could a mod please put a slash between Central and Harrison County in the thread title to clarify the title...I don't know how to do it.

The season opener for Madison Central and Harrison County has been moved from Friday, Nov. 30 to Thursday, Nov. 29. Harrison County requested the move to avoid a conflict with the Harrison County vs. Lexington Catholic football playoff game, also on Friday night. Madison Central will host the game on Thursday nite.

Outsider, I don't think you heard the post-game radio show that Coach Graham was on, or maybe you just heard the radio show on 1400 WCYN. I didn't hear him on the local radio show, but did when he called in to the Louis Stout Show in Lexington. He was on hold for several minutes, and when he talked, praised Greenup County for their hard play, athleticism and the fact that they were a formidable opponent. Kind of crass of you to call him "classless" in my opinion. Apologies are in order.

I would suspect those bleachers would hold 250 people or so...your typical metal visitor-side bleachers that may have 8-12 rows in height20 yards or so in width...all this is just guesstimation on my part.

Just wondered what your thoughts were on what kind of crowd will show up at the respective third-round playoff games this weekend. At Harrison County, we really don't know what to expect. Not sure what kind of followig Greenup County has. Not sure how many HC fans will show the day after Thanksgiving. We had a pretty good following at Franklin County last weekend, but not sure about this Friday. Tuesday is the last day for students this week, which could be a factor. I think that in a typical week, the build-up within the school building peaks on Friday and a lot of kids will attend. Without that this week, I'm not sure how many kids will come. A lot of folks typically will have "two" Thanksgiving celebrations...one on Thursday, pack up and go to the in-laws for a Saturday Thanksgiving. Just curious...what has been the case with those of you with more experience playing the week of Thanksgiving.

I believe LC beat HC 10-0 at Harrison County sometime in the first half of the regular season, though HC really never threatened to score. HC's starting quarterback did not play in that game though...was injured.

The Breds played much better as a team without all of the distractions. It's a shame that they didn't realize this a long time ago in football and basketball. The young man you are talking about is a senior this year and hasn't played football or basketball since his sophomore season...sounds like you are one to discard or cast off troubled kids...you need to be kinder and gentler.

Very sloppily played game. HC has virtually no passing attack without Isaac under center. The little QB for HC (Moss...about 5-5 in height) played gutty and ran the ball hard, but is by no means a passing QB. Kudos to the HC staff for a fine defensive gameplan and grind it out offensive strategy. Their only hope was to win time of possession decisively and run the clock...problem was they couldn't capitalize on many LC turnovers, dropped passes, poorly thrown passes, penalties, etc.. Perhaps one of the more poorly officiagted games I have seen recently. Both coaches called first half timeouts solely to register their complaints after strange calls went against them at key times. Must have been half a dozen illegal formation calls on the two teams. On one play in he first half, LC was flagged for delay of game and HC was flagged for offside on the same play...offsetting penalties was the call????????? Key situation late in the first half...HC forced a LC punt from around midfield and ball was downed inside the HC 10 yard line. Less than a minute to play and LC was up 7-0. LC used its last two timeouts on HC's first two running plays that gained maybe three yards combined. On third down and 7 from their own nine yard line, with LC out of timeouts and about 40 seconds to play, HC opted to try a halfback pass instead of running the ball, and the clock. Pass was incomplete, stopping the clock. A shanked punt gave LC the ball on the HC 24 yard line. LC scored on a pass play with about 10 seconds remaining to go up 14-0 at halftime. Would have been much nicer to go the locker room down 7-0 rather than 14-0.

It was at Harrison. Danville looks to be down a bit this year. Moved the ball against Harrison at times, but not consistently. Harrison had many more "big plays" than the Ads. In 1's against 1's, Harrison won by at least one TD. Perhaps Danville had a few kids who they are counting on who didn't play(???) I know Harrison County was without a player or two who will make a dramatic impact on their team.

Harrison returns one senior in Brett Franklin. However, he could possibly be joined by one or two other players when the season begins. Julius Talbott and Darius Ray could possibly join the team when the season begins??? The top Juniors returning will be Fonze Custard, Eric Case, Simon Clouse, Jake Jenkins, Ryan Puckett, and John Reitz. Harrison should also have solid contributors from Sophomores Jared Martin and Malcolm Thomas.

Reitz would be a "good" short term solution, but I'm not sure about the long term. It would be nice to have a program implemented that addressed both. It will be interesting to see what happens!!

Lee Kendall has resigned as boy's basketball coach at Harrison Co. He will become the school's new athletic director. No word on potential replacements for him, though it seems that none of his assistant coaches are interested in assuming the head coaching position.

Don't know the answer to this one, but, what are the rules concerning high schoolers playing baseball during the "dead period?" Seems to me that baseball is a summer sport and shouldn't fall under the same constraints as basketball and football, though I know it probably does. ex. -- the same group of guys that just finished the KHSAA baseball season continues to play through the summer, including the "dead period". I assume they can do that, as long as the high school coach doesn't coach them. What about assistant coaches...can they coach kids during the DP? Can the team wear the same uniforms, use the same bats, helmets, catcher's gear, etc., during the DP that they used in the spring HS season? Anybody out there shed any light on the situation?

Harrison Co is the defending 38th district champion, but they lost five seniors who all contributed last year. Have a pretty good group of young players back, though. Pendleton Co. has been hit hard by graduation the last three years, but has a scrappy bunch of kids that play hard. Won't have much size, but should be pretty quick. Deming lost their top two scoreres last year, but return a pretty solid group of young players. Play hard and have some kids who can score. Nicholas Co. may be returning the most of the four district teams, lost a good player late in the year last year (can't remember his name, but a kid who chose to go to a farm machinery show instead of going to a game), but played tough without him anyway. Haven't seen any of them play this summer...don't know how much stock you can place on summer ball anyway. Overall, a very weak district this coming season...probably a good year not to have a "decent" team that could possibly make noise in the post-season in certain years...can't see anybody in the 10th challenging the Royals this coming season.

I must admit, I do not know the make-up of most of the 10th Region teams, but if Harrison County is to be beaten, it had better come tonight. With the number of good young players the Breds have, this could be their "down" year, compared to the next several campaigns. I'm afraid, that GRC may be a bit too experienced and talented for this year's Breds, but I am confident that Coach Whitaker can manufacture a couple of runs. If the pitching and defense are solid, Harrison Co. has a chance. If it becomes a high-scoring game, due either to great hitting or poor defense, then GRC wins, IMO. The heart says HC, the head says maybe not. Can't imagine a scenario where the outcome would be a surprise to me.

Are you sure about him starting for GRC for the past four years? I was under the impression that he didn't play at least one of those years for disciplinary/academic reasons. Just looking for a clarification. Knowles is unquestionably a talented player. Very unselfish player who has the unique ability to be the dominant player on the floor, but who also includes his teammates and makes them better. BUT, he is far from a choirboy as he had a few "problems" along the way off the floor. Had the Cards not won the region this past year, would Coach Humphrey have been criticized for his handling of Mr. Knowles? In retrospect, I think he (Humphrey) did the right thing, as Knowles apparently has seen the light and hopefully will be a real success story...overcoming many obstacles on the road to success. If high schools give up on kids and don't give them second, third, or even fourth chances...who will?

Both Campbell and Harrison are 10th region teams now, though at times it seems like the former 9th region teams have a hard time splitting their allegiance. I guess that northern kentucky conference gives them a hitch in their gitty-up. Has to make it tough when schools can't really be "full fledged" members in either region....scheduleing limitations, travel issues, etc.

didn't think that at all...anybody who knows anything at all knows HC backs down from no one. With Coach Herrington no longer with us, I wouldn't be surprised if several games are canceled this year that would have been played when he was around. He worked during the school day to get "unplayable" fields ready by game time that afternoon...those days are long gone now.

I thought it was interesting today that Mason County was the "visitor" is two of three ways. Due to their bracket placement, they (1.) wore the dark, or "away", jerseys and (2.) they were the "visitors" on the scoreboard. However, the most important aspect of being the "visitor" was NOT adhered to today. (3.) Mason Co. used the "home" bench instead of BB. That may not seem like that big a deal, but it is probably a bigger deal than many think. If MC had used the other bench, and shot at different baskets than they are used to, it may have proven a bit disruptive...at the very least it would have eliminated the PERCEPTION of an advantage to the host school. Mason Co. High School is the "host" of the tournament, not the "home" team when their school plays. I hope this is not perceived as trying to make a mountain of a molehill.

Are college coaches permitted to "chat" with potential recruits right now? I know there are periods of time thru the course of the year that coaches can interact with recruits, and there are times that it is off-limits to do so. Just not clear on when those "times" are. Anybody out there with the facts?

Ky Thorobred you should be banned from bluegrass preps, You're doing nothing but starting rumors on a team that had only one player returning with varsity experience. Is that fair to the coaches and players?? I guarantee you that if we'd had the pre-season #6 best player in the region you wouldn't be mentioning a change in staff at H.C. Get a life and support the kids for committment and hard work!

I don't know what you saw, but the ball went straight down to the floor after #14 knocked it out of his hands. I applaud him for not allowing him to make an uncontested lay-up.

The 10th Region semi-finals are set with Mason Co. and Bishop Brossart playing Saturday at 12 noon and GRC taking on Scott at 3:30. Certainly, you can't overlook anyone in the post-season, but don't you think it would take a monumental upset for Mason and Clark NOT to meet in Sunday afternoon's championship game? Brossart is as good a half court defensive team as you will see in high school basketball, but I just don't think they will be able make it a half court game. Mason County has too many weapons and can consistently hit that mid-range shot. They don't rely on any one or two players to provide the offense. Plus they are athletic and a solid defensive team in their own right. In the second game, Clark has just too much size and athleticism for Scott, don't you think? Knowles will be the best perimeter player on the floor and Scott has no answer for Jones inside. Plus the Bennett (?? I think that's his name ??) kid has been on fire lately from the outside. Scott has tremendous heart, work ethic, desire, etc......that is vital to a winning effort against teams that are similar in ability, but in this game the big talent edge has to go to GRC, I think. Prediction on the two games: Mason Co. 68 Brossart 53 GRC 72 Scott 57 Probably won't be close to what the finals will be, but what the hay?
