Does Beechwood do any sort of spring football?

Fair enough. I tend to agree it probably won't be him and Beechwood will do better but didn't know if there was a more specific reason.

Sounds eerily similar to how Coach Mueller was at HHS. You didn't have to play ball for him to have an impact on you and it sounds like that is how Coach Rash was as well. For what it is worth, I completely agree with you and VOR that ideally any HC is also in the classroom in some capacity and would hope most coaches would want to be.

When you say it is a must for the candidate to be a teacher, would it be acceptable for them to just be in the building working each day in some capacity? For example, a name that has been thrown out a lot as a candidate is Bert Bathiany; who, out of selfish reasons I hope does not pursue the Beechwood job so that he can be the HHS coach sooner rather than later, is not a teacher. However, I believe that he does work in the building in some capacity at Lex Cath. It also sounds like Hergott and Moser are also not teachers but their names have been thrown out as potential candidates. I ask because I do not get the impression that there is a lot of teacher turnover in the building at Beechwood and if they MUST be a teacher that could limit the coaching pool. I would hope that is not the case and honestly think Beechwood would make a position available for the right guy. Also, very few head coaches I have come across actually teach (maybe a class or two a day). What did Rash teach? Just curious what you think. Another name that I would throw out as a potential applicant could be Joe Wynn from Mason Co.

Wow. I knew enrollment was down but I did not realize just how low; 35 for an entire class is very concerning. Hopefully, new principal Kenny Collopy can drum up some higher numbers.

If that is the case, you can put me in the "surprised he didn't get the job" column as well.

@Breds82 You seem to have a pretty good pulse on all things NCC. With that said, how concerned are you with the enrollment trend at NCC and the lower numbers in the program? Will it continue to trend lower or do you think it will level off? Is it possible that in the not too distant future there could be a problem fielding a competitive team due to numbers? I truly ask not to poke the bear or be critical but because I found it interesting, and quite frankly very surprising that enrollment at CCH and NCC has dropped and I think it is good for NKY football, and KY football, when the "traditional" powers are making noise.

Aside from this past year where the game was semi competitive, hasn't Beechwood pretty much dominated this once rivalry? When was the last time NCC beat the Beechies?

Ah come on @theguru ya gotta play the best to be the best. I'd like to see HHS get back to that mentality! At the very least it prepares you for the playoffs.

If it is week 5, I would love to see them get Freddie D on the schedule. I am not sure where I saw it but I think they have week 5 open.

I wish more football players would wrestle. The skills that make you a good wrestler like having flexible hips, balance, agility, and especially understanding how to use leverage to your advantage translate perfectly to the football field. Those benefits coupled with constantly forcing someone to move the way you want them to against their will or escape an opponent trying to do the same to you is invaluable.

Could be. However, IMO aside from a big gate for both schools, I do not see any upside for either team to play.

5 district games (Cooper, Conner, BC, Dixie, Scott) and 5 non-district games (the ones I listed), right? 10 game schedule with a bye week sprinkled in there or the week before playoffs.

Agreed. Doesn't make sense. Unfortunately for CCH, I think you could argue that it might be harder, or at the very least, no different to win in 4A than 5A. In terms of remaining schedule for HHS, I would expect to see CCH, Campbell Co., Lex Cath, Ryle, and SK. I doubt the Birds make the trip back to BG for the bowl game but I could be wrong.

The Bluebirds enter year 3 of the Bob Sphire era at HHS. The Birds have made some good progress getting the program back to where fans expect it to be but still had an early playoff exit. A very talented roster returns for the 2023 season but the Birds lost lot of leadership and experience with last year's class that will be very difficult to replace. I am really interested to see who steps into the leadership roles! With the exception of Noon and Hosea, I believe that all the offensive starters at the skill positions return for 2023 and the rising classes provide some serious talents as well. However, there are two big holes to fill on the OL with two senior leaders moving on. Defensively is where you will see a lot of question marks for the Birds and opportunities for rising youngsters to make major contributions in 2023. By my count, the Birds lose 8 starters on defense. Birds will also lose record setting kicker Davis Burleigh. I am not sure who, if anyone, is in line to replace Burleigh. Maybe some others can fill us in there. Here is to hoping the Birds take a big step in 2023! Go Birds!

I 100%he has earned the right to call them out. And to be honest I feel like they needed to be called out - a lot of times UK doesn't even look like they want to be on the court. I just never like the practice of calling out teammates in public. I feel like it ultimately does more harm than good.

Big Oscar fan as well; passionate, players incredibly hard, strong ambassador for the program, talented, and by all accounts is a great person. However, I am beginning to think some of the cohesiveness/communication/jelling issues for UK can be traced back to Oscar. For better or worse Oscar alienates himself from his teammates. He is the only player I consistently see doing NIL stuff and he gets a ton of media attention for his religious practices and winning national player of the year last year. Now he is publicly calling out his teammates and asking them to be more like him. Public comments like that are not going to help anything. Started to get a Russel Wilson vibe from him.

Really cool to see these numbers, thanks @Voice of Reason. One thing that really jumped out to me is how young a lot of these QBs are. They are going to be a lot of fun to watch the next couple of years.
