How many times do you get to see two old rivals (50 games or more) play two of the greatest games in the series in the same year and be able to say that your team won both of them? Not only that, but the scores were nearly idendical (26-21 and 25-21)!! And these scores were arrived at by different means (in the first game, the only second half score was a BGHS FG; in this one, all but 14 pts were scored in the second half, and three TDs were scored defensively and by special teams play)! OHS ends their season at 9-3, but two of those losses were at the hands of the Purples. I have had a great time visiting with devils58 and his better half at both games this season. We have both grown from hating each other's schools to having a keen respect and admiration of each, and having pride in this old and intense rivalry. I hope that this is infectious, as this is what high school sports is all about (or should be). I also was lucky enough to tell two of the Red Devil football players to tell their teammates to not hang their heads - they played a super football game and had a great season! After all, I consider myself a goodwill ambassador of Purples Football. It is an attitude that many schools appreciate and a select few do not. But that's okay...that alone makes us winners even if we lose a game! We still trail in the series 38-28-2 that started Armistice Day (Veterans Day) 1932. It is only the third time we swept OHS in a season (1992, 1998, and 2009). Interesting sidenote: we have beaten BOTH OHS and Hopkinsville in the same season nine times since 1932: 1932, 1933, 1935, 1950, 1988, 1994. 1995, 1997, and 2009. With 4:04 left in the first qtr, #99 for OHS scooped up a fumble and ran 15-20 yds for the initial score of the night. #2 booted the PAT, and OHS led 7-0. In the second qtr, SO QB Scooter Hollis threw a 22 yd scoring pass to SR WR Sam Howard. SR K Zach Williams booted the PAT, and the two teams went to the locker room tied at 7-all. In the third qtr, the Red Devils really asserted themselves. With the Purples in possession of the ball deep in OHS territory, #17 intercepted a pass and ran it back long distance for another defensive TD with 9:16 left in the qtr. #2 booted the PAT, and OHS led 14-7. With 2:10 left in the qtr, QB Prince found #10 on a pass play and scored from 32 yards out. #2 knocked through the PAT again, and OHS had what seemed to be an insurmountable 21-7 lead. In the fourth qtr, the Purples got to work on that insurmountable lead. With 9:51 left in the game, Hollis found Howard again on a 29 yd scoring pass. Z. Williams' PAT attempt hit the upright and bounced away, and OHS led 21-13. Then, with 5:59 left to play, Howard set sail on a 70 yd punt return! The pass attempt for a 2pt conversion failed, and OHS still led 21-19. With 2:05 left in the game, SR RB Lavance Anderson ran around right end from three yds out. Again, the pass attempt on the 2pt conversion was no good, but the Purples led for the first time on the night 25-21. L. Anderson put the exclamation point on the comeback with three consecutive sacks of Prince! BGHS's record is now 10-2, and they will travel to the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville for a rematch with Christian Co (8-4) after they disposed of Warren Central 13-7 on the strength of a 95 yd kickoff return last night! It would have really packed 'em in at the Big El for a chance to even the score with the Dragons, but the Purples will play who they have to play and where! I asked the guys coming off the field at the half if they have the heart to win this game and move on in the playoffs, and then said that I think they do! Needless to say, they had the heart for sure tonight! I'm really proud of what the guys did tonight, and equally proud of Joe Prince's charges for being such a great adversary twice in the finest tradition of this old rivalry! And I think that Sam Howard has forever endeared himself with the Purples fans and his teammates, current and those of us (yours truly included) who no longer have eligibility! I can not tell you how proud I am of the Purples!!! OMG, what a game. I really hated to see either team lose.....it was just one of those games! Like I said in another thread....sometimes all it takes is heart! Believe me when I say that this team is ALL heart....A great bunch of young men with a desire to keep going no matter what. I want to say that Owensboro has nothing to hang their heads over. These young men never gave up...great game you all had...be proud! The Purples now need to celebrate and feel proud....Then, Monday, forget about it and think only of the next game for next Friday.

BGHS's last score came with 2:54 left in the third qtr when L.Anderson plowed over from the five. Sam Williams actually booted this PAT and the last PAT I listed above. Man, if the second BGHS/Owensboro game is like the first meeting in the regular season, there won't be too many sane people left from that game!! :lol::lol:

Yep, I saw the error there...somebody reported the wrong score to them!

JR RB Tevin Anderson and the BGHS defense were the show in the first half. T. Anderson scored on a six yd run with 9:35 left in the first qtr. SR K Zach Williams booted the PAT, and BGHS led 7-0. With 5:35 left in the first qtr, T. Anderson found the end zone again, this time from three yds out. Half the distance to the goal line gave the Purples the opportunity to score the 2pt conversion, and they did with SR RB Lavance Anderson bolting over. That's how the first qtr and the first half ended with BGHS leading 15-0. The third qtr saw the Purples take control. L. Anderson scored on a 32 yd run at the 9:31 mark. Z. Williams knocked through the PAT, and BGHS led 22-0. At the 7:16 mark, the Purples tackled the Hopkinsville punter in the end zone for a safety. BGHS now led 24-0. L. Anderson scored his second rushing TD of the quarter with a 28 yd effort with 3:13 left in the third. Z. Williams hit the PAT, and the Purples led 31-0. The Purples scored another TD and PAT. Hopkinsville finally scored on a three yd plunge with 5:52 left in the game, but failed on the 2pt conversion attempt. The Purples move on to host Owensboro next week!

Wrong final score, BF. The final was actually 38-6, as Hopkinsville threw an incomplete pass on the try for the 2pt conversion.

But we agreed on the two major points: Central must beat Greenwood and BGHS must beat Barren Co. Another thing we agree on that hasn't been said by either of us...Grayson Co's weak schedule might finally come into play here! Again, many thanx! :thumb:

Congratulations to the Dragons. They were clearly the better team tonight. As for you Ft Campbell posters, BGHS has a TOUGH time getting a schedule together year in and year out. Some teams flat refuse to play us. Many of our former district rivals don't schedule BGHS anymore once they find out that they don't have to. As for a scheduled game with Ft Campbell, I would not be adverse to that at all. I would get to see some of my brothers in arms, and that would be great. After all, I am a veteran from the USAF, and my legs are gone! Go ahead and ask your soldiers how many times they got help from an A-10...that's the aircraft I used to load tank killing weapons on. From what info I gathered, here are the tie breaker points: BGHS: 23 points currently (6 each for Christian Co and Big Blue, 7 for Owensboro, and 4 for Doss). Grayson Co: 16 points currently (5 each for Hancock Co and Edmonson Co, 3 each for Breckinridge Co and Butler Co). Warren Central: 15 points currently (5 each for Russellville and Apollo, 3 for Nelson Co, and 2 for Barren Co). Next week, BGHS plays at Barren Co and must win to force a three-way tie breaker. Other games that figure into their fate: Boyle Co at Christian Co; Henderson Co at Owensboro; Glasgow at Franklin-Simpson; and Doss at Fairdale. I think that we can only count on Big Blue to help us there. Next week, Greenwood plays at Warren Central. This is a must have game for Central, as Greenwood has 7 wins and would vault the Dragons into the #2 seed. Other games that figure into their fate: Logan Co at Russellville; Nelson Co at Bullitt East; BGHS at Barren Co; and Madisonville at Apollo. A win would knock Barren Co out of the equation with 2 or 3 wins and replace it with Greenwood's 7 points. Next week, Grayson Co has their open date. Other games that figure into their fate: Edmonson Co at Hancock Co (a victory by either of them increases the Cougars' point total by 1); Muhlenberg Co at Breckinridge Co (same situation here); Butler Co at LaRue Co (the Bears would have to win against a superior opponent); and Clinton Co at Wayne Co (same here for Clinton Co). They must sit on their hands while other teams determine who they'll play and where. How many head coaches out there say that non-district games aren't important? From where I sit, they're all important!! As for the guys, I couldn't be more proud of them. How they deal with this unfortunate loss is up to them. I should hope that they'll use it as a learning experience, and a real eye opener that their next loss will have them done for the season. As for Coach Wallace, it took real guts and a supreme belief in the abilities in his players to have scheduled St Xavier and Trinity for what next season will be six years in a row. He had to, because other teams didn't want to play us. In three consecutive championship games, BGHS arguably played the best teams ever at LexCath and CovCath, and the latest in a progression of great teams at Highlands. And in 2007, they had by far the toughest road to the championship game with John Hardin, Owensboro, and then Highlands.

Yep....since 2002 against John Hardin. It is also ended a 7 game skid by the Dragons to BGHS.

You're absolutely right, 'Fire! I didn't have access to the Park City, or I would have been right on it! Many thanx for watching my six! Some coaches or fans don't recognize them as a champion unless they get the top seed out of the district...I'm not one of them. They earned that share!

That's a shame...the Backyard Brawl should have been for all the marbles next week! But I like your head coach...he was certainly more cooperative with me in supplying me information I needed to do a decent preview for the Rafferty's Bowl program than Cox ever was! Looks like Grayson County took some of the wind out of our game with their 21-13 win over the Dragons last night. Even if the three teams tie for the district title with a Central win over BGHS, the Purples should get the one seed on points. However, I know that the Purples want to win it outright, so I know that they'll play their hearts out to win that game and then beat a very subpar Barren County team the following week!
