Madisonville-North Hopkins/Warren Central Updates
I didn't expect it....However, PH knew that Madisonville would be tough, but he really thought Central would have a small lead right now. There is still time left....The Dragons can still pull this out.

Madisonville-North Hopkins/Warren Central Updates
Pulling for Warren Central. We really wanted to go, however, our Beagle was so afraid of the storm that we had to give her a tranquilizer to calm her down. Now she is in a slumber and can't walk straight. We had to stay home with her....I can't find them on air anywhere, so listening to South Warren on the radio. Thanks for the updates.

Bowing Green 36 Manual 7
In the first qtr, the BGHS offense struck with just over two minutes gone in the game with a TD pass from Sr QB Devin Hayes to Sr WR Nacarius Fant. The PAT was good, and the Purples led 7-0. Manual answered back with a strong drive of their own, and the Crimsons scored on a one yd run. The PAT was good, and the scrimmage was tied 7-all. Then the Purples took over on both sides of the ball. Hayes threw a 77 yd bomb to Hayes, the PAT was kicked, and the Purples led 14-7 to end the first qtr. In the second qtr, it was all BGHS. Hayes hit Fant again, this time from 59 yards. The PAT was good, and BGHS led 21-7. Hayes found himself in a situation where the receivers were covered, so he ran it in from eight yards. The PAT was good again, and the Purples led 28-7. With less than a minute to go in the varsity portion of the scrimmage, Hayes hit Sr RB Blake Pillow with a nice throw to end the scoring for the day. The hold on the PAT was botched, but the holder ran the ball in for the two pt conversion, and the Purples had a good day with a 36-7 win. Next Saturday, the Purples will host Lexington Catholic in The Rafferty's bowl at WKU in the second game of the doubleheader. Sic 'em, Purple!!:ylsuper::thumb:

Ranking Class 5A
1. Bowling Green (much more loaded than last year experience wise! Former Warren East head coach Ben Bruni is new OL coach and will make the OL a formidable unit!) 2. John Hardin (classic game with BGHS last year!) 3. Conner 4. Christian Co 5. Warren Central 6. Cooper 7. South Oldham 8. Franklin Co (needs to learn to play defense) 9. Harlan Co 10. Graves Co 11. Scott 12. Anderson Co 13. Greenwood (new head coach is former BGHS OL coach) 14. Whitley Co 15. Montgomery Co

Ranking Class 5A
Many of Cooper's players were seniors and went both ways last year. However, I hear that they have the program on the right track. Once they don't have to play so many players both ways, they will be a major threat to go all the way. To their credit last year, they were very well conditioned and didn't give up at all against BGHS in the championship game.

Ranking Class 1A
I would love to see another state champ listed at venerable old Rhea Stadium/Barrett Field (the Fenway Park of KY hs football!!:lol2:), but my common sense says Mayfield #1. It is a shame that they can't be in opposite brackets...! I agree with my pal Toothpick on this one!:thumb:

Ranking Class 3A
South Warren is loaded, and it starts with an absolute monster on the DL by the name of Adrian Middleton. I'd start them at #7 and they just might get better as the season goes along. This will be the Spartans' third varsity season, but they will be nobody's pushover.:thumb:

Ranking Class 6A
I'm hoping for improvement from Boone Co this year. Their new head coach was BGHS's superb defensive coordinator for the last several years, Jeff "Big Griff" Griffith. Because of that move, the Purples lose a starter at OLB this year, Owen "Little Griff" Griffith. He was second on a great Purple defense in sacks last year and has outstanding quickness. Little Griff may be finishing his hs career with the Rebels, but he will always be one of my boys! And I will miss swapping skin with both before games. But I hope that they will lead the Rebels back to respectability quickly. I'd put Boone Co just short of the top ten at this point, say 11-12.:thumb: St Xavier v BGHS at Brother Thomas More Stadium on 6 September...a possible matchup of future 6A and 5A champs for 2013!!:eek:Sir Charles will give us fits running the ball like last year at The Big El!! He was very impressive indeed. The Tigers have my vote to reach the mountain top in 6A this year.:thumb:

Kentucky's Top 15 Football Dynasties
I know a doctor here in BG who was a senior starter for Highlands in 1960 (Jim Burt). He played against BGHS stud Dale Lindsey on a Saturday at Western Stadium. Highlands won 26-13. Dr Burt said that the game was in doubt until late in the fourth qtr. BGHS played at Highlands after massive graduation losses and on a Friday night and got their tails kicked 49-7 the following year. Interesting to note that, in 1960, BGHS actually rose one spot to #10 in the UPI Poll after the loss to Highlands! All three classes were lumped together in the polls back then. I very much liked jbwill's take on all of this. He gives respect where it is due, and calls it as he sees it.:thumb: I want to add one more thing. Last season, BGHS started the season with only ten seniors and only four returning starters (just one on defense) on their way to another 5A title. Only three other programs I can think of that can pull that off now, and those are T, H, and X! I'm just glad that the Purples are getting the respect that they deserve!

Bowling Green hires Ben Bruni
Not at all...never too late to meet another member of Purple Nation! No doubt you've seen that gold jersey of mine then. I wore that jersey back in 1976 when we beat Paducah Tilghman for the first time ever! Great place on the track for Mrs PH and me. Plus I have great access to the cheerleaders and the Bleacher Bums...!!:lol2:You're welcome to join us anytime!:thumb:

Hey AP! The site you mentioned was owned by somebody who got my info on the web for me. He has since let it lapse. However, I am Alma Mater's Football Historian, and if you have a question about the Purples' gridiron history, hit me! I don't know everything, but I know more than anybody I've heard of. And if I don't have a ready answer for you, I have plenty of research around my place, and I'll be glad to dive into it and see if I can get you an answer!
