The kids are excited about what’s happening and are putting in the work. Conditioning seems to be more of a focus. The program is moving in a good direction.

Moving Fairdale up to 6-A seems like punishing them winning. Especially with X and Manual.

I believe Kade Goodin committed to Ball State.

Trinity played PRP last year and it was ugly. It should have never been scheduled by either administration. A limited number of public schools in Jefferson county can compete with Male Manual and lately Atherton. Certain public schools around the state draw talent each year. Boyle, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Highlands Paducah Tillman and several others with or without private schools in the area. Consistently winning isn’t a private school thing. A public private split is a bad idea. Plus public schools want to play X and Trinity because their fans show up and give a solid boost to the budget.

No one from X wants to shoot the ball. It is maddening.

The color guy is terrible. If the KHSAA is going to limit who can broadcast get some talent in the booth. The color guy is making it hard to actually follow the game.

The Miami Ohio mega camp has a lot of high level academic schools. In my experience schools note and track kids. Patriot league, ivy and good D-3 schools. So some FCS but all great schools that football can help a kid get in.

After beating Ryle, X went 3-3 beating PRP Simon Kenton and Meade County. The effort was solid against Manual. Then the losses to Bowling Green and Ryle were never competitive. They got running clocked in the first half by a team that they beat six weeks earlier. Objectively that doesn’t appear to be a team whose heart was in it. Then it got really weird after the season.

The kid’s Dad moved his practice to Louisville. I doubt that was a football based decision. When a coach looses the locker room it over. See St X 2024.

Coaching develops technique, power, feet and bodies. It’s been absent on the Oline. Several kids developed themselves but overall the player development was lacking. X hasn’t used a sled for about 9 years. That’s not the kids fault. The finesse blocking game showed its worth. I am excited about the changes.

A few years ago there was a push in JCPS to limit or ban booster groups or parent fund raising. One of my kids was in public school and we were involved with fund raising for what she was involved in as she graduated the group was being told to shut it down. Did that become a district wide reality?

The senior class went 5-2 as sophomores. The Oline had limited bodies freshman year. mad tends to happen, kids improved as they aged.

The insistence by some that the seniors at St X have no talent is bovine excrement. Neither of the rising Seniors are Trimble but most high school quarterbacks aren’t. Burmester has a nice arm and very accurate. Reads progressions very well. Baseball player and good athlete. Not a real threat to run every down. Very bright kid. Artman is 6’4” or better and has a rocket arm. Not as accurate. Very fast and outstanding athlete. If the offense needs a dual threat quarterback he has the edge. If he’s not the quarterback he will be on the field somewhere else. Artman struggled at Boyle but the blocking and play selection was abysmal. Burmester played really well but they didn’t put him in until the 4th quarter. Both are great kids and very well liked by their teammates. Neither have let their competition interfere with the team. The rising sophomore came in with alot of fanfare so I would not count him out. I suspect it’s a step up from 1-A to 6-A or 1-A to Boyle. If a transfer is anointed without a competition it won’t sit well with the team. If the transfer is better and earns it the fact that he is transfer won’t be an issue at all. It’s should be an interesting competition. When is this transfer supposed to occur?

The playing field will never be even. But we should try and keep kids in the field. I think the focus should be on how to maximize participation knowing every team won’t have a chance to win state or even compete for it. I strongly believe kids can get a lot out of football regardless of their team’s record. I do think the current system that sends 0-10 or 1-9 teams to the slaughtered in the first round of the playoffs discourages kids from playing the next year. A 6 hour round trip for a guaranteed whooping to end the year can’t help a program. I also think schools that consistently dominate their division should want to move up. What does a team or a kid from never being challenged?

X has 3 Olinemen returning that stand at least 6’6” and weigh 290 or better. (Gavin Carwhile F, Graham Centimole S, and James Campbell J). It was tough for them to contribute from the sideline last year. Charlie Hummel is 6’3” 260 and started all 14 games last year. He was honorable mention all district. That’s quite a bit to work with up front on the O-line. My hope is the new OLine coach works to develop these guys between NOW and next December to play physical football. I am hoping the coach Landis is focused on the last game next December and not the first game in August. How this team looks at the start of the season should not be remotely similar to where they are at the end.

He’s meeting with the team first. That works for me.

There was no lack of talent at X to explain the disparity of the last two playoff losses. X beat Ryle in the regular season in 2024 and lost by 11 to Trinity in the regular season in 2025. Then came the crash in the playoffs both years. Hopefully the new coach will focus on developing all of the players from freshman to senior year and developing more physical play on the line of scrimmage.
