South Laurel- Ty Profitt GRC- Tristian Jones, Preston Knowles Not very familiar with any other teams players so the more input, the better. Don't just name random players though. Name players from teams who are actually known statewide and who will be exciting to see. :thumb:

DOn't know much about Oldham but I've seen Scott Co and they're tough. I say Scott Co by anywhere from 12-20

Exactly. Both teams played their tails off so no matter what the outcome was, neither team has anything to be ashamed of b/c win or lose they've both taught eachother lifelong lessons that they'll always remember.

For the record, those of you who don't have Holmes in your top 10 should know that the region championship team (full strength- Hill, Rice, Jefferson, Henderson, Nelson) only lost one game playing together and that was to CCH by 3 points on CCH home floor. Don't be fooled by their record.

Guess so :thumb: It's good that this post hasn't gotten out of control and everyone is showing class toward one another's school. Kudos to you guys. As i've said all year this region would go through CCH and Holmes and neither school disappointed us. Holmes was just finally able to get it done on their home floor, something that CCH had done during the regular season. Biggest difference is Holmes got it done on their home floor when it mattered. Good luck to all of the CCH seniors. You young men have given us Holmes fans fits for the past three years. Nothing to be ashamed of. I know each and every one of those Holmes players respect you more than any team they've probably faced since they've played together. In a way, you guys kind of taught them a lesson that they need to play as a TEAM if they want to accomplish their goals as well. :thumb:

Couldn't agree anymore with your last line. So much talent but so little to show for it. If I'm not mistaken Holmes didn't get a tough draw so we'll see if they can capitalize or not. But once again congrats to CCH on a fine season and to Holmes for getting to represent the 9th. On a side note, all of CCH's wins against Holmes in the past two years came on neutral or home court. Not once did they beat the Dawgs in Covington.

Awesome atmosphere for a high school game tonight in Covington. Congrats to both teams. Covcath played with tremendous heart and kept their heads up the whole game despite being down 12 at one point. So kudos to you guys. As for the game, Holmes just wore the Colonels down in OT. Arrez henderson was an absolute man tonight and he's only a junior! A little selfish play by the Dwags tonight but they got it done when it mattered. I've said all year CCH wouldn't beat Holmes on their home floor and even predicted Holmes winning region after last year, and I was right. Represent the 9th well young men. CCh fans, we'd love to have you all down there helping cheer us on. Without you all tonight the atmosphere wouldn't have been anything like it was. Hopefully a few of you can make it down to Rupp as well.

Holmes wins this one, finally getting it done against CCH. Last time these two met at full strength on Holmes floor, the home team won, so i'll take my chances on the home team this time. Should be a great game. Holmes 65 CCH 61

Highlands played very well tonight but couldn't pull it out. Comgrats to CCH and on to the finals against my Dawgs. CCh looked decent tonight but they must tighten things up b/c Holmes won't miss the same oppurtunities Highlands did.
