Mayfield at Paducah Tilghman Predictions/Updates
FB Head replied to GBR's topic in KY Football (High School)
It's a shame I can't be at this game!! Hope the game is better then the talk. Most times, it isn't 🤦‍♂️ PT comes in with more recognition as far as recruiting but I will tell you, both teams are very talented. My breakdown: Running game- Mayfield Passing game- Draw (Although, Cartwright has proven he is better than James) O-Line- Paducah D-Line- Paducah LBs- Mayfield DBs- Draw. (This is the first real test for either group) Teams, on paper, look to be pretty even. If that is true, it comes down to 1 thing... COACHING. By leaps and bounds, there is no better team in WKY that adjust better in game than the Cardinals. I'll take the Cardinals until the Tornadoes can prove otherwise. Mayfield 28 Paducah 21 -
Greenwood at Owensboro Catholic Predictions/UpdatesÂ
FB Head replied to DevilMayCare's topic in KY Football (High School)
This is the first "test" for both teams. Greenwood seems to be a team heading in the right direction. I don't know much about them other than they are a physical team. I don't think many people thought they would handle W East so easy. OCath is set to prove they belong in the top tier of 2A. The Aces seem to be dubbed as a finance team with their typical air raid but ran for over 100 yards in each of their first two games. Atwell is coming along very well throwing over 300+ yards per game. In the past, they have had issues matching physical teams. I think OCath wins 28-14 or 35-21 and stamps itself as a contender in 2A. -

BluegrassPreps.com Class 2A Football Rankings 8/21
FB Head replied to TheDeuce's topic in KY Football (High School)
Top 3 can go in any order. Mayfield made mistakes that will be corrected and still best a solid Graves team 42-7. Impressive win by LCA over the 5A favorite. Beechwood also started with a solid win. That will sort itself out in the playoffs. OCath is a clear 4. Don’t understand SV @ 5 considering their loss. Breathitt Co stays in top 10 after being embarrassed by a Belfry team that is “down” due to transfers. -
Game that began late, 9pm, and ended on Sunday, 12:15am. Both teams took advantage of early season mistakes and/or nerves. The Tigers limited Trigg County's standout receiver, Jhaden Vaughn (#4), to two catches for 30 yards. Murray's offense looked completely different from the last couple of season under Coach Bowling. New single caller, Coach Cunningham, looks to take advantage and stretch the field both sideline to sideline and downfield with the likes of Jeremiah Jones (Jr. 6'4") and Zavion Carmon (Sr. 6'6") as they scored on 7 out of 10 possessions.

BluegrassPreps.com 2023 Class 2A Pre-Season Rankings
FB Head replied to TheDeuce's topic in KY Football (High School)
Agree 100%. Just seems like they lost several key leaders and the change of tenure is my reasoning for #3. Also, I do believe they will be there at the end and that is all that matters. -

Mayfield, to me, is a clear #1. Experience and speed EVERYWHERE. LCA with their transfers is a close #2. Boley is a beast! I half a step down is #3 Beechwood. I still see them going back to Kroger as the path in the East is easier than the West. OCath is 4 but have not proven to be playoff worthy in a while. Couple steps down is 5-15 and can go in any order. -
The Mustangs have a lot of questions going into their season. They scaled down their schedule in hope to have more success under Coach Smith. The last couple of seasons have not been kind to McCracken. Their numbers are back up but that does not translate to talent. Their strength should be their run game. Their O-line is big and they are return their leading rusher from last year. Maddox O'Neal (Soph) is a transfer from Mayfield and will start at QB. I've seen this kid grow and has potential to be special. The Cardinals will miss him after Cartwright's last ride. Overall, their offense should not be the issue. Defensively is where they will struggle. Paducah- 49 McCracken- 17

One good off season, a couple of camps, change of coach/system and he's off and running. Very talented and humble kid. This list will only grow from here. Congrats Jeremiah!!

The Aces will be a contender. Atwell had an impressive Sophomore campaign and is only getting better. Outside of OCath, district 2 looks to be the weakest in 2A. I liked the pick up of North Hardin. Tough opponent right before playoffs should give us an idea of where they are. Good luck to the Aces.

What Murray has lacked in the last several years is consistency! Whomever comes in needs to set structure and rebuild the program from the youth level on up. The community was frustrated with the last couple of regimes on several levels. A fresh start is needed. I won't disagree with @Toothpick, Mayfield is Mayfield. But I will also say that Murray has the athletes and the pipeline to compete with them with the right person at the helm. If anyone has given the Cardinals fits (other than Beechwood) it has been Murray. It will be interesting how the new coach takes on the program and whether he is able to get backing from the community.

After two years at the helm in TigerTown, looks like Coach Bowling is taking his knowledge to Jackson, TN.

Understand the comfort factor and it will be interesting to follow Travis at the next level. I do agree he can still develop more in the paint but I have a hard time stating "He’s not very athletic". If I recall, Travis Perry is the #1 rated junior in KY and #10 nationally as a PG per 247Sports. The 4 star rating he currently has in not determined in his "small town" and/or by his coach (dad). I have a hard time believing he is not athletic. 6-2 is about average for a D1 PG although I think he is a better shooter/scorer and will probably transition to that in college. Wish this young man nothing but good fortune at the next level.

2023 McCracken County Mustangs
FB Head replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Football (High School)
PT will be reloading the next four years. It's hard for me to say McCracken will beat them anytime soon. The Mustangs are rebuilding and I've heard coach Smith is getting better numbers to the program. Just not sure how much they will be able to compete this year. Maddox O'Neal is new to the program. I will agree that his ceiling is very high but he is coming off major knee surgery. I don't believe he has taken a varsity snap yet. It will be challenging for the sophomore to win immediately.
