Cobe and AC will be the regional favorite going into December and we will have to see how injuries and break out players effect things by February. We saw last year that defense was the main reason South was able to make the run they did. Good defense forces a team to need multiple options to score. Look for Devin Young from South to pick things up. 6'5" swing with a soft touch from the three line. Saw him put up 42 last year at the Battle of the Bridges AAU tournament. He has been playing with Louisville Lightening this summer which should provide him so experience against strong competition. If he can continue to increase his quickness he will be a player schools will need to start looking at, if they are not already. Joe Griffin will also be a player to watch. He is quick to the rim, has good vertical to get his pull up 15 footer off easily and his three accuracy keeps him dangerous from outside that defense can not sluff off to guard against the drive. Owen was hands down favorite last year and the best team but things did not work out it will be fun to see which team comes together to give AC a run for their money

How did South Oldham and Drew Zaubi fair?

Charlie Cochran was at the Bolus Camp showing him being from Collins. At 6'5" if that stands he will be a good inside presence for Collins

are the youth league fields over by the middle school?

We are still pretty new to KY but from all I have heard last years South Oldham was the most successful in their brief history. They went 29-6 avenging two loses in the Regions - Owen County and Anderson County and splitting with Oldham County. Mae it to the Elite 8 before having a terrible shooting night. I think they set records for the number of three point shots made and ended up over 75% on FT as a team. No real superstars just a good overall team that played good defense to go along with Bouvet, Bray, Young, Griffin, Fields, Snook and Williams three point shots.

Losing Gillis will hurt AC and need to see Penny carry the team when the pressure is focused on stopping him to see how he can get the rest of the team involved. Owen lost a lot and you cannot replace Carson but without Dunaway and the shooting of McDonald I think they may be more athletic as a team this year. Saw them the last week of summer and they looked athletic and quick. Made some mistakes but it is summer. Trimble, Gallatin, Grant and Carroll Counties will need work to get competitive. Spencer and Wiliamstown should be better. The SIZE of SK is going to be a challenge for everyone in the region if the two big kids keep getting better.

South Returns 2 starters - Joe Griffin and Devin Young. They also return Dylan Hoover who was their 7th man. Aaron Franklin has been their leading 3 shooter this summer with David Beyerle holding down the middle but having a nice outside shot. They need some of the younger players to help with the shooting and depth. Cooper Cantrell will be returning to basketball this year and will help at the point guard. As always South will be good outside shooters and play defense.

Good players and scorers both. I would pay attention to Jalen Henry at North Oldham. Very quick and athletic to get to the paint. He has shooters on the wing to keep him singled up. He needs to work on his shooting. Joe Griffin at South is a very good well rounded player who plays very good defense and has been running the offense this summer. Gets to the rim well and has a very good pull up jumper of he drive. He will be better as the 2 once Cantrell takes over the PG job. Devin Young from South is another player to watch. 6'5" swing with a very nice stroke who will pick up a lot of the 3 shooting. I think Anderson, Simon Kenton, Owen County and North Oldham could win their districts with Williamstown, Collins, OC or South chances to get to the Region.

1980 Ft Campbell Falcons. Having won titles the two previous years and beating Mayfield in their district they lose to a Corbin team that they beat the previous year 26-0. They were ranked third in the state by Litkinhous. Ended the run for he Falcons and Coach Marshall Patterson that had started back in 1976. They would lose to Mayfield in 81 in the district and started a rough stretch until they came back strong in the mid 2000s

From what I saw this summer: Simon Kenton, Anderson County, Owen County and North Oldham look like strong contenders for the district titles with Collins, Oldham Co, South Oldham, Williamstown and maybe Eminence chances to get to the Regional Tournament. The 29th looks like the deepest district with North, South and OC looking to make a run. A lot depends on what transfers occur before start of the school year.

Drew is definitely increasing his strength and speed this off season. He is a motivated young man who will get the most out of his talent. Looking forward to seeing if the supporting cast allows him to show what he is capable of this year

The leadership aspect of the game is something South will need to replace with the graduation of Williams. Best players are not always the best leaders and you cannot always teach them to play that role. Having that leader on the court is under valued by a lot of coaches these days.

On another thread someone had mentioned that Collins was getting a transfer from Seneca that should improve their team. I think the other players around Wilson will need to make some improvements to get better results. The only other scorer they had last year Carlton graduated. Carlton/Wilson had 50% of the points against South last year I a 73-60 loss. Wilson was a nice player to watch just needs some support to push GC now that all the Owen County team as graduated.

Which Seneca player? Cochran or Leach?

South Oldham and Oldham County scrimmaged today with South coming out on top by three. South lead by Aaron Franklin and Joe Griffin.

South Oldham split Wednesday - dropping the first to St X. Led the entire game until the last three or so minutes - size and bulk of St X took its toll. Beat Collins in the night cap. Aaron Franklin and Joe Griffin led South in scoring. St X also beat Oldham County the same way they did South and OC beat Collins. South beat Bullitt Central tonight by around 40 with Franklin leading the way with threes.

To me that is a sad statement on the state of sports in this country where the parents income influences playing time for their kids and getting wins supersedes the idea of developing young men and women of character. School administrators should support their teachers and coaches and not allow finances and transfers to influence what is the last pure amateur athletics. Communities should support their local team win or lose.

Coach Saban is all about the process of the program and all the extra play especially in basketball force high school coaches to have to reset the kids each year to get back to the process of their programs. Football is fortunate that it will always be a sport requiring a higher level of "team" than others. The high school coach needs to be the primary supporter in the loop - they know more about the character, academics, and the off the field/court issues the student athlete may be dealing with. Most AAU/travel baseball/7 on 7 coaches do not have this depth of knowledge to provide to the college programs interested in the athlete. Yeah for all high school coaches - they make a difference- I know mine did.

I agree with Bruin for the most part. You have to establish your program and processes as a head coach and get buy in from all aspects of the program starting with the players and then working out to the alumni and parents. You also have to understand your personnel and the situation you are coming into to adapt to what you have available as you make the transition. While not "sexy" the variations of the read option either through the flex or pistol or even the old wishbone is a very good option if you are smaller and quicker than you are big. Look at Georgia Tech and the Academies and the success they have had and Oregon was a run option first with a throw read. I am sure Joe will make the best of the situation if he is given the chance to do things the way he sees fit.

Bad news for North but I am sure he will be fun to watch next year at Trinity. IS that AAU team playing anywhere close to Louisville the remainder of the season? Nike or Adidas team? The quickness of the Henry kid to penetrate and kick to the shooters will keep North a threat in the Region even without the prodigy. South should get some help at Point with a plyer returning to the team after a year off. Played point when Grant Williams was injured in 2014/15 season.

I am not familiar enough the understand the transfer part of 5309's comment. The whole transfer stuff is pretty crazy and coming from a 6A football program community in Alabama we never saw this much movement between schools. I understand that the 8th might not have a superstar filled region but it seems that some have proven that with buy in to a program and great defense you can go pretty far with a good team. I know that North kids play together with the Louisville Suns and OC with the Futures. South does not seem to follow that thought pattern and I am not sure if other 8th schools have an AAU program they utilize to jump start the next season.

I know for Collins Jacob Feltner can be a good three shooter given the time. He and Perdue play for HLB AAU that made it to the semi-finals of the 16U State last weekend. I think Pittman from Anderson plays for that team as well. Looking at rosters it seems Simon Kenton was a pretty young team last year.

I only saw him Penny play twice and he was held in check and frustrated by South Oldham playing a triangle and 2 against him in the Regional finals. With that I believe that Devin Young from South Oldham, 6'4" swing who is long and a very smooth shooter, will draw some attention over the next few years and may deserve some consideration. He also plays for the Louisville Lightning AAU team.

I have seen a lot of info and push for Anderson County for next year. What does everyone think about the rest especially the 29th District. I think North Oldham will be a team to keep an eye on with very little graduating last year. If the young 8th grader stays around they will be even stronger. Heard a rumor he may be heading to a private basketball school. South is returning two starters and 2 others that played a lot of minutes and will need some of the JV players to step up and fill in the gaps with point guard being their number one need. OC is always a strong program but lost a lot to graduation.
