Forty-two points may be a bit high, but maybe not--Highlands rang up 21 and the Birds were basically a two-man attack (Cecil and Kramer). Male has a lot more weapons to distribute the ball to. The key to this game for Male, IMHO, will be whether the defense can slow the Tiger offense down enough.

This game deserved to be a game of the week probably more than Trinity/Ballard, but PRP had already been in two games of the week vs Male and St X. Hence, second rate C-J coverage on what was one of the better games in the Louisville area last night.

Well, I guess Ballard coach Catlett wasn't trying to deceive anyone when he said they would try to establish the run and stop the run. His Bruins did an admirable job of stopping the run, but they gave up passing plays all night long--to the tune of 451 yards passing and 6 TDs (5 from beyond 30 yards out). Another tough night for the Bruins.

What happened to Anderson's hand? He was wearing a cast on his right (?) hand and wrist.

The Bulldogs are firing on all cylinders going into the big showdown next week against St X. Male was up 35-0 and threatening to score again at the end of the 1st quarter. At half it was 55-7. Reserves took over in the 2nd half. Beaumont had a stellar night, scoring several touchdowns and intercepting a pass on defense. I'll post stats and scoring summary when they become available.

Looks like the Trinity game call and color commentary will have to be transmitted through the use of smoke signals or those blinking signal lights Navy ships use to talk to each other... :lol:

I'm surprised there isn't more discussion about this game. Ballard's the toughest opponent the Rocks will face until the third round of the playoffs.

I can see Ballard making a nuisance of themselves by hanging around Trinity in this game. They came out pretty fired up for Male and after a couple of Bulldog turnovers, Ballard was only down 28-14 at half. I was surprised that Catlett said they would focus on establishing the run and stopping the run. If you focus too much on stopping the run with Trinity, they will make you pay with the long ball. Maybe it was a little disinformation intended to confuse the "enemy".

And Bush accumulated nearly all of those receiving yards by the end of his junior year (he started at QB the last two games of his junior year and his entire senior season).

Then I find it hard to believe they could throw enough money his way to pry him away from Trinity (which itself hired Beatty and moved him and his family from Missouri). If offensive genius Coverdale is content to remain there as a coordinator rather than take a seemingly more lucrative job at the college level, I have to believe some serious compensation is in play.

Is Valdosta a public school?

Based on past experience, I'd rather be lucky in the 2nd game than the first.

I don't remember--not many times in the Redman era (1992-present). It seemed unusual enough when I saw it earlier this year to be noteworthy. There have been times when I thought they should have two safeties and they just kept one. And sometimes that 'safety' plays so close to the line, I would hesitate to call him a safety at all!

I saw Male drop two safeties in another game this season (Seneca, maybe?)

I don't get too excited about X (or Trinity) miscues in the regular season because they have opportunity to correct them before the real season begins. X still has a very potent offense.
