Hearing that Mounts, Hensley and Barker are all nursing injuries, and may not play for the Pirates. Any word on whether Kelly is expected to suit up for NCC?

I would almost bet on that matchup being a reality. If it happens it will be a big time atmosphere. Boyle and Belfry have never played to my knowledge. Correct?

@Bench Not that I know of. Food City carries some killer Combination meat for sandwiches though. (As well as the redneck trinity of canned meat, Vienna Sausages, Potted Meat and Treet)

True Dat!! (is that still what the cool kids say?) There have been exceptions, but as a general rule, Belfry shouldn't be ranked very high early in the season. They start slow, and are a work in progress. Coach will focus on doing the little things right and build on it, and hopefully have them peak in November. It is by design. Throw in a bunch of inexperience at key positions, and sometimes they will look awful early on, but will be a lot of fun to watch them develop during the year. It is among the best things about being a Pirate fan. And I agree with your entire post,

It is a great place to watch a game. Welcome to Pond Creek. My advice, eat in Pikeville. There are several good places there. Peking/Hibachi is very good and you can choose between Chinese buffet or Japanese Hibachi (need a reservation for Hibachi). Pig in a Poke is a great bar b que place. Texas Roadhouse is good, but tough to get in on Friday night. Bank 123 in downtown Pikeville is good. And there is 3 or 4 Mexican places. They also have a ton of run of the mill options, like BWW, Applebees, Gattis, Golden Corral, A new Asia buffet (good sushi), etc. And many fast food options. If you wait until you get to Pond Creek, then you have the Steakhouse and Giovannis and fast food. Or you can cross the river and go to Starter's Sports Bar, which has good food, or Smokin Pit Barbecue, which is new but I've heard great things.

Belfry's secondary is young, how good is the NewCath passing game?

I do hope Kelly plays, would like to see him in action.

The Newport Catholic Throroughbreds make the long trek into the mountains of eastern KY Friday night to take on the Pirates of Belfry. CAM Stadium should be rocking for this matchup of perennial powers. Both teams are considered contenders for a title year-in and year-out in their respective classes, and despite the long distance between them, this is a fun and interesting regular season game. Belfry has had the upper hand in the series recently, but you can expect a competitive game that is beneficial to both squads. NewCath is 1-2, and Belfry is 1-1, but both teams tend to "schedule up" and are willing to take a loss or two during the regular season in an effort to test their mettle against bigger and better teams. Hopefully the large 'Bred fan contingent will make the trip and we will have a ballgame on Friday.

Burbage played well for Station, but they were outmanned. Belfry rushed for nearly 500 yds in a nice rebound from last week's loss.

Belfry opens up the half with two quick scores. The second one was a 91 yard option pitch by Ben Bentley. 42-13 Belfry. Bens big brother Cole Bentley will be the starting center for Louisville against Alabama tomorrow.

Overall, very satisfied with the way the Pirates finished out this one. The young Bucs are so green at key positions, mainly the skill positions, and they came out and got took to task by a bigger, and more experienced squad. Huntington jumped on them 14-0 fairly early on, and it was a concern that maybe the good guys in red were going to get the woodshed treatment. Belfry's kids showed a lot of grit, and clawed their way back to cut the lead to 14-9 in the 4th quarter, thanks to several nice defensive series and a "give it time" vanilla offense that chipped away and finally broke one against the Highlanders. The Pirates have a lot to work on, and a long way to go, but they showed me tonight that they have a lot of physical pieces in place, they just need time and reps. More importantly, especially with a young team who dug themselves an early hole, I saw some of the intangibles that I didn't really expect this early on. This group has a fire in their belly. You gotta love that.

Belfry will have a really tough uphill battle in this one. With key injuries, inexperience in the secondary and a HUGE Huntington team, the Pirates will be a heavy underdog, IMO. One observer described HHS's size as "bigger than Belfry was in 2015 and 2016, and talented"
