In the 1st quarter it looked like a rout was going to place but Harlan never gave up and played hard. The Dragons are lacking foot speed all over the field and there is no coaching that can correct that. Due to the few seniors on the team, 3 I think, Harlan should be improving in the next few years. They have some decent middle school teams that should be competitive with other Class A teams in the area in the future.

I'm having a hard time determining which is more embarassing. The ball game itself or watching Big Bear Nation abandon their Cubs at halftime. There was a constant, steady and moving line from the stands to the exit gate.

The Bear defense was a lot better this week for sure.

Lee Co played a very tough opponent last, Powell Valley VA, to a 6-0 OT loss. Harlan just doesn't have the personal that Lee does. It will be interesting to see how they do against their other KY opponents, Middlesboro and Harlan County.

Harlan Co should pull away for 2-3 TD win but it could be closer. The Bear defense looks pretty soft right now.

The KHSAA web site has the 2008 Harlan schedule posted. It lists a 12 game regular season schedule. This must be a mistake or is it??

Doyle C Troutman, age 79, passed away December 30th. Coach Troutman coached many years in Harlan Co as both a head coach and as an assistant. He coached in baseball, football and basketball at both Evarts and Harlan Ind. His coaching days go back into at least the 1960's. One of his basketball teams at Harlan, approx 1980, made it to the 13th Region Finals before falling to Clay Co in a close hard fought game. Coach Troutman was a fierce competitor and a positive influence on the youth who knew him. RIP

I've heard this for quite some time. I haven't been following it really that close but late in the regular season no one else had applied for the job. That could have changed since then, that was several weeks ago.

The Skins put up a great fight in the game and had the oppurtunity to win. This was the final game for Cumberland as they will be consolidating next year. Hazard made enough plays to win and deserves to move on to next week. R.I.P Skins
