Yes. The last two years he has played for Owensboro-Daviess Co Base Ruth and they won the state championship both years and runner-up in the Regional both years. You are right.....the pitching is solid throughout this region, and.like you I am biased. Ohio County's 1-2-3 punch is Griffin (6-2), Johnson (6-2), and Gillim (5-2). The Gillim kid is a freshman lefty and in the low to mid 80's already.....he's tough....the best young player in the region by far. Johnson, a.senior has also been solid on the hil as anyone. Really don't know much about Meades pitching....but they hit and have been tough all year. Its going to be fun to watch, and I like the underdog role for Ohio Co. Whoever wins this thing has their work cut out for them. No doubt.

The stats favor Apollo and Meade.....both ranked in Top 20.....but the fact remains that Daviess Co is the defending champs......and polls, rankings, and stats....while excellent indicators, they cannot predict fully the game. There are many other variables and circumstances that make baseball extremely unpredictable at times.....especially in a single elimination tournament.

The ERA mostly comes from runners he walked....and then scored when he was relieved.....still his runs. A few earned runs from base hits off of him. For example, against North Bullitt, he was relieved with the bases loaded.....they all scored and were charged to him even though he was relieved on the mound...which is correct. He put em on base and they are his. Got beat 5-2 and 4 of the runs were charged to him. I have seen many pitchers throw that well and get the loss. Like I said, the stats are posted, and they do add up. On average, yes...2k and 1 walk, but that's only an average....if walks come in multiples....most often earned runs follow....and thus ERA without being hit much.

Ohio Co definitely did not hit....but they are 21-10 and hot except for the district tournament game. I do look for them to be very ready for the regional tournament. Always much respect for teams in this region...tough, tough, and talented Whoever Ohio Co draws...Apollo, Meade, or Grayson...I expect an excellent ballgame and battle. I like Ohio Co's chances against any of those tough opponents....especially in Game 1.

Should be an exciting regional tournament here in the 3rd Region. Here is a quick rundown of the teams that made it..... Apollo.....District winner over Daviess Co in extra innings....29-8 record Meade Co..District winner over Hancock Co...25-5 record. Grayson Co..District winner over Whitesville Trinity....23-11 record Muhlenberg Co..District winner over Ohio Co...17-19 record Daviess Co. 22-12 record and defending 3rd Region Champions Whitesville Trinity...17-15 record and a very solid team overall Ohio County...21-10 record with strong pitching and defense The draw is this weekend and it starts Monday,May 25 at Edmondson Co High School. Not a typo at all....averages 2K per inning. His ERA is around 2.50. The .088 is the opposing hitters batting average against him. He hash"t thrown any complete games....has had some control issues...27 walks. His losses were to North Bullitt and Riverdale Baptist ((Maryland). Sounds like some excellent talent in Greenup Co....

Excellent question. Ohio Co is actually very talented with 4 seniors who have signed to play college baseball....WKU, KWC, Brescia, and Berea. They won 18 games last year and are 21-9 this year heading into the tournament. The competition is in the very tough 3rd Region with 6 teams who have won over 20 games this year. The Gillim kid is just one of those rare kids that come along with once in awhile with excelleent skills at am young age. He is a straight-up prospect.....a no-doubt D-1 prospect or better....and he is really a good kid and student. We like him here for sure.

The current best of the Class of 2018.......that play varsity Let me start with Blaine Gillim from Ohio Co. Bats and Hits--Left. The numbers don't lie on this kid....Hitting .359 in 78 AB with 9 doubles, 2 triples, and 27 RBI. His On-base percentage is .458 and slugging percentage is .525. That's not all....Gillim also pitches. At 5-2 in 26.2 innings, he has destroyed opposing hitters...with 53 strikeouts. The opposition has a batting average of .088. The fastball is low 80"s consistent and can get to 84-85. Thee curve ball is hard and sharp. Other pitches are in the developing stage. Oh, by the way, he also flashes the leather having made only 2 errors at the varsity level in three years. And he has decent speed on the bases. He is a five tool player....don't believe me, come take a look

Just saw the video....pretty clear. I think its ridiculous, however, that the young man has been arrested and criminal charges filed against him. The prosecutor jumped on that TV time...typical. It is what it is....a baseball incident that should be handled by the schools and coaches....from within. For the authorities to go after the Elkins kid and try to ruin him is wrong. .

We play varsity first and then a 5 inning jv after. The freshman have a totally separate schedule. Its a lot of baseball, and a ton of time no matter how you slice it. Baseball isn't for the feint of heart....that is certain. Those coaches and players sacrifice a great deal for little recognition, consideration, or support in many school systems.

I guessed as much, but trash-talking shouldn't warrant those penalties.....sounds like the umpires could or might have been able to head off the confrontaton when the "trash-talking" started. But they obviously were hard of hearing. Pike could have pointed it out to them....but that may or may not have happened. I still can't agree with the sanctions....but I am certain there. Are more details missing from their canned statement.

After reading, it isn't exactly clear why Lawrence Co is being sanctioned. From the article, Pike instigated the altercation and had additional players from the dugout onto the field. What exactly did Lawrence Co do wrong....didn't instigate, didn't have additional players involved in separate altercations.....and how did they leave their position while on offense (at the plate and on the bases) For that they get the same punishment except for the petty 200 bucks and an obvious ejection of the offending Pikeville player. Lawrence Co has to forfeit a game and be in probation for the rest of the year....really? Their player gets jumped and none of their other players got involved other than standing around evidently.....hmmm Given the facts stated in the article based on the umpires and investigation, I disagree with the sanctions against Lawrence Co's team. More I would agree with the previous post..."yawn""....it all sounds a bit overblown and dramatic considering what happened.

On senior day, Ohio Co pummelled Webster Co 14-5 in Hartford, Ky at Bill Leach Field. Led by senior pitcher, Andrew Dorris, the Eagles left no doubt in this one. Dorris worked 3.2 innings andd picked up the win for the hot Ohio County Eagless (17-9). Seniors, Kiah Gledhill, Zach Johnson, Jake Griffin, and Jonathan Calloway all had an excellent game at the plate, mound, and in the field. Some of the highlights include: 1. Jake Griffin"s grand slam homer....his third home run of the year. WKU will soon have the privilege of working with this young man...hard-worker with tremendous potential on the mound. 2. Kiah Gledhill's three hits, stolen base....as usual an excellent performance from one of the hardest working players in the state. KWC is lucky to have snagged this young man. 3. Zach Johnson's perfect relief, three hits....Brescia University is gonna love this kid...great hands and plus arm, speed, and power. 4. Jonathan Calloway's first appearance ever....stolen base as a pinch runner, and hard hit fielders choice, and I think he scored a run also....excellent effort....speed. Yes....it was a day of celebration for Ohio Co Baseball as they played their final game at Bill Leach field. Next week is then final week of play before tournament time....three away games at Madisonville-North Hoptins, Allen Co-Scottsville, and Dawson Springs. In the district tournament, the Eagles will play the winner of Muhlenberg Co and McLean Co. They earned the #1 seed and first-round bye going 3-1 in district play losing only to McLean Co. Ohio Co will be looking to win the district for the first time since 2009. While guaranteed a spot in the regional, these Eagles play like they have something to prove beyond just the district. In the regional tournament, they are going to be tough to handle....they do like to battle. Stay hot Eagles!!

Thanks....they are pretty good, and with some late season improvement, they should make a run at the 3rd Region. Always a tough road to get deep in the tournament as you know.

Congratulations to Hancock Co....a team that hash"t got the best record but can obviously compete. A dangerous team that is coached well and is young
