Drew is a fine player, no doubt. And, I'm not necessarily saying he doesn't deserve such recognition. However... Determining an honor such as "Player of The Year" on strike outs alone seems to miss the mark. There are MANY traits and accomplishments that establish a player as great. E.g. offensive production, overall defense, clubhouse leadership, to name a few. Probably one of the more important aspects of such an award being objectivity of the jury.

Stallman was able to strike out the final batter in the last 5 innings. Tigers left runners in scoring position six times.

Nick Jackman threw a complete game and received the All A Classic MVP. #9 played lights-out with numerous key hits and solid defense from the mound and SS. Devin Johnson, Logan Castleman, John Odom and Dylan Doverspike all deservedly recognized with All A Tourney Team honors.

Coach Grey has stated a couple times that he doesn't have an "Ace", per se. Schlinger, Jackman, Burch and Trusty have all pitched very well this season. Noah has been excellent out of the pen. Even Doverspike, when given the opportunity, has thrown well. It's been the next man up and all have stepped up to face the challenge, whomever that might be. This Tiger team is truly rolling like a team right now.

Great outing by Trusty. Noah, the Sophmore, was perfect in relief. Tiger bats have returned with nice timing. The CCH fans were ejected by the plate umpire with one out left in the 7th. Guess they just couldn't hold their tongues as they were badgering the official and the Tigers on deck.

The Tigers will have everyone but Jackman availabe on Wed.

A real pitcher's dual. Schlinger went the distance for the Tigers with 5 K's & 1 BB. Both pitchers gave up just 4 hits and one earned run each 2 errors made the difference.

Is Krump a good coach??? I believe that is the question on the table. Ok, so, considering the Guru's kind reminder of the rules, how do you now measure the success of a coach? I disagree that just because a coach has been in a role for a long time that he, and only he, should decide when it's time to go. We all know high school teachers that exemplify that tenure is not necessarily a measure of success but they were there because they had tenure. But we all knew that teacher wasn't really teaching us anything. I suspect that to be the case whether public or private school. And, after all, we are talking high school. Blindness from school pride bias? Being proud of a progam is one thing and my guess is we all have a soft spot for a one program or another. But allowing that to cloud judgment could be a far worse crime for your kids. So, again, in today's environment, especially in a private school setting, what is the measure of success?

The Tiger bats were alive. Nice defense, as well. Schlinger went 6 IP, 0 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 4 SO Trusty closed the 7th w/ 2 K's G. Smith took the loss for NCC in 3.1 but lead their bats, going 2 for 3, I believe.

You must be using the double-secret BBird schedule since the KHSAA web site does not list a 4/7 game. Fact. Either way, you Antsies are missing my point. I wasn't criticising the team's playing time, just the arrogant comment that when HHS is playing all the others sit.

...and, it looks like they'll take seven days off after that trip to the coast. I'd bet other teams might be playing during that little coffee break.

Oh My, do the bird fans get antsy when someone throws question into their lineup. Not everyone is so willing to hand them the trophy, regardless of their admittedly strong rotation. Why would one assume that HHS is the only team playing through their Spring Break? Aren't most teams?

Is this a similar situation to the All State player list that was published earlier, where only member organizations are eligible to be recognized?

That's a real bummer. I have to believe this also means stat leaders won't be posted state-wide since they won't have stats to use. KHSAA just gave up??? Is this how they've always operated?

I can understand there being a lag in full cooperation among the schools. But, the state not publishing anything to-date says there is more to the story. Have they given in to those who didn't want to report? Or, more importantly, now that the season has officially begun, if the rule has been quashed, shouldn't KHSAA have published something about a change? Maybe they did and I've missed it?

This is very strange. KHSAA website still states that stats and results are required by bylaw 27 but nothing is being reported by the state. The "Statistical Leaders" web page returns a "page not found" error. Last year, it seemed like many teams weren't posting stats consistently. Could KHSAA have decided they didn't want to enforce their own rules on so many schools that they simply dropped the rule without notifying anyone so as to avoid having to deal with the obvious conflicts of opinion?

I have not seen a current roster and am going off of conversations with players. So, its all hearsay. However, I think those who were not positive abt the new staff/program have left the program. That's a loss of talent and a little sad. Are you saying that the parents are a problem because they didn't teach the kids to face adversity or do you sense that parents are a problem for the program? Hoping its not the latter. Nobody wants to go into a season with drama, which, personally, I don't see happening here.

Some have embraced the new spirit and some have decided to take their energy elsewhere. It'll be very interesting to see how, or if, that impacts play on the field. In general, though, most sound excited for the future.

The Tigers have a tough, talented and experienced group of players. Coach Gray and his staff are establishing a new tone in the locker room with high expectations and no BS. They'll fly under the radar because they don't have numerous D1 commits but, as stated in other threads, that doesn't guarantee success. They hit hard, have speed, and have talent on the mound. Can't wait to see them play under the new lights.

People change jobs for myriad reasons. As mentioned above, sometimes its simply because an offer was too good to refuse and thats not a dig on the existing system. BB seems to be working awfully hard, in this and other posts, to fluff this into much more than it likely is. Starting to sound like he's got a personal agenda Beechwood is a tough environment for any staff as the parents expect a lot, as is the case with several other local districts. That is exactly why people want to get into the system. As for the baseball staff, I believe the JV & frosh coaches are selected by the varsity coach. So, not unusual for this type of transition. I agree that turnover sucks but, I think its unfair to start the rumor mill like BB seems to want to do. Whomever takes over that program is certainly inheriting three upcoming years loaded with talent.

Neither. Just curious. Saw some calls in a big game recently that were suspect, yet consistent among themselves. (I.e. balls for Team A, strikes for Team B). Not saying this was intentional, but we're all human and subject to temptation. Balls thrown over the middle of the plate, just below the batter's belt, called ball for Team A. Very poor calls, regardless of whether temptation was involved. Not going to names names/teams because I won't take anything away from the players who all played hard and to the best of their ability. I do believe the outcome of the game was impacted, though. Heck, I'm not even sure this official was an alum from the school, just seemed so imbalanced behind the plate. People from the benefiting team seemed just as miffed at the calls but, hey, they were getting the good end of the stick, so, no complaints.

Does KHSAA have rules regarding umpire staff officiating games for their alma mater?
