Mallory Holbrook is leading the team in scoring, 17 ppg right now. She is a great shooter. Jayln Jackson is a great ball handler and drives and slashes great. Both are juniors. Kylie Koeninger and Tamara Wells contribute a ton also to scoring and defense. Our best rebounders. Tamara is a senior but Kylie on a freshman. The team is young but the future looks bright! By the end of the season Coach Menefee will have them playing great and ready to make a strong post season run!

Somebody needs to help Bullit East figure out what word “seeding” means. Wouldn’t want to be in that lower bracket. Although I guess it’s what our whole state does to teams every year for the biggest tournament each season

I would rather have a coach who cares a little too much for the players and winning than a coach that doesn’t care much. Unfortunately in girls basketball there are a bunch of those.

I agree with RAP it seems like a bigger deal to just hear about it and also like you’ve mentioned it’s very confusing. Can anyone else add perspective? Mya was getting frustrated by Harrison’s defense. Were either player chirping at the refs? What about the coaches? Did the altercation look more like a fight? Pushing or shoving?

What was probably grounds for a technical might’ve turned into an ejection because the refs had had enough of her attitude and complaining?

Oh my. Are sure Meredith didn’t deserve it? I’ve heard she’s pretty obnoxious on the court.

Yes - so do you recall how they did that? Did they play her man and one particular player shut her down or did they faceguard her? Or just played zone and she couldn’t hit shots?

Mya Meredith with 7? What happened with her in that game? Foul trouble? Double team?

It’s highly unlikely Brossart will challenge the top 3-4 teams in the region. GRC, Campbell, and Scott are too strong this year.

Male is a very good team. They seem to be strong in every needed position. Good shooters, strong inside, good PG. #10 seems too low from what I’ve seen with them. They are probably more like a top 5 team. Teams that aren’t strong inside will struggle against them and that’s most girls basketball teams.

What are coaches looking for whey they vote for this? Stats Team placing well/high at state Overall talent, best overall player College choice (does going to UK or UL help?) High recruitment or national rank Had a good game when we played them Locally best player (vote in region to promote your region) Is there any guidance given to coaches for this award? Maybe a coach could answer this question? Is NKy at a disadvantage because we don’t have the media coverage Lexington, Louisville or the Mountain Regions have?

Teams that lose a lot of scoring are always hard to gauge. I think Campbell will be solid. Losing Taylor hurts but the team is still good. But my original point or question still stands, why was CC booted from the KY vs OH scrimmage? I remember Coach Menefee thinking it was great and wanting to go back

Campbell was there last year. Team should be as good as some of the teams there this year. Why were the Lady Camels not invited back? Should be a top team in the 10th.

Making outlandish statements about her does not help her. It only makes her look desperate and illogical. Last year she was third team 9th region. She was one of five underclassmen given that honor. In addition to being equal to those returning players there were SEVEN other underclassmen, returning players to the 9th region. If Mya was still in the 9th region she wouldn’t even be considered one of the best in the 9th! Let alone the whole state of Kentucky?!?!? Have you watched any high level players around the state? Playing for OTP at her age would not have had you be able to see them. So either you haven’t seen many good basketball players or you have serious blinders on. We have already established that her AAU experience didn’t qualify her for “the best player in the 10th region”. If that’s the case, it is crazy to think it qualifies her for “one of the best players in Kentucky”. And putting up 17 ppg and 8 rpg for a team that plays small schools definitely doesn’t mean anything. Or did those stats qualify her to be the best player in the 9th last year who “never got the recognition she deserved”? Even comparing Mya to Lexi Held would be embarrassing

Agree that Mya is good. Makes Scott a tough team this year. She didn’t dominate the 9th last year but if she dominates the 10th this year I would move her closer to the top for sure. GRC is unbelievably balanced so their top stats players won’t look as “dominating” as players on teams with less balance. But like you said she has the 10th this year and summer ball to show her talent off. I hope she does well! When I heard she was coming to Scott I thought it was great, great for the 10th and great for competition. She’s a great player.

Your talking like a parent? First at Run for Roses OTP won the Freshman Showtime division Gold bracket. Freshman Showtime was the LOWER freshman division. OTP won the gold bracket which was the LOWEST bracket play. OTP LOST in pool play to get there. So this great team played in the lowest possible division. Of which was freshman, so Mya played her age, not up. And your wondering why she wasn’t noticed? And the Roses tourney doesn’t even include EYBL teams, where the best freshman players are playing up on older teams. If you want Mya to get recognition you think she deserves then she needs to play against bigger fish in the summer and she needs to show it against the 10th this year. Getting some low level D1 schools to offer at that age is not that uncommon and certainly doesn’t mean being ranked above girls with offers just as good. Harrison is going to UT Martin and Igo has a lot of D1 offers, and got them at the same age as Mya. You must not know anything about these girls in the 10th, I think you will find out they are better than the low level teams and competition you’ve seen so far. Last year Campbell beat Newport like 80-25. Mya scored most the points but was no where near the best player on the court. And was only effective because JV girls played against her. If the varsity had stayed in she would have done nothing. To get recognition you have to show it against the better girls. Scoring 30 against Bellevue means very little in girls basketball.

I saw her play this summer and I believe she’s very good. It’s possible she’s nearer to the top but she just hasn’t played against top region teams yet. It’s probably not accurate to say “she doesn’t get the recognition she deserves” because most region 10 people haven’t seen her much. She’s the only sophomore on the list I have so she will get plenty of recognition eventually. Also, have you seen the top players in the region play? If so how? When? To say she’s better than a potential Miss Basketball winner and other players that play on high level AAU teams with lots of college offers seems naive?

I haven’t seen the Cats Pause rankings. So I don’t know them. I copied the team list from another BGPer.

Bracken County I think it’s pretty good, very close to what I had in early August. The region is GRCs to lose, but Campbell and Scott have enough talent to pull the upsets. Only school I missed on was Bourbon County. I’d slide them in at #10 if I redid the rankings.
