I remember when Tennessee made both changes but I can’t remember why the 2nd change occurred. Did the privates raise a fuss about the multiplier??

If Xavier and Trinity don’t want to schedule CAL surely they could find teams from around the region to play. Use the same blueprint Trinity did. Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Nashville, St. Louis, etc.

I would think with all the growth in industry on that side of the county there would be new subdivisions going up in the area. Thus in theory attracting talent. I know in the past there have been many talented kids that lived in the district that decided to go to school elsewhere too.

Anybody know what type of talent will return for the Christian County Tigers?

I have followed Bowling Green’s program for many many years now. From middle school to high school. They’ve always been the standard I compare Owensboro too. With that being said at the middle school level our games have been really competitive most years. (Not so much at the high school level.) But I did notice a few years ago Owensboro Middle School seemed to really hammer the Purples. The talent level seemed to be really down. Are we now seeing that group of kids as rising Seniors and Juniors? Or has my memory betrayed me and that group of kids kept improving and won some previous titles??

How much playing time did Wynn get last year? Anybody know what his stats ended up being??

I know nothing about this situation. But I could imagine Logan County being historically good, by their programs standards, adds more pressure to the RHS job.

This actually turned out to be a pretty decent class even with the kids that transferred out. Let’s look at what could have been as well as what there actually is. You have Kinney as a top 25/McDonald’s All American level recruit. Jayden Johnson, who left the state then came back, had Power 4 offers once upon a time. Not sure where those stand now though. Gave Weis(Prep School) and Cole Edelen are both headed to WKU. Jeremiah Jackson is headed to a solid mid major in Southern Illinois. Jacob Spurlock has signed with Youngstown State. James Turner seems to be doing well at his Arizona Prep School. I expect him to have D1 options in the spring. I wouldn’t be surprised if DeAaron Watkins opens his recruitment back up.(He’s committed to D2 McKendree.) Watkins has played well against high level competition this year. Jonathan Moss was committed to Chattanooga but recently reopened his recruitment. Demarcus Surratt, who I think is majorly slept on, has signed with Bellarmine. Jake Feldhaus has signed with Belmont. Reese Davidson is yet another Kentuckian headed to play D1 ball for Liberty University. Jackson Stephan, from Henry Clay, has committed to Air Force. Amari Owens has committed to EKU. Malachi Ashford, at George Rogers Clark, is said to have offers from East Tennessee and EKU. Jayden “JJ” Washington, CAL guard, is said to have offers from Eastern Illinois and EKU. Damian Jung, and Keriawn Berry, transferred in from Texas and Indiana respectively. Jung, now at Eastern High, has committed to Northeastern. Berry, now at North Hardin, was committed to Coastal Carolina but has opened his recruitment back up. Armani Byrd, Geu Leek Ateny, & Jaylin Crane may all end up playing at a high level in college as well. KY All Star team should be pretty solid this year if they can convince the kids to participate.

Johnathan Moss never got mentioned in this thread. He was playing some varsity for Daviess County as an 8th grader. Then transferred to Owensboro and started varsity as a freshman. Helping the Red Devils make a run to the Sweet 16. Before transferring back to Daviess County as a Sophomore where he is still currently playing. Madisonville transfer DeAaron Watkins is on most of these lists. He has been at Daviess County the last few seasons as well.

Awesome!! 2x champs and 3x runner ups for the Red Devils. They avenged that 1980 loss to Moore in the Sweet 16 then went on to win it all behind Rod Drake and Dwight Higgs. Thank you for the info.

Seeing lots of information on social media about Owensboro’s Gavin Walker (Running Back) and Aslyan James (Offensive Tackle) playing in this game for the West squad. Congrats to both!

I would say Tee Green starts at running back. With rising junior Makai Kindel and rising freshman Gavin Walker getting some carries. At safety rising Sophomore Khalil Shemwell should get a lot of snaps. He started a few games at safety earlier this year until Roney was ruled eligible. Shemwell may also get some looks at running back. He was explosive in late game situations at Wide Receiver but his dad, Yorel Shemwell, was one of the best running backs in OHS history. His grandfather, Ron Hamilton, was one of the best running backs in Owensboro Catholic history. I also would not be surprised if Shemwell runs in the 11.0 second range in the hundred meters in track this spring. Kid has some wheels!

Owensboro and Bryan Station are the only teams not from Jefferson County to have won the tourney multiple times. Anybody know how many times Owensboro played in the L.I.T?!?!

In the state championship game I was impressed with the James kid, and the Simms kid, on defense.

Do you know what the back up OL players looked like this year?

I guess anything is possible. And I might feel different if it was the last game of the year. But one thing about St. X is regardless of what they lose, or who coaches them, they will have size and 100+ kids on the sideline.

I would think the schedule would be the same as last year. And like last year I wouldn’t be surprised if the Red Devils start off 0-2 with St. X at Rash and then on the road at CAL.

Ty Ashley(LB), Kolby Pullom(DE), Trey Shemwell(CB), Tee Green(Safety), Amare Roney(Safety), Mikai Kindel(OLB), Braden Burke(OLB), & Daveon Hinton(CB) should form a very solid nucleus on defense in 2026.

If my memory is correct he was committed to UK for baseball at one time. He blew up as a football recruit and I guess decided football was the route he wanted to go so he opens his recruitment back up. Jeff Brohm and Louisville then got a verbal commitment from him but Vandy continued to recruit him and he ends up signing there. Good luck to the young man down in Nashville!
