Mayfield is without a doubt the favorite with what they did to LCA last night so I think all the pressure is on them. But don’t count out the Tigers.

I posted this on Facebook last year after we won the 17th state title in school history. it’s that time to update the Beechwood state finals football history for the people who didn’t know this. Beechwood has played in 22 state finals since 1974. They played in their first state final in 1974 with a 14-0 loss to Murray. They have won 17 titles while appearing in 22 finals since 1984 when they won their 1st title. The Tigers defeated Paris 35-26 in 1984 at the old Cardinal Stadium to win the first of 17 titles. LCA is tied with Pikeville for the most opponents with 3 Beechwood has played in the finals. Beechwood is 3-0 vs LCA. They are 2-1 vs Pikeville. Beechwood have played Bardstown, Mayfield, Murray, Harrodsburg, Hazard, and Danville each twice. Beechwood is 2-0 against Bardstown, Harrodsburg, and Hazard. � Beechwood is 1-1 vs Danville and Murray. Mayfield was the only team Beechwood had never defeated in the finals at least once until today! � Beechwood is 1-0 vs Paris, Raceland and Hancock County. But back to this game if the winner of this game wins state they will have earned it. Going through Mayfield or LCA, Beechwood and OC won’t be an easy task. LCA is the best team in 2A but you never can count out Mayfield playing down there in Nov.

22 we are 17-5 in them. We have won 17 titles since 1984. Murray beat us in 1974 in our first state title appearance.

I have a question for OC fans. I think I have already asked this before but I don’t remember but is Atwell the QB from OC related to Travis Atwell the QB from Hancock County in the late 90’s?

How many times have Mayfield and OC played each other?

Weren’t they supposed to be the best team 3 years in a row? How many seniors does LCA have?

I didn’t say you! There are some people who feel that way! I still stand by my comment. ?? When I played in the early 90’s during our dominance all we heard was if Mayfield and Danville was in A we wouldn’t have won all of those titles. Maybe or maybe not but we will never know. Beechwood had a few damn good teams during that time who could play with anyone. We beat some great teams in the finals. We beat 3A power Cov Cath who won state a few times the same year. LCA, Mayfield and OC probably is better than Beechwood this year but until someone knocks them off they are still the team to beat.

Of course not that everyone is going to be on the same page as everyone else. Nobody said the world is against them But in all reality Beechwood doesn’t really get the respect they deserve from across the state. . We heard in the 90’s when we were winning Class A almost every year. We heard it once they moved up to 2a that they wouldn’t win another title. I’m not saying you said any of these things.
