  1. I score for a team in Fayette Co. We have been doing the GameChanger-Maxpreps thing for about 4-5 years now so when the word came from the KHSAA last year that that was what was required we were already doing everything to be in compliance. Throughout the year, in talking with other scorekeepers, most were not even aware of the new requirements. The participation rate was horrible. In addition to that the KHSAA attempted to lay out a bunch of rules for the scorekeepers. We were not supposed to make any changes to the schedules or rosters. That was not practical at the high school level because during the regular season both schedules and rosters are pretty fluid. We complied with what we could but continued to do what we had to as far as rosters and schedules and we managed to complete the season with all games uploaded to KHSAA via Maxpreps. When I got the info from KHSAA this year for the requirements there was no mention of full stats being required for this year. The only requirement this year was that all pitch counts must be tracked via GameChanger at all levels. So Varsity, JV, and Freshman. You are unlikely to see full stats on the KHSAA site. Some schools may post stats to MaxPreps, and if a school you follow uses gamechanger you might be able to get stats and follow games through them by becoming a fan of the team via the gamechanger app. Our booster club was kind enough to pay the GameChanger bill so that all people who "become a fan" of our team in the app can follow the games live. If you would like to see the rules for this year they are here
  2. Fayette County schools have a person positioned at the front doors who sign in visitors and direct them to where they need to go. These positions are usually staffed by parent volunteers and are unpaid .
  3. ***Update*** Seems I was wrong about $10k being the minimum you can sign a player for. The Reds have signed their 7th,9th and 10th round picks (all college Sr's) for $5000 each. There's the money savings i was talking about. Those 3 signings saved a total of $550k of pool money for the Reds. That puts the Reds at around $150k over on there pool at the moment. Still have 1 more Sr. from the 8th round to make that up. The Mets made an additional signing yesterday of their 6th round pick at slot value, so no savings. They are currently in the hole on pool money by $58k
  4. Just looking at the players the Mets drafted in rounds 1-10 I would be surprised if they would be able to free up enough money to sign Plank for the kind of money he is allegedly asking for. The article states that he turned down 3rd round money which would be somewhere in $500-800k range which means the Mets would have to sign the players in rounds 1-10 for less than slot value to free up that money. The Mets drafted 11 players rounds 1-10. Of those 11 only 1 was a college senior. Most teams draft college seniors in the 1st 10 rounds because they can pay the minimum bonus because the player has no negotiating leverage. The one senior they drafted in round 8 has already signed for $10k which is the minumum on a slot value of $175 and change saving them $165ish k. The rest of their 1-10 round picks are all college underclassmen (they drafted no HS players rounds 1-10) and thus have more leverage. They have signed their 5th round pick at slot so no savings, Their 7th round pick signed under slot but only by $12.5k. They also signed their 9th round pick but he signed above slot value by $236k. That wipes out all the savings they had accumulated and actually puts them in the hole. They can only go over their pool by 5% because after 5% they incur some pretty major penalties including financial penalties and loss of future draft picks. If you would like to follow the signings for the 1st 10 rounds, you can find them here. 2

  6. there are no assigned slot values after the 10th round but I believe that if they give a bonus above $100,000 after that point that it gets taken out of their pool money that they use to sign the 1st 10 rounds. Less than $100,000 doesn't count against their pool. I doubt that McGee would have been drafted that high if their were not some assurances that he was going to sign because I believe that they would basically lose the ability to spend whatever the slot value of his pick was from their pool if he does not sign.
  7. Tates Creeks Jaren Shelby was named 2016 Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year. He joins his brother John T Shelby III and Trevor Gott as Commodores who have won this award. USA TODAY HSS on Twitter: "Gatorade Kentucky Baseball POY: Jaren Shelby https://t.co/cGqOFxm9mk @Jumungi_Soriano @tatescrbaseball @UKBaseball"
  8. Brother of John, Son of John T who played for the Dodgers and Orioles winning a World Series with both. He will be joining another of his brothers, JaVon, at UK next year assuming neither of them are drafted this summer.
  9. Tates Creeks Jaren Shelby is having himself quite the spring break trip in Destin Fla. racking up 5 dingers in the past 2 days over 3 games. 2 in the game on Monday, 1 in the morning game on Tuesday and then 2 more in the nitecap. Senior pitcher Grant Deaton also threw a no-hitter in the Monday game racking up 14 k's in the process Tates Creek is back in action tonight at 7pm for game 4
  10. Tates Creek hosted their all comers meet last night and Kristina Leggas from Lafayette broke the State Pole Vault record at 12' 4" I believe that she is just a junior, but her jump bested the old mark of 12' 2" . She out jumped all of the girls and all but 2 of the boys. Jaron Brooks took a break from high jumping last night and posted a 50'6" triple jump. That ranks as #4 all time in the state of Ky and makes him the current #1 in the US in triple jump. Great night for the meet, a lot of the Lexington schools seem to be playing it cagey early in the season. Didn't really get to see all of the best athletes in their best events or any real throwdowns in the relays as its early in the season but a good meet none the less. full results here Tates Creek All-Comers - Meet Results
  11. Not every school chooses to participate in indoor track. The same can be said for other sports like bowling, swimming and diving, bass fishing, archery just to name a few, but it doesn't lessen the accomplishments of the athletes and schools who did participate. Tates Creek hasn't traditionally competed during the indoor track season but this year they decided to commit fully to indoor and the athletes were really motivated to working for ending the season at the state meet. As far as the facility is concerned, its not ideal, but it was a level playing field. Everyone there pretty much knew what they were getting in to, but just having the facility available on a week to week basis for meets is a tremendous benefit to the teams and athletes who choose to use it. We made the trip to Mason Co. twice this year and found them to be gracious hosts and the meets were well run. The only problem I see going forward would be how crowded it can get in there. Comparing last year to this year, the state meet seems to be growing, and if it grows much more they may need to make some adjustments to scheduling or going to qualifying times of some sort. We had a great (and successful) trip to the state meet this year and hopefully we'll be back for next years state meet.
  12. The pole vault competition for the state meet took place last night (2/28) in Shelbyville. I don't have complete results as they haven't been published yet but I can tell you that Tates Creek won the girls 3A and then went 1-2 in boys 3A. A 14' jump won it on the boys side. That means both Tates Creek vaulters have been over 14' this year and they are tied for the state lead in the pole vault. Thats 10 points in hand for the girls and 18 for the boys before they get started in Mason Co. on Saturday. oops I misspoke, they evidently published the pole vault results as I was typing so here they are. 13. First off, let me apologize for using the wrong name for the meet in the title. It was the UK high School Invite, not the Wildcat Classic, which was a couple of weeks ago. Second, what a great day it was at Nutter yesterday. UK once again put on a great meet and the athletes really responded with some great performances. I won't even attempt to list them but there were 250 national gold level elite performances, 443 Silver Elite, and 791 Bronze elite. There were numerous national top 10 marks set and our athletes from Kentucky didn't let all of the out of state competitors take home all the hardware. Our Kentucky kids showed they were more than ready to compete on a national level with the best in the country. Congrats to all of the athletes who competed yesterday!!!
  14. The Wildcat Classic will be this Saturday (Feb 20) at UK's indoor track. This is Ky's premier indoor High School meet with athletes from 20 states attending. You can check here to see if your favorite athlete is competing and the complete event schedule. UPDATED: UK HS Invitational Accepted List & Schedule You may notice that most athletes are not listed by school but rather track clubs. There are some odd rules regarding track events in some states. They have rules restricting their schools from competing against schools that aren't sanctioned by their own state thus the track clubs. Many of Fayette Countys athletes are competing as Fayette County track club but mileage varies from state to state and county to county. It will be a good opportunity for the Ky athletes to see how they stack up against some of the best in the nation as there are multiple top nationally ranked High School athletes scheduled to compete. Its not your ordinary "show up and run" meets, as everyone had to submit times and marks and they only took the top entrants in each event. Should be a good show if you're looking for some track and field action and you're close to Lexington. The milesplit site will be doing live results if you can't make it down in person.
  15. Tates Creeks former coach (and player) to be inducted into the KHSAA hall of fame. The induction ceremony will be March 19th.
  16. Tates Creeks Jaren Shelby will join his brother JaVon at UK next year.
  17. I have no idea of the condition of the young man currently but I can tell you what I saw at the game. He went down early in the first quarter while he was on offense, stayed down for a few minutes and then left the field under his own power albeit with a slight limp. He stayed out, I believe the rest of that offensive series. The young man that replaced him ran the ball effectively. He was looked at briefly by the trainers on the sidelines but I don't think he returned on their offensive series. On the their next defensive series he reentered the game on defense. Within the first couple of plays he was down again. This second time he went down he was not involved in the play. He was helped from the field this time and taken to the bench. His leg was elevated on the bench and an ice bag was placed under his ankle on the back side. He remained there on the bench for the remainder of the half. After half time when they returned to the field, he did not take part in warm ups and was limping heavily. For the people that think he was removed from the game to rest for playoffs, I think you are right, there was no reason to risk further injury. I have seen some others suggest that he may not have been hurt, but he was obviously hurting and would not been effective had he reentered the game. As far as his status for future games, I have no idea. His backups ran the ball well against Tates Creek, Maybe his absence on defense was actually more of a factor.

  20. Not sure if Lakes or Holbrook is #1 . I suspect its a 1A, 1B situation. They ae both very capable. In case you haven't heard Madison Central wins 8-2. Hukill started for Henry Clay. Lakes goes the distance for Madison Central. It was close through 2. Henry Clay got on the board 1st with a 2 run HR by Cameron Lord in the 3rd. Madison Central answered right back in the bottom of the 3rd with 6. They tacked on 2 more in the 4th. Madison Central has a very nice team and could make some noise in the State Tourney. They really didn't get any favors in the draw but they do have a deep pitching staff. Lakes went 7 today so that means he will not be able to pitch on Monday so I would assume Holbrook gets the ball against Collins.
  21. As far as pitching goes, Madison Central will have everyone available. Lakes pitched 5 on Monday and they split the last 2 innings between 4 guys. Holbrook threw 4 on Wednesday, Kelsey came in in relief and threw the last 3. Per pitching rules all will be available for the Saturday final. As for Henry Clay, they used McGeorge, who is their #1 Thursday for 7 innings against LCA so he is done on the mound for the regionals. They threw a bunch of inexperienced guys Monday against Model but I doubt they would use them vs Central in the finals. I'm not exactly sure who their #2 is but I heard them saying possibly Hukill for the finals. I haven't seen him pitch and dont have any stats for them. As far as playing on their home field, that never really hurts so I would give them a slight advantage there, but I'm not sure that will be enough to carry them to the state tourney.
  22. Jaron hit the 47' 9" on his 2nd jump. To my knowledge, no one else in the state had been over 47' this year but him. The way the triple jump and long jump events are structured, all the athletes jump 3 times. After everyone has 3 jumps in, the top guys get 3 more jumps. Defending triple jump state champ Robbie Lofton was sitting in 2nd place but between the first three jumps and the finals I believe he ran in a relay race and you can see that his last 3 jumps were not really near his 46' 2nd place jump. Jaren chose to save his legs for the long jump which took place after the triple, but kept an eye on the triple in case he needed to jump there.
  23. If you have ever played for Dom at Owen Co., Lexington Catholic, or Tates Creek, or you just want to stop by and wish him a happy retirement, there will be a retirement celebration before Saturdays (5/16) game vs Owen Co. at Tates Creek high school. Trying to get as many former players of his to show up as possible. Admission is free. He has no idea this is happening so come and surprise your former coach
  24. The Kentucky Relays were held at UK yesterday. What a beautiful day for a track meet. The Kentucky Relays, for those who don't know, is a combined college and high school meet co-hosted by UK track and field and Tates Creek High School. Its a great opportunity for the high school kids to meet and mingle with the college athletes and get a little exposure to college coaches and the atmosphere of a college meet. With the beautiful weather the high school athletes had a great opportunity to showcase their talents and there were 11 performances that reached the national elite level. HS Girls One Mile Run 5:10.02 Mckenzie Pfeifer McAuley High School Shot Put 37-5.25 Halee Hudson Scott County HS Boys 100 Meter Dash 10.78 William Allen Paul Dunbar 100 Meter Dash 10.79 DeQuan Robinson Henry Clay 4x200 Meter Relay 1:27.08 Henry Clay 4x400 Meter Relay 3:21.46 Henry Clay 4x800 Meter Relay 7:57.83 Paul Dunbar High Jump 6-8 Tequan Claitt Bryan Station High Jump 6-10 Jaron Brooks Henry Clay One Mile Run 4:18.20 Ben Young Tates Creek Shot Put 53-7 Landon Young Lafayette One thing to note. Ben Young of Tates Creek put in that 4:18 mile less than 24 hours after running a 4:14 in The Kentucky Dream Mile in Louisville the night before. Bryan Station won the girls title and Tates Creek took home the boys trophy. Congratulations to all the high school athletes for great performances and a very entertaining day at the track. full results can be found here. Kentucky Relays
