I remember the 1987class 1-A state semi finals when Pikeville played at Beechwood. The temperature was around zero. The wind coming off the Ohio river was so powerful! The Pikeville sports writer's ballpoint pen literally froze up. Never been to a football game that cold, ever! But the good thing was Pikeville left Beechwood with a 52-28 win.

May be wrong but rain is expected Friday evening, so that goes in Pikeville's favor with their ground and pound offense. Don't think Sayre can run effectively against a stout defense like Pikeville. I know how proficient Sayre is with the pass, but with a wet field, the long pass should be ineffective. That would leave the short route option which the Pikeville D could jump, hopefully with success. Got to go with the Panthers in this one although it won't be an easy task. Pikeville keeps it rolling with this win. Paintsville finally has their QB returning from an early season injury as evidenced with the Middlesboro win. Pikeville's injuries, on the other hand, still have a few good starters out, with a starting LB out for the season. Hopefully, we'll see a couple return in a week or two.

Boyd Co.'s passing game was for real last night. Pikeville had a tough time defending the pass, and QB Holbrook did a great job avoiding the pass rush, especially in the 2nd half. Prior to the game, I felt Boyd Co. was a much better team than last season's version, and they proved it. Kudos to the Lions for playing a very competitive game, and congrats to the Panthers on the win.

I think LCA is more athletic than Raceland and more talented in areas where it counts. Not to say the Rams won't have a shot, because anything can happen on any given football night. No knock on the Rams, just simply outmatched. Eagles win this one,

Campbellsville played Pikeville tough, probably more than anyone in class 1-A in the playoffs last season. They are more than a worthy opponent and were previously unbeaten until KCD handed them their first loss last week; but imo, Hart has more horses and Campbellsville's weaker schedule is not going to help their cause. Got to go with Hart Co. in this one.

Imo, Pikeville's defense will be the difference in this game. However, they'll have to play like they know how for four quarters with improved play calling.
