ColonelMike Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Looks like Grayson County is beginning to silence a few critics...
iron dragon Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Taking nothing away from Grayson, but this was an absolute embarrasment for WC. No way should the Dragons lose to Grayson two years in a row. As I said, take nothing away from the Cougars. They executed well and played head up football. If WC loses to BG next week (who will be a heavy, heavy favorite) then the Dragons will have to beat either Greenwood (who won another 6-A district title tonight and beat WC last year) or win a first round playoff game (at the winner of next weeks Owensboro/Madisonville game) to avoid a losing season. If WC finishes 5-6 it will mean the Dragons would have back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1983-84! :ohbrother:
DragonFire Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I'm tired of making excuses. I've made excuses for two years about the Grayson County game, and I'm tired of it. Time to just accept they're better. They manhandled the Dragons. It's not like Central was powerless to resist, and it was a well fought game, but Grayson won the trenches, and in so doing, won the game.
PurpleHaze Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 That's a shame...the Backyard Brawl should have been for all the marbles next week! But I like your head coach...he was certainly more cooperative with me in supplying me information I needed to do a decent preview for the Rafferty's Bowl program than Cox ever was! He'll lead the Dragons to better days in the future I feel! Thanx for reading this post from the "other" side!
rockmom Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 In my mind, this should silence some who think Grayson County's early success was merely on paper. I know they're not on the level of Bowling Green yet, but surely to goodness there can at least be some talk that they are a good football team...not great yet, but solidly good! They still have a few milestones to get to, but considering where they were only a scant few years ago, things seem to be quietly turning around in Leitchfield! Congratulations Cougars!!!!
woodsrider Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Grayson has come a long way. A few years ago they were one of the worst team in the state.

Grayson will likely play host to Madisonville in the first round of the playoffs and that will be a very winnable game. A win would most likely then send them to Christian County for the second round. Grayson County hasn't won a playoff game since knocking off Franklin County 21-20 in 1982, and in fact have only played four games since that night. Here's hoping the Cougars can break a couple streaks here in a couple weeks.
ColonelMike Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I have no ties whatsoever to Grayson County, and just a couple of years ago an undefeated Grayson County team showed up here to play a so-so South Oldham squad and got hammered... they have been a "paper tiger" in the past...but I've felt all along this year that they were the real deal - not in the Bowling Green / Highlands category, but worthy of a top 15 ranking in 5A... After a respectable showing in a loss to BG and another win over Warren Central, I would hope that the Cougars have earned some respect this season from their skeptics...
