Congrats to Scott on advancing in the regionals. Closer score than many thought it would be.

Scott has played well in the absence of Quigley late in the season; but there was no way this was going to be another 30+ point win.

Harrison seemed to give a lot better effort than I thought, win and move on is the name of the game. On a side note Nate Sharp is 8 points a way from the 1000 point club, look forward to a good game on saturaday. Go Eagles.

Hats off to Scott. They hit their free throws down the stretch when it counted. First half foul trouble hurt the Breds. Three starters missed almost all of the second quarter with two fouls. The last two or three minutes of the first half were the difference in the game. With less than a minute to play in the first half, Scott led 24-21. By the time the half ended, Scott was up 32-21. Nice rally by the Breds in the second half...with 30 seconds to play, the Breds were down by 4 and had a chance to come up with a loose ball. A couple of questionable calls hurt as HC couldn't seem to get a marginal call from the referees. Intentional foul on HC was really shaky IMO. Certainly it was a hard foul, but the player wasn't wrapped up and wasn't taken to the floor. #14 for HC did what coaches always teach...if your gonna foul, don't let them make the bucket too. He raked his arm pretty good, but shouldn't have been intentional. Later, a HC player was called for a double dribble by a ref that couldn't possibly see that the ball had been batted loose by a Scott defender, allowing him to restart his dribble. Why have three officials if the only official who CAN"T see the play clearly, is the one who makes the call. Referee's DID NOT cost HC the game, but had those calls gone the other way, it COULD HAVE influenced the game a little. Regardless, Congrats to Scott. They will have a difficult task taking on GRC (don't get defensive you Augusta fans...just trying to be realistic). I don't think Scott has the horses to handle the Cards.

That is all that matters in Cynthia hahaha, I thought it was always baseball season down there, I must say one heck of a place to play, and the McDonalds classic always seems to have good teams in it.

Breds gave a superb effort. They had to go much deeper on the bench than they intended due to sickness (4 of top 8 missed practice time this week due to the flu), plus some costly and questionable fouls. Scott was able to make their run againt the Breds J-V team in the 2nd quarter.

 

I give credit to Scott High for shooting the 3 well in the 2nd quarter when they made their run. Plus they hit their free throws well down the stretch in the 4th quarter. Of course they got to practice free throws a lot in this game, they shot 35 free throws for the game while HC only shot 15. It amazes me that a team that presses full court and traps in the half court like Scott does was only whistled for 5 fouls in the entire game with about 4 minutes left. The refs began to blow the whistle near the end, and HC finally got to shoot a few free throws.

 

The so called intentional foul was the worst call I have ever seen in my many years of watching high shool hoops. The HC player made a smart hard foul. The HC player beat the Scott player to the spot and slapped his arm, making sure there was no 3 point play. It was a good hard clean foul, the type of foul that every coach would applaud. No player hit the floor, both kept their feet on the ground.

 

I am never one to say the referees beat a team, HC mised too many free throws, plus went to pieces in the 2nd quarter. However, Scott High got every break imaginable (calling time out while standing out of bounds after intercepting a pass, the phantom double dribble mentioned on another thread, the horrible call on the so called intentional foul). Scott High is a good team, they did not need any extra help from the striped shirts, but that is what they got. It is hard for any 5 to beat 8. It was obvious the Breds gave it everything they had, and should be proud of themselves. Not doubt this team is the most improved in the region from the beginning of the year to March.

Basketball is officially over, but I'm telling you that H.C. Basketball is about to turn the corner. Depending on who we have coming back next year, we could put the most athletic team on the court in years. Plus, a lot of teams in the region lose several seniors. Mason will be Mason, but everyone else loses several players. I can't wait till next year!!!!

Great effort by the Breds! But too many open shots (especially 3's), foul trouble, and questionable calls doomed the Thorobreds. Although there was a great crowd from Cynthiana that made the trip.
