Hazard and Green County might be an interesting first round matchup at #23 and #25 in the Massey Ratings.

Does anyone know if the Class A tournament will be available online?

Titus Boyd with a big game. 18 points, 6 steal, and 5 deflections. Leek Ateny with 17, Lual Ayiei with 14.

Danville Christian Academy 70 Boyle County 35 at Boyle County. Boyle led 15 - 8 at the end of the first quarter and then DCA tightened up their defense. They held Boyle to 5 in the 2nd quarter while scoring scoring 26.

Based on what I saw from Ashland when they played DCA their strength was more on the offensive end than defensive. They are mature, well coached, and shoot well but I didn’t think their defense was scary good. Lincoln with a score that low is surprising. Jackson has always played a short bench and that can be an advantage at times but if you’re missing someone or you’ve got a player having a subpar game it can really hurt you. It’s on YouTube, I may watch later to see what happened.

I played against them in the dirt bowl league they had in the summer at that time. Art was in the 6-6 range and Don was about 6-2 or so the best I remember. As far as skill goes Don was the best of the bunch.

They aren't KHSAA but I think there are some rules that apply if they play KHSAA schools. They played some KHSAA schools like Lafayette, Garrard County, and Danville. That's why DCA was taking their time to make sure everything was OK.

It was my understanding that they were very careful about making sure he was eligible. They held up on him until they received clearance from the KHSAA. His name is Jeremiah Stiefel. He's 6-4", 185 and a good athlete. Regarding eligibility. I made a list a few days ago of just the players I know of in a handful of schools in the 12th region who've transferred for sports (football and basketball) in the last few years. I counted 25 and that only includes 2 girls and I didn't count the ones who made the move in middle school. That absolutely didn't happen in the past. There were some schools that held back several of their promising 8th graders so they'd be more mature as seniors but the only transfers I was aware of involved a real change of address.

I'd say that Coach Fraley will put together a good game plan if they play again. It's just extremely rare to see that kind of size on the high school level so it's tough to adjust to it. On top of that, they're not just long, they're both mobile for being over 6-10. I lived out of state for a few years and didn't keep up with the 12th region but I can't recall a team having 2 guys that big. Somerset had Jeff Dunagan at 6-8 and Mark Fothergill at 6-7 (he hadn't reached his full height of 6-9 as far as I remember). I'm probably missing someone but they were the biggest pair of players I watched play in the 12th.

DCA held PC to 37 points until a couple of minutes to go when both teams emptied their benches and the Pulaski JVs hit 3-3’s. I’ve not seen any stats yet. The story of the game was DCA’s defense. Pulaski was having trouble getting decent shots.

Tim Couch was quite good in basketball in addition to his accomplishments in football.

After tearing her ACL in the summer and going through rehab Grace Mbugua has been cleared and is back on the court for Danville Christian Academy. They were having a decent season before her return at 8-4 and since then won the 12th region All A tournament. Some of the other girls have been playing well in her absence and with her back on the court they should be even that much better. I hope she can remain injury free and enjoy her senior season.

Where will the 12th region tournament be played this year?

Not only does SOS need to be factored in but sometimes you need to take into account the flow of a game. For example, in DCA's 2 losses they played good opponents evenly right until the end and the other team hit their free throws when DCA had to foul on purpose which made the margin look worse. Against Ashland, DCA was up 1 going into the 4th quarter and Ashland came out and hit a couple of 3's while DCA didn't convert. Ashland is an excellent team and held the ball with no problem so after putting them on the line, which they hit, the final margin was 11. It definitely felt like a closer game than that and a couple of breaks here and there might have come down to the wire. There are other games in which it's pretty obvious one team is 10 or 15 points better and it would take a miracle for the underdog to pull and upset.

Good point. In the Massey Ratings Garrard is 13th in SOS @ #177. Wayne is 64th, DCA 76, PC 87, Rockcastle 97, West J 99, East J 109, Lincoln 111, Mercer 115, Danville 122, Boyle 124, Southwestern 125, Somerset 143 and Garrard 177.

It took him awhile to realize the intensity with which he needs to play. He’s by nature a relaxed and easy going young man so he’s having to learn how to play hard. Plus, he’s not quite got an entire year of American basketball experience.

I wonder how many minutes he actually played in the second half. He sat a lot due to foul trouble. Do the stats reflect the minutes played?

Which of the better teams will potentially be in the Class A tournament?

Danville Christian and Madison Southern @Lincoln for Saturday cancelled.

12th region All A in Somerset cancelled. Rescheduled for Sunday at 2 (girls) and 4 (boys).

Given the weather forecast I’d say we’re looking at Saturday or later for the game.
