You must drive like my grandma. There is no way that trip should take 4+ hours. It is only 209 miles from Covington to Bowling Green. Interstate the whole way at 70 mph you should get there is just under 3. I regularlly travel from Owensboro to Blue Ash, OH in less the 3.5 hours. Also from what I can tell with the on going stadium construction, the new facility at WKU is going to be pretty sweet. It would be a very nice venue for the finals.

They already don't in basketball or baseball. Why does being the largest city with most high schools matter.

How are they ranked lower than Cooper?

I think that I like Hopkinsville in this matchup. Owensboro needs to show that they can move the ball. You can't always rely on defense and special teams to get your touchdowns.

As impressed as I was with Owensboro last week against Evansville Reitz, I was equally disappointed with their effort tonight. The Devils were up 14 -0 with over 6:00 left in the 1st quarter. They moved the ball really well on the ground in their opening drive, and got a pick 6 from Yantae Williams. After that the offense was very vanilla and very predictable. Cal Prince was 2 of 9 for 42 yards and 2 Ints. Yorell Shemwell had 183 yards rushing on about 22 carries. Most of which were between the tackles. It very much appeared as if Owensboro was playing not to lose. They appeared very content to run it up the middle, go 3 and out and let the defesne hold them. Catholic blocked a punt to set themselves up with very good field position right before the half, and was able to get their only touchdown of the night. Starting quarterback Evan Walker, left the game with an injury, after (I think) only one series. The 2nd QB used threw a pick 6 on his only series and I never saw him back in the game again. The 3rd QB #4 also named Evan (don't remember last name) came on and looked to be the best of the 3 that we saw tonight. I think that Owensboro Catholic will do very well in 2A, except for the misfortune that they will likely have to meet Ft. Campbell pretty early in the playoffs. So far this year Owensboro's offense has accounted for 13 points, and the defense and special teams have accoutned for 19 points. Yet somehow, they are 2-0. Joe Prince always has the defense playing at a high level, put the offense is virtually non-existant. They have a lot to work on, including kick coverage, and tackling. Everybody just wants to hit, nobody seems willing to wrap a player up and bring them down. Catholic got a lot of yards after contact tonight. Having seem all four local teams at least once, at this point I would say that Daviess Co. is the best team in the city.

I'm really not sure. They have had a lot of the same assistants stay even when the head coach changes. I never been very impressed with the football program. We were pretty good when Michael Hanley was there, but who wouldn't have been. At least with Carlberg you had the feeling that they had gone out and tried to get a coach from a successful program. He didn't really work out. Bob Mantooth and Tony Hopper have great programs in baseball and basketball, there is no reason that the football program couldn't get to that level. I do feel that they might lose some players to Owensboro Catholic or Owensboro. I guess you can't blame a good football player for wanting to go to either. Hopefully Daviess Co. has turned things around. They are too big a school to be so pitiful at football. The new coach seems to have things going in the right direction.

It didn't look good. I'm an Apollo grad and prefer to watch them play, but outside of the Dillard run right before halftime, I didn't see very much to get excited about. Harris Bivin is a beast, but without any help, I'm not sure he'll accomplish much on defense I told my buddies at the game, that I probably be seeing a lot of Owensboro games this year. At least they will be entertaining.

I agree, Harrison is not very good at all. But it seems like not long ago, that Daviess Co. wouldn't have been able to score 42 on a middle school team. I think they are going to have a pretty good season.

I was shocked that Owensboro beat Evansville Reitz.

Millay finished with 185 yards on 13 carries. Lanham added 135 yards on the ground and 190 more yards in the air.

The Panthers only needed one play to score their first TD and they never looked back the rest of the night. Harrison is not very good, but this may be the best that I have seen a Daviess Co. team look. They run the ball really well and throw it well also. Cole Lanham threw for 2 touchdowns and ran in 2 more. Starting running back Jake Bevil, didn't even play. The back up Dylan Millay had 2 rushing touchdowns as well.

The Red Devils put a stop to the defending Indiana 4A champions and their 16 game win streak. I apoligize to Owensboro, I did not give them any chance of staying in this game, considering how good Reitz usually is and all that they lost due to graduation. Weird game and one that Owensboro was lucky to have pulled out. According to WBIO, the Red Devils finished with just 112 total yards of offense, but took advantage of touchdowns by their defense and special teams in oder to pull this one out. Reitz was up 14-6 about 2/3 through the 4th. But Owensboro got a nice punt return and then Kal Prince hit Yantae Williams for a 32 yard TD. The Red Devils stopped Reitz on their next drive, and Yantae Williams returned the punt for the go ahead score. For most of the night Owensboro's offense was non-existant. Reitz was physically superior on both sides of the line. They were huge. Owensboro's defense was outstanding all night. This Red Devils team has speed all over the field. I think the offense will be alright, I don't expect most teams to be that much bigger on the lines as Reitz was.

This type of thing seems like it has gotten very common. What has changed, I don't remember hearing about players dying due to the heat nearly as much in the past. Something has got to be done, to attempt to prevent this from happening in the future.

Reitz is usually pretty tough. Should be a pretty good game, but I expect Reitz will win. I like the other 3 Owensboro area schools to win the rest of the games though.

FWIW, Daviess Co. ought to be pretty good this year.

I'd love to know how they figure that. Nothing against FTH but I don't think it would be to hard to come up with a list of 20 or so teams nationwide that could handle the Bluebirds.
