Bowling Green/Lafayette Updates
An interception, a couple of key penalties, and a muffed onside kick enabled Lafayette to tie the game with 0:38 left in the 1st half. However, BGHS got a great kickoff return and worked a very effective two minute offense. They got down to the Lafayette one yard line, and the Generals stopped the Purples with one second left, but got called for a face mask penalty. Tisdale then scored his second rushing TD of the game, and the Purples lead 21-14 at the half.

Warren East 14 South Warren 10
South Warren has come a long way in one year after their first year of varsity ball last year...excellent effort! Hats off to the Spartans for giving Warren East a real dogfight tonight. Give East kudos for coming through when it really counted, as this was in doubt until about less than 1 1/2 minutes left! Offensive Player of the Game: senior RB Khyree Boards, Warren East. Defensive Player of the Game: junior DT Adrian Middleton, South Warren.

Bowling Green 29 Manual 7 (Scrimmage)
Many thanx for the kudos, guys! I'll be sure to pass them on to the staff and the players. It shows how incredibly deep we were last year. I was surprised because we have only one returnee on defense and three on offense. On top of that, we lost 30 seniors and have only ten this year. We also have a streak where we play, in order, Lafayette, St Xavier, Henderson Co, and Owensboro. The Henderson Co game is at Henderson, and the visitor has never won. Also, you can throw out the records in the Owensboro series because they're old WKC opponents (70 games in the series), and emotions run high! After Fall Break, we have our toughest district games at Warren Central, host Greenwood, and end the season with a non-district tilt hosting Lexington Catholic. Lots of worthy teams in the playoffs this year too! Junior RB Blue Tisdale ran nine times for 85 yards and two scores. Junior QB Devin Hayes completed ten of 15 passes for 178 yards and two scores and no pics. Returning AP First Team All State Junior Necarius Fant snagged three passes for 77 yards and a score, and Junior RB Blake Pillow caught three for 57 yards and the other passing score. We open our season next Saturday in the first game of The Rafferty's Bowl at WKU against what should be an improved Allen Co-Scottsville team. Looking forward to continuing my tradition of welcoming our guys on and off the field!

Rank the State Final Teams
We never did want you all to drop....I don't who makes that decision....however, I also don't understand why the decision was made....you all did just fine in 5A. PH and I were sad to hear you all did drop.

Rank the State Final Teams
Whatever.....I just wish H did not drop down....I don't know who would have won, as I am sure you don't either, however, like I said it would have been the game to watch....I do think BG could have pulled it off though......

Is Bowling Green the #2 team in the state?
Many thanx for the well wishes for us and for the Purples, leatherneck...I know you mean it! :thumb:

Well, BF, I guess that is why you are soooo loved....you make me think....I don't like to use the grey matter that much, just ask PH!!!:jump: Anyway, I get it now!!!! :ohbrother:

Rank the State Final Teams
Wow....No one said anything about H.....PH only said, and I quote "The Purples also tied Breathitt County's 2002 record win margin of 52 points and held a team that averaged over 500 yards of total offense per game through 14 games to not much more than 100 yards. The Purples scored 738 points this year, but had only one player to score over 100 points on the season." I think what PH was saying....and what I was going to post, was that we are proud to say that we TIED a record for largest win margin in title game play. And we broke a school record for most pts in a season....yet, only one player had over 100 pts. LOL....don't you start sounding like a "broken record"........PH and the rest of the fans, have a right to be proud of their guys just like H does....... I really hate that we could not play each other this year......what a time for H to drop to 4A!!!! I think that would have been the game that everyone would have wanted to go to....best game in the state!!!

Rank the State Final Teams
1. Trinity 2. Bowling Green 3. Highlands 4. Franklin-Simpson 5. Central 6. Belfry 7. Scott County 8. Cov Holy Cross 9. Anderson County 10. Hazard 11. Mayfield 12. Glasgow I think T does not need explaining!!! WTG T!!! I picked BGHS as number 2 because no one on this list, other than T, could have beaten us. I even had no less than 60 Highlands fans tell us they were very happy they did not have to play us Sat. night. They stayed and watched BGHS play the last game and the H fans were shocked!!! PH and I were sooooo proud of those H fans that can actually admit that BG could have.....I DID NOT SAY WOULD HAVE......beat them!!!! It was really nice to talk to those H fans.....It was a breath of fresh air not worry if I was going to make someone upset by believing in our guys......H is good, but, this year I really think the score would have been close with BG taking the game. That is why I picked BG as 2 and H as 3....... I am also very proud of Big Blue for giving H a great game.....I was really pulling for these guys. What an upset if they had pulled it off!!!! WOW!! But, they did not. A better H team did.....Big Blue has nothing to hang their head over! Bowling Green had more heart than anyone this year....PH and I were VERY fortunate to see different teams play.....and I really did not see the pride or heart that these guys had!!!

I agree with McPapa...this one's right on. The Purples simply have too much heart to have lost to anybody except Trinity with this group. I'd like to mention also that the Highlands win margin over Big Blue was the same as Warren Central's (34-6). And we know what happened to Warren Central in the playoffs against BGHS. The Purples also tied Breathitt County's 2002 record win margin of 52 points and held a team that averaged over 500 yards of total offense per game through 14 games to not much more than 100 yards. The Purples scored 738 points this year, but had only one player to score over 100 points on the season.

Is Bowling Green the #2 team in the state?
How ironic that the 'Birds' 28 pt win was the same win margin as Warren Central's 28 pt win over Big Blue. I'm just saying! Sr QB Scooter Hollis only needed eight completions in nine attempts to pile up 205 yds through the aerial route, while the Purples rumbled for over 330 yds on the ground. It's a good thing that BGHS didn't need its "instant offense" (special teams and defense) in this one! But on a serious and sincere note: congratulations on #21! You all earned it!

2011 KHSAA 5A State Championship: Bowling Green 55 Anderson County 3
I was researching past championship games earlier. Only three teams ever piled up more points than BGHS's 55 last night (two were in the same game): Highlands had 56 against Waggener in 1998, Trinity had 59 against Male's 56 in the same game in 2002. The win margin tied the record set originally by Breathitt County against Corbin (52-0) in 2002. Whew!!!

2011 KHSAA 5A State Championship: Bowling Green 55 Anderson County 3
Many thanx for stopping by, Mean Bird. Your observation and congratulations are greatly appreciated! It was very ironic that both of Big Blue's losses this year were by 28 pts (Warren Central 34-6 in Week One), and your 'Birds fought off a determined bunch of Wildcats. Congratulations on #21 for you all!

2011 KHSAA 5A State Championship: Bowling Green 55 Anderson County 3
We had the two unbeaten seasons during the playoff era. We also had two unbeaten seasons long before those, but they were not perfect seasons because they involved ties. The first came in 1924 (7-0-1) and the second one came in 1935 (8-0-2), which earned the Purples the Western KY Conference championship.

2011 KHSAA 5A State Championship: Bowling Green 55 Anderson County 3
BGHS was unstoppable tonight. Sr RB KJ Cofer and Sr QB Scooter Hollis combined for three scoring plays of 70 yards or more. Cofer scored three touchdowns. The defense was nothing short of ferocious. The Purples set a new school scoring record of 738 points with only one player scoring more than 100 points on the season (yeah, you read that right!). Say what you will about the Greenwood game (who played an excellent game in the playoffs against us), the Purples got better and better throughout the playoffs after that. Watch all the game films you want. Everybody has an opinion. Here's mine: heart can overcome a lot of shortcomings, and the Purples have it to spare! We in Purple Nation acknowledge all of the well wishes from many people throughout the Commonwealth in the relentless drive toward the 5A title this year. Some came from unexpected sources, but they were appreciated nevertheless. Thanx so much...it meant a lot to the guys and no doubt spurred them on to great heights late in the playoffs against some of the strongest teams in the Commonwealth. Congratulations to Anderson County on a fine season this year, and continued success in the future. Congratulations to all of the other state champions in 2011. It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Purple! Uh-oh...I feel a BIG dance coming on...!!! :dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa:dancingpa PS: will somebody get rid of the one I started...I didn't see this one already started. Thanx!

Bowling Green vs. Anderson County Predictions
So many weapons...so much defense...so much experience (30 seniors)...so much coming back (the soph class sees a lot of action). Make no mistake, this is a great team. I've been shocked by the one sided scores against Warren Central and John Hardin the last two weeks. If the Purples still have a full head of steam, it will be decided early. Imagine, 34 points against a very strong John Hardin team in the first quarter! I feel bad for the Bearcats, but I like the superb odds of Alma Mater winning their second state title. Sic 'em, Purple!!!

Purple Pride, I'm with you!! Mrs PH and I hope to hook up with you next week if you like...just look for my aqua and black wheelchair...I'll have a black and gray leather jacket on!

Bowling Green 62 John Hardin 20
The Purples bolted out to a very early 21-0 lead and never looked back. JH turned the ball over five times, and two fumbles were returned for scores. On that scoring point, the Purples are KY high school football's version of the Boston Celtics. You hardly ever see Celtic players putting up impressive individual numbers, but put them together and you blow away the competition. The highest scoring Purple (no lie!) is Sr RB Hunter Neveras with 114 pts! Even the defense has been instant offense, and tonight was no different. I felt bad for the JH players and staff. I know that they have a better team than that. They were much bigger than the Purples. We also broke a jinx tonight...the visiting team had never lost in this series! The final shocked me as much as anybody. It certainly has been a memorable season to date. One more mile to go...

Bowling Green vs. John Hardin Predictions
I say it will be a close game...I think the Purples will win, but, I think it will come down to the last seconds of the game.....maybe our first overtime game of the year?....It will be one of those games where the winner will not be able to be predicted until the game ends. Now, I hope I am wrong because I HATE the anxiety that comes with close games like that. Good luck to both teams, coaches and fans!!!!

Bowling Green vs. John Hardin Predictions
Two quality programs...two quality staffs...tons of talented players. This should once again be a game neither team deserves to lose. The Purples get stronger in the second half, and that will be the difference maker...barely! :thumb:
