All senior students at Rose Hill will be honored, I believe, prior to the game. It will be a nice evening. David Garnes, of course, will be an important part of the ceremony. It will be a special evening. With a really good Fairview team and Coach Rexy, what a great way to spend the evening.:thumb:

The bottom line in this one is Rose Hill played a great 3 quarters but did not match the intensity Hazard came out with to start the 4th quarter cutting the 14 point lead to 10 or so. Then when Jackson picked up the 3rd and 4th fouls and went to the bench(my guess is for 4 minutes in the 4th) Rose Hill could not get into their offense and Hazard seized the moment. Rose Hill only scored, I believe, only 6 in the 4th, not enough. A great showing for RH and the 16th, congrats to Hazard and good luck against UH.

The "yips" are a whole new thread. "Yips" have truly been known to be terminal.:cry: True yips are physical, not mental. They come with age mostly as the small twitch muscles take over. I have seen some sad cases. If you truly have them go see a pro, that is your best bet. Good luck.:thumb:

Do you really think that training what I call "wanna be's" who never really played the game is the answer? I agree that more extensive training is better than nothing. But it seems to me you need to have an inate understanding that comes from truly learning the game early on. I am probably wrong but I think more reasonable compensation might attract the better qualified individuals. If there is a pool to choose from then wouldn't the poor officials be more likely to go by the wayside?? If compensation was reasonable then the "director of officials" could then recruit more qualified individuals directly. Just my thoughts, I am probably out in left field.

Folks, people aren't lined up two dep to become officials. This is a thankless job for those who give the effort. I really appreciate those who take the time, effort and energy to take on this task. Therefore, I try to always give them the benefit of the doubt. I have two solutions: one-coaches must coach and not address the officials in any manner otherwise automatic technicals, two t's and they are out. This would shut them up. OK, this one won't happen. My other solution is to make the pay more lucrative to attract better qualifed personnel, perhaps $100 or more per game. This way the athletic department of the coaches school gets to foot the bill so the coach can then complain all he wants. Otherwise, be thankful for those that are willing.:thumb:

All things being equal, I think it's always best to get the ball on the green as quick as possible and get the ball rolling like a putt. That being said, I see many good players, even pros, who go with some type of wedge all the time. The higher handicap player is probably better off running the ball while the low handicap player can hit the low biting shot. For me, it depends on the situation at the time but I find myself going with a sand wedge more and more.

Bath County did whip RH in the prior meeting and played a great game. In that game, for those who may have forgotten, Jackson was a non factor in the second half. He fouled out well before the third quarter ended. That's unlikely to happen a gain. I really like this Bath county team, Cleamons is great to watch but I like Rose Hill by 7.

No one is giving props to Bath County point guard Clemons. Mr. Clemons controlled this game from the get go. He is one of the quickest players you will see off the dribble. He plays hard and never stops, fun to watch. Congrats to Bath and Coach Hicks on a well deserved win. Rose Hill will get better but needs a dependable third scoring option.

There are lots of great players and my vote would be with Mayo. After that I would go with Umberger. He did an awful lot in his 3 years. He got Ashland to the state finals, was a 3 time AIT MVP and was number 3 in Ashland all time scoring. I'm not sure about any All State honors. He had the best hands I have ever seen, right there with Mike Scott.

If RH stays out of foul trouble they win by 10+. If fouls become an issue it will be a wire job. Never underestimate Coach Cooksey.

Hats off to Raceland, they were without a doubt the best team on the field Friday night. I personally can't understand why Ashland is unable to field a team that should be superior to Raceland, but that just hasn't happened. Something just isn't right at AHS, but I can't put my finger on it. Coach Vanderhoof(a person for whom I have a great deal of respect) and his staff deserve a lot of credit for fielding nothing but solid teams. When a smaller program such as Raceland shows superiority over a larger program the size of Ashland, then give credit where it's due and that's to a coaching staff that has developed a better overall program. In both recent games with Raceland, Ashland's primary problem, among others, has been the unsettled situation with the quarterback situation. Last year if you recall, Drew McDavid was the QB in Mahan's place and was ineffective. This year Thomas' athletic ability was suppressed as the QB. It will be interesting to see if the 'Cats bounce back again. Lots of question marks for AHS and lots of answers for RHS. Good luck to both teams!

I fully agree Shooter. I would have a hard time leaving Jon VanHoose and Rick Hensley off any Russell team.

Played there a couple of times. You will be pleased. I hope the weather's not too bad.

My personal favorite behind ValHalla would be "The Champions" in Lexington.

Played there one time. It's a beautiful old course that was a stiff challenge and I really enjoyed it.

I'm sure I should know what PAT stands for but right now I don't recall. Fill me in. Also, The Traditions is an excellent private course.

BCC is a very nice course. The renovation included 100% new bunkering doubling the square footage, virtually 100% new tees, softening a couple of doglegs, addition of a lake, upgrade of sprinker system and that's about it. BCC is a short course(6300 yards) with trouble on virtually every hole. It is a beautiful old course designed by Willie Park , Jr. who was huge in Brittish golf and may have won a Brittish Open or Amateur, I'm not for sure. It is a fun course that can be a stiff challenge. With all that being said, in opinion(I am a BCC member), it isn't in the same league as ValHalla, which I have had the pleasure of playing 3 or 4 times. Bell, let me know when you would like to come to BCC, maybe we can work something out.

To keep any rumors from running wild, I just spoke to an authortative source and got the word that the ACL injury to the knee is serious enough to end JV's high school career. Really sad for a great kid and his family as well as the Russell faithful. Best wishes to the VanHoose family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was there sitting directly behind one of the goals. I believe Scott Johnson may have been the Ashland player to hit the three. When the final play set up, Zornes was on the far end left side of the court and sprinted toward my end, caught the ball on the dead run and circled up the right side, crossed over to the top of the key and nailed it. I had a great view. One of the best plays to end a game I have ever witnessed. (I must say TZ wasn't very classy after the ball went in though).

Humphrey seems to have Ashlands number right now. I really like Scott and respect him as a coach. He has really proven himself. I haven't seen Clark play but I know they will be tough. I think Ashland will be excited about this game. The crowd, especially the students, should really be primed. If I understand correctly, Ashland is going to retire Brandon Webb's jersey sometime during the evening. It is supposed to be a baseball themed evening from the students. It should be a fun night for basketball. The 'Cats may be ready to pull an upset. Ashland 72-71.

I don't think anyone said one was better than the other. I can only judge by what I have seen and the Ashland students exceeded anything with which I am familiar. I am sure Cov Cath is outstanding-immation is the sincerest form of flattery.
