What does Walton-Verona have this year ? I know Krohman, but who are their complementary players ? Also, where did Smithers end up this season for college ?

I'm pretty sure McCormack is 100% all in for playing football in college. He's had some sniffs, D3 fairly local, but not much past that. I think Waddell is 100% opposed to playing football in college; no interest, wants to start his work life. Both great players though, and I'm in agreement, both have deserved multiple offers at this point.

St. Henry will likely be the overall longest team in the 9th. They have several 6'4' to 6'8" size players who will all contribute. Their Senior class is loaded with great size and guard play that is plenty capable. If you are sleeping on the Crusaders, I'd take a closer look. They don't have the one dominant player as in recent years, but each player who will get the bulk of their minutes are capable and will be a very difficult team to beat with that size on the court this season.

I agree with LoudenSwain. Beechwood's SR RB/LB/P/K Mitchell Berger is a Pre-Season Mr. Football candidate who is already racking up the numbers. Unofficially, through 3 games played, : - 52 Carries - 531 Yards - 9 TD - 10.2 YPC - 7 Receptions - 126 Yards - 2 TD - 657 Total Yards - 11 TD - 4-4 PAT - 1-1 FG - 5 Punts at 45 Yard Avg - 2 Fumble Recovery - 1 Forced Fumble - No idea how many total tackles on D. Not only is he a Pre-Season candidate for KY Mr. Football, he will undoubtedly be a Pre-Season candidate for KY Mr. Baseball. Berger is a P/OF who hits .400, and sits 89-92, top 94 on the mound. An Eastern Kentucky University P commit. This kid might just win both awards this year. He's a pretty special athlete and better kid with a great family. Good Luck.

The Tigers are relatively healthy minus some sore arms. Tanner Jackson coming back in two weeks from the knee surgery was huge. Cameron Boyd injured his left thumb in the Region semi-final game against Newport Central in the first inning on a stolen base, sliding into 2nd, caught the thumb on the base on a head first slide. It's a pretty nasty injury; couldn't hardly hold the bat or wear the glove in the field. Hopeful he can continue.

Why was the Dixie Heights v Beechwood game called? I heard it may have to do with a Covington Ordinance that the Meinken lights must be off by 11 pm? Or school the following day and sports can’t start after 10? Either way, suspect planning with all the weather this time of year and graduations, etc if the games must be completed by a certain date. Any thoughts or info?

Beechwood will be much improved this season. But, Holy Cross is the team to beat. After last years run, they don't lose much and with 3 guys focusing only on basketball this summer, they will also be improved. St. Henry has enough parts to make a competitive run. It should be another good All A in the 9th.

Campbell gets an unlucky matchup with Harrison. I’d expect Nicholas in the top to face Harrison in the bottom. Looks like a good Tourney in the 10th.

As evidenced by this game vs the Colonels. When you go into a tournament game with a, “knowing we’re going to win” attitude, and don’t play very well, you’re beat in baseball - every time. Exactly what happened with the Tigers against Pikeville in the All A State Championship earlier this season. You think they’d learn their lesson? Here’s hoping third times the charm. Should be a good 9th Region Tourney this year. I have to say, I don’t much like the Y’Alls / TM Stadium - Meinken split with games. The 9th is a great fit at Y’Alls / TM Stadium. JMO

I'll start by saying, I appreciate all that Highschool coaches do for sports and specifically the game of baseball. Some coaches are teachers, faculty, and some are regular Joes making a small wage for he hours they commit. With that being said, what is it with Coaches and the Pitch Count ? I've watched 3 games in particular this season where a Varsity Coach has had a Varsity pitcher throwing over 100 pitches in a game. These aren't just average pitchers either. The 3 I'm referring to all throw between 86-90 mph consistently. In the 4th week of the KY Varsity season, these guys are throwing pitchers 110, to as much as 120 + pitches per game. The KHSAA sets the following guidelines, but when does common sense come in to the fold with regard to the long term health of kid's arms? Maximum Pitches – 120 76 pitches or more – Three (3) calendar days of rest 51-75 – Two (2) calendar days of rest 26-50 – One (1) calendar day of rest 1-25 – No mandated rest I've also seen kids throw 100 + pitches on day 1 and play SS or CF on day 3. I know it's an issue because I hear fans discussing it at the games while it's happening. Some parents don't seem to mind, but when you factor in that their kids are playing a full season of HS ball then moving straight into summer / travel ball thru August (normally), that's a monumental amount of stress on a kid's arm. I just continue to SMH when I see this happening. I was wondering what others are thinking on this issue ?
