Good drill today for the end of June workouts. Kids enjoyed it!

The timing is awful. BUT... often, these late openings create an opportunity for a young assistant that wants to be a head coach. Tough for those guys with no experience to get a head coaching job, January through April. June is a whole new ballgame. Tough jobs = opportunity to build, create solutions, and truly learn to teach the game. Best of luck to Jackson County and whoever is fortunate to be their next head football coach!

I like JJ Reynolds alot at QB. Believe he will progress pretty well and do a good job for the Panthers. Well-coached young teams in a tradition-rich programs will grow by leaps & bounds in a season. By October, Pikeville will have a pretty good football team and very much be in the conversation to win it all. On a side note, Coach McNamee is underrated. He has some advantages(some of which he helped to create), but he also has alot to navigate, and it is his hometown. Chris knows how to make things go at Pikeville. His consistency & success over the long haul are beyond impressive.

First time I saw a Team Issue football, we were doing a QB Camp at Pikeville. Coach McNamee had them. We switched over at Mercer. They are becoming a popular football in KY. They are same company as Big Game which does most of the SEC, Big Ten.... UK, UGA, Alabama, Tennessee, etc.

Both Bourbon & Anderson were good in 86 & 87. 1987, we (Mercer) started the season w/ wins over Harrodsburg & Franklin Co. We were feeling pretty good about ourselves. My Dad scouted the Bourbon - Anderson game. We had just beat Garrard and we’re getting ready to watch the video. My Dad walks in, slams the rolled up program on the table and says, “You can’t be either one of them!” Both of them beat us. Danville won our district and the state title. The 1987 Admirals are still one of the best football teams I have ever seen.

Coach Perry and I go back to 1986, Mercer vs. Anderson, when we were both assistants. Although we(Mercer) were pretty good both years, we never could block that Split 4 and those Bearcats. Anderson was very good those two years. Extremely physical. The old Bearcats speak very highly of Coach Perry. One of those Linebackers, Rick Boggs, has a son on our team this fall. Sophomore LB/TE, Coleman, who will be a good one. Jerry is a wonderful man and football coach. Those kids are beyond blessed to have him. Go Bulldogs!

David would tell everyone that I named my youngest son after him... "Trosper David" Buchanan. I would tease him about that single "Trosper" eyebrow that covered both eyes. Today we lost a guy that loved kids and made KY HS Football much better. Very sad, but absolutely a life well lived and worthy of much celebration. David Trosper's impact on others will live on for a long, long time. My youngest son is a student assistant at the University of Kentucky and is pursuing a career as a college football coach. That name combo & legacy will pack an extra punch in memory of Coach David Trosper.
